Rating: Summary: Different Review: It wasn't your typical Johanna Lindsay. I thought it was great...me being a Lindsay fan and all. But it went too easy and the romance was slow and then i didn't feel that crazy chemistry she usually has between her characters. Usually there's an amazing pull between the characters that you can't help but feel. I felt there was more potential in Sabrina with Raphael than Duncan. But it made me smile and laugh at certain points. It was really a good read, there were just a few elements that were missing that didn't make it bad, it just made it different than her usual style.
Rating: Summary: A quick light read Review: I love Johanna Lindseys writing style and find her very easy to read and "The Heir" is no exception. I found that this book, like Johanna's other books to be a page turner with no dull moments and I would still buy any Johanna Lindsey book published. Having said that I do agree with many of the previous reviewers that the characters did not have any zing. Both were sweet characters in a sweet story, the problem is that Johanna's past books have some of the best romantic characters ever created where the sparks fly and you compulsively read without thought to anything else. Buying this book in hardcover and expecting that kind of chemistry between the characters you will be dissapointed. I love Johanna's previous Mallory novels where the heros are flawed and yet loveable and the heroines are feisty with hearts of gold. While reading this book I found myself interested in the outcome and yet detached from the characters, the hero in particular seemed one dimensional and the supporting characters appear to have been better thought out than the main characters. In the end I enjoyed the read but was left feeling slightly cheated.
Rating: Summary: A Yawn Review: Duncan MacTavish is the heir. He has been betrothed by his grandfathers to a selfish, self-centered, mean-spirited beauty who is not to his liking. Instead, Duncan is drawn to Sabrina (a plain Jane with wit and immense integrity with "drop-dead" gorgeous violet eyes.) Duncan's strength of character and wonderful Scottish brogue are a winning combination. This reviewer had a ball in the beginning, feeling the rhythm of the dialogue roll off the tongue. However, "tongue play" was not enough to maintain interest in this story. About one-fourth into The Heir, and it ceased being a "page-turner" It does not come close to the mettle of a Johanna Lindsey story. There are no sparks flying between the two amorous characters. The dialogue is mediocre with a few bonfide retorts. This reviewer expects more than this lethargic story, especially with the hard cover prices. Sad to say, but The Heir was a yawn.
Rating: Summary: Are we reading the same book? Review: I'm naught but a poor college student, emphasis on poor, and so to purchase a hardback book is a big statement of trust from me. What was I thinking? I seem to forget that good authors can sour, though I don't know how I could do so with some of this author's lastest works. I usually finish a book in a few hours, this book took me days. I wouldn't have even bothered to continue past the first 100 pages if I hadn't thought that maybe, just maybe, there would be some redeeming quality. Again, what was I thinking? The characters, from major to minor, all lacked any spunk, or originality, or endearing quality, or mystery, or anything that would make the book an enjoyable read. The plot was thin, extremely thin, and I have to wonder how and why this book got past the editor's desk. Some of her books are among my favorites - I love "Angel", I love "Once A Princess." Unfortunately, those were written quite some years ago. I can only hope Ms Lindsey will snap out of whatever odd phase she's been in and return to the place that brought us some of her eariler works.
Rating: Summary: Purely Delightful -- Get It! Review: This is true Johanna Lindsey. If you love any of her other books, you will also love this one. I enjoy the humor (I wish more romance novels had this kind of humor) and interaction between the two aunts and two grandpas, but most of all, the story was beautifully romantic and fun. It was a joy to read and well worth the price. This is the kind of novel that you can settle down with after a rough day and feel renewed. I call it virtual chocolate. :D
Rating: Summary: Cute, Fun and a great start for me!! Review: I found this book to be a simple pleasure to read. I am new to Johanna Lindsey and I love the style. When Duncan first meets his pre-arranged bride to be, I wanted to reach in and slap Ophelia myself. From that moment on, I prayed that the witch would get everything she deserved and more. I think that Sabrina was the classic Cinderella. I was sorry when the story ended, but loved the way that it did.
Rating: Summary: Johanna Lindsey Has Done It Again - Another Page Turner Review: I couldn't put it down. I read it in 3 days, and now I'm sorry its over, because I know I'll have to wait at least a year for another Lindsey fix. The whole time, I was on the edge of my seat. Will Ophelia get her just deserts? She is truly terrible! It was a neat change of pace, because Lindsey doesn't usually use her 2nd or even 3rd characters as terrible people. Sabrina was so naive! Will she ever get it? I really couldn't put it down and the only regret I had when I was finished reading it, was that I had finished reading it.
Rating: Summary: ...and I thought "The Joining" was bad... Review: I was expecting another exciting Johanna Lindsey Highland story with a Sexy Highlander like Lachlan MacGregor from "Love Me Forever." Boy - was I sorely disappointed. Duncan (the Hero) is about as sexy as a slug! He isn't even interesting. In fact, the Hero and the heroine spend very little time together during the whole course of the book. Don't expect any steaming love scenes either. The passion between these two is at the very least luke warm. Do yourself a favor, buy this book used.
Rating: Summary: UNBELIEVABLE- A DUMBING DOWN OF A BEACH BOOK Review: THERE WAS NO STORY, NO CONFLICT. CHARACTERS WERE STEREOTYPES. THE FINAL CHAPTER WAS EASILY FORSEEN BEFORE THE ENDING OF THE SECOND CHAPTER. I HAVE TO STOP WASTING MY MONEY ON THESE BOOKS. YE GADS.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This novel didn't follow the regular plot line for a romance novel, but it had my favorite aspect, SCOTLAND. By haveing this novel take place partly (even if it was only 2 or 3 chapters) made it totally worth it. I love the way that Ms. Lindsey writes the way that the scottish talk in her books!
