Summary: Lacks Passion
Review: Cute little story about two people who become friends first and later lovers. I liked that much...it's more realistic. However, i was a bit confused. The heroine is supposed to be intelligent but hardly shows it. What kind of a dense person lets her friend(ANYONE in fact!) make love to her and then abandon her?! She was'nt being forgiving..she was being stupid! And HE mentions it only once for all of two seconds and even then acts as if it was no big deal! Excuse me?! Were you under some misconception that this is something she does on a daily basis?!?!
Aside from that... the book is'nt that bad. It's not very captivating but it also does'nt make you want to throw it across the room! The scandal issue though was [bad]. I was glad Raphael Locke pointed it out. Now here's a character whose story we'd like to read! And Ohpelia. She has potential! I guess these two characters were one of the reasons why i liked this book. To an extent! I'm anticipating their book as much as Jeremey Malory's!

Summary: "THIS is a Lindsey novel??"
Review: I have been a great admirer and avid reader of JL novel's for many years (a few personal favorites being: Savage Thunder, Once A Princess and The Malory Novels). I was disappointed with The Heir. The characters were superficial and the story line barely kept me awake. Nothing like the Lindsey I've read in the past. Nothing. No sparks flying, no fireworks at all. I usually read a JL novel in 1 to 2 nights - this book took me 2 weeks to finish! And only because I hate starting a novel and not finishing it.
Ms. Lindsey - you can definitely do better. **HINT: How about a novel on Jeremy Malory?**

Summary: wanting more of raphael locke
Review: I ENJOYED THE HEIR, AND I HAVE GONE BACK TO REREAD IT. BUT I MUST CONFESS THAT I HAVE DONE IT BECAUSE I WANT MORE OF RAPHAEL LOCKE. I IMAGINE HIS BOOK WOULD BE GREAT BECAUSE OF HIS CARACTER. HE WAS SO WELL WRITTEN. BETWEEN HIM AND DUNCAN, I WOULD HAVE CHOSEN RAPHAEL. I HOPE SHE WRITES A BOOK ON HIM AND ENDS MY MISERY.

Summary: No "Man Of My Dreams", but still very nice
Review: "The Heir" is about Duncan MacTavish and Sabrina Lambert. Duncan is betrothed to Ophelia Reid, but she doesn't want to marry a man she's never met. When Ophelia is going to meet her fiancé for the first time, she is accompanied by Sabrina. Duncan and Sabrina become friends that same day. After a while, they fall in love with eachother, but they encounter two major obstacles: Duncan's engagement with Ophelia, and a scandal in Sabrina's family.

Most reviews I've read on this book say it lacks passion. Maybe it's not as good as "Man Of My Dreams", but I enjoyed reading it.
The idea behind this story is nice: two people become good friends first, before they fall in love. I think that's much more realistic than "love at first sight".
(I had been "just" friends with my own boyfriend for over 4 years, when we got together.)
Hopefully Ms. Lindsey will also write a book about Raphael (another enjoyable character in the story), just like she did for Vasili from "Once a Princess".

Note: I've read the Dutch version of "The Heir", which is called "Sabrina". I don't know if the English version has a cover with stepback. If not, the Dutch cover by Franco Accornero is better. It shows Sabrina, including her lilac eyes!

Summary: What a waste of time
Review: I had always heard good things about Lindsey's books but I must say this one was a complete waste. I was expecting SOME romance in this romance novel and there was none. I was totally hating Duncan about half way through, and totally tired of "friends" as well. It took every thing I had to finish the book (hoping in the end it would redeem itself.) Unfortunately that wasn't the case. So disappointing.

Summary: Wast of money
Review: I have read almost all of this writer's other books, and enjoy her work. This book, however, was a waste of time and money. I wouldn't recommend this book to my worst enemy.

Summary: I Really Liked It
Review: I bought this book on a whim, never having read any of her work before. I was delighted and pleasantly surprised to find a story that was light, captivating and fast paced. So, I was quite surprised to log on here and find so many critical remarks comparng this to her other works. I look forward to reading those if they are really so superior, but personally I did enjoy this one.

Summary: Don't waste your money
Review: I've read quite a few Lindsey books and she is my favorite romance author but this one was one of her worst. There was no fire between the romantic leads - there was too much talk of "friendship." The hero didn't lust after the heroine. The story was really poor. There was no witty or teasing banter between the lovers and the heroine was pretty much a doormat.

Summary: Not Ms. Lindsey's best work!
Review: I am a big fan of Ms. Lindsey and I have read all of her books, but I have to say that I was disappointed with this book. It was not her usual writing and I kept wondering what had happened for her to write such a story. I felt that there was no real romance between Sabrina and Duncan; they lacked the chemistry of Ms. Lindsey's characters from her previous books. I found myself more interested in Ophelia's character and how she was developing than in the relationship between Sabrina and Duncan. I hope she will do better with her next book and I still look forward to reading her works. It would be nice to read more about Raphael, I found him to be intriguing.

Summary: This book needs more fire!!!
Review: Johanna Lindsey's other books will pull you in to the story and make you believe that the man and woman in the story are real and alive. I never can put her books down! But, The Heir lacked that luster. The sparring and fighting and romance between the 2 main characters was nill....and these are her trademarks! These make her stories alive and keep your heart pounding for for the turn of the page. The Heir was hard to get in to and I found myself VERY surprised at that. I have never had a problem w/ getting in to the characters and the story - this book was different. I kept yearning, page by page, for the potential to come that I saw for character development but it never did.
