Rating: Summary: Johanna Lindsey is Back and Different Review: I have been an avid fan of Ms. Lindsey for years. I have each and every one of her books and am always anxiously awaiting the next one. I had been very disappointed with her last few books and was not expecting much from this new one. Boy, was I wrong! I loved this book. The characters, particularly the secondary ones, were endearing, and the protagonists were lovely. I like this new and different perspective from Johanna Lindsey. The main characters did not tear each other apart with words, but fell in love talking! Though I would have liked to see more passion, I was not disappointed with the passion in the book and I found myself seduced by the growing love between Sabrina and Duncan. All in all, I'd say that this was Lindsey's best novel of her last 3. I reccommend it wholeheartedly!
Rating: Summary: spent money on the hardback Review: sigh. Having enjoyed Johanna Lindsey's books for a long time, I was excited to see the Heir come out. I have noticed, like a few reviewers before me, that he latest book have lacked the flair that her earlier books have had. I am actually a bit depressed to spent the money on the hardback version, which I rarely do with books unless I know the author well. I found it to be a sweet story, but it just didn't keep my interest that well. It is all right if you are looking for a sweet story about two friends falling in love (more like it happens in real life, which is great in real life, but that isn't why I read romance novels....), this is for you. If you are looking for the sensual passion found in Ms. Lindsey's earlier works, you will, more likely than not, be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: There is something in "the air" Review: OK, bad pun. I liked this book to a degree, but I felt a strange distance to it--been feeling that a lot with several of my favorite authors. It's like there's a wall between me and the characters--a writer friend says it's because there's too much telling of the story and not showing it. I think I agree with that. I felt like I was just an outside observer as opposed to one of the characters.
Rating: Summary: Goodie but not Oldie Review: I will agree that this is not classic Johanna Lindsey, but when has she ever stayed the same? Her style, characters, everything is constantly changing. That is one of the reasons she is so good. The Heir has friends falling in love, not something anyone has ever done well. I think these two work as a couple. I also liked that she concetrated more on the humor than suspense or minor characters. Johanna will always be the queen of romance.
Rating: Summary: A delightful escape! Review: "The Heir," by Johanna Lindsey, is an enjoyable and lighthearted romance due to the witty interplay between the cast. Though the story line remains inside sub-genre guidelines, the enchanting characters, both main and secondary, turn the novel into a pleasurable reading experience. The rapid dueling dialogue between Duncan and Sabrina is simply enchanting while Ophelia's efforts as a matchmaker adds a delightful amusing element to the novel. What I found so enjoyable about the book was that even though it was predictable in its conclusion the journey to get there was a delightful escape in the romance reading experience.
Rating: Summary: Not so great Review: I only gave the book three stars because Lindsey is the author. It was a significant dissapointment to see a book of such low calibur come from such a phenominal author. Johanna seems to have veered away from the style of writing that has made her so popular. The character's were fleshed out well enough but there was no real spark between them. Certain parts of the book were good and I really enjoyed the secondary characters. I put the book down one day two weeks ago to go get some tea. Yesterday I realized I hadnt picked it up since.
Rating: Summary: The Heir Review: This book was much better than the Joining--although I feel it falls short of Ms. Lindsey's usual pizzaz. Her last three books have been a little disappointing. It's hard for me to see where where the two characters fall in love. There just doesn't seem to be any chemistry. I'm still waiting for Jeremy's story, and of course the other Anderson brothers.
Rating: Summary: Average Review: Johanna Lindsey is my favorite author, but I was disappointed in this book. I thought the 2 main characters were lacking in passion and there was no real excitement in their romance. I feel Sabrina would have been better paired off with Rafe. The kidnapping made no real sense. I did enjoy Sabrina's character, especially when she got mad and the 2 grandfathers, also the aunts were funny. I hope the next book is up the Lindseys usual standards.
Rating: Summary: Boy falls in love with girl next door Review: Reading this book in only two nights, I would have to say that this book is very refreshing. Duncan comes to a new home and feeling very pressured he makes a friend with the girl next door. Without even realizing it he falls in love with Sabrina. She ofcourse, falls head over heals in love with him almost at the beginning but... she doesn't think that someone as handsome as he is could possibly be interested in her for more than a friendship. They have a very nice relationship as friends. But everyone realized how he never wants her to leave his side. And boy does that start some rumors! Once he realizes that he cares more for her then friendship they can't seem to break prior commitments to be together. This book makes you realize that there is more to a relationship then physical beauty. Although he finds her beautiful, her personality is what connected them. It was a book that left you with a good feeling about yourself, no matter what you look like... as long as you are a good person at heart, anything is possible. Even true love. This book is so great because it isn't so far fetched in fantasy land that you almost feel like you are there. That this could have happened to you. It is a great read! I couldn't wait to get back to reading it the second night to finish it. The Grandfathers were hillerious! And I hope that JL does a spin off story with Raphael. He was really a neat man in this story!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful journey of happily ever after- 4 1/2 star read Review: Having not a read a Lindsey in awhile I was totally enchanted with this book set in 19th century England. Although it may appear to be a Regency period, the only reference to a monarchy was the Queen so one could surmise this was more a Victorian period piece. But that didn't matter. What I found so enjoyable about the book was that even though it was predictable in its conclusion the journey to get there was a delightful escape in the romance reading experience. Maybe not with the angst/intrique of some of her Mallory books, yet the heroine in this book was one of the most delightfully portrayed heroines in a long time for this sub genre'. Sabrina is whitty, knows her place in the great scheme of things with society but is able to help not only the hero-Duncan MacTavish, but interacts wonderfully with some of the other characters who hopefully we will see in future books: Mavis and Lord Locke, to name but a few. The hero, although wonderfully noble, takes a backseat to this heroine. Yet, it is thru his friendship with her he is able to see his way toward a future much more hopeful than he finds when he first arrives admist betrayals by those who claim to love him. Sabrina's silly banter with both Duncan and Locke is delivered as a unique counterpoint to the friendly and not so friendly banter of both Duncan's Scottish and English Grandfather's. Add to this the lesser developed banter of arguements by Sabrina's aunts and it makes for a delightfully fun romp. To counter the goodness of Sabrina Ms. Lindsey has created a wonderfull selfcentered nasty creature in Ophelia Reid who finally gets her due but not without hurting innocents along the way. I for one was thrilled when both Mavis and Sabrina had at her, this kind of retribution is not often perpetuated by the heroine but it made me like her and Mavis all the more. These were characters who to my mind acted in true fashion by not being so unbelelivably forgiving. There were few low points to this story as the readers is whisked along with things not settled between Sabrina and Duncan until the very end. I especially liked that the sensuality of the couple did become the story, as seems to be the trend in today's romance ficiton but that the story was about Duncan and Sabrina's journey to find a lasting love. I found this to be a wonderful return to the type of story Ms. Lindsey is loved for. Certainly a keeper in my book. Having read many harcover of late this is one of the few worth the added cost.
