Rating: Summary: Excellent. Even better that the Perfect Pitch Course Review: I have both courses by David L. Burge. Yes, I know, he likes to talk a lot. But the courses work! This consists of +20 tapes. Each day you listen to one side (45 minutes), where you study a certain interval or chord. It goes from the very beginning (although very useful) until some very complex jazzy chords. Once you study something, it becomes permanently fixed.I haven't yet finished (it takes 2 months) but even now my hearing has dramatically changed. Highly recommended.

Rating: Summary: A GOOD STARTING POINT Review: THE BURGUE'S COURSE ON EAR TRAINING FOCUS ON ATOMISTIC LEARNING OF INTERVALS. I THINK THIS APPROACH WORKS FOR ATONAL MUSIC, TONAL MUSIC IS HEARD AND UNDERSTOOD IN CONTEXT. RESCENT RESEARCH ON MUSIC COGNITION THROWS LIGHT ON THIS FIELD, I MEAN, IT'S EASIER TO IDENTIFY A PARTICULAR INTERVAL IN THE CONTEXT OF A GIVEN MELODY THAN ALL BY ITSELF. THE GOOD THING WITH BURGE'S APPROACH IS HARMONIC IDENTIFICATION, IT BEGUINS WITH TRIADS AND ENDS WITH JAZZY CHORDS. THIS COURSE HELPED ME TO HEAR BETTER CHORD INVERSIONS, DIFFRENT TYPES OF 7TH, 9TH, 11TH & 13 CHORDS. IT WOULD WORK BETTER ALONG WITH ANOTHER EAR TRAINING TEXT -SAY BRUCE BENWARD'S EAR TRAINING- TO MAKE A WHOLE APPROACH TO THE SUBJET. LEARNING ISOLATED INTERVALS DOESN'T HELP VERY MUCH. MOST JAZZ IS TONAL-BASED.

Rating: Summary: good, but also lacking here and there Review: This ear training course is very thorough, but it turned out to be very frustrating for me. I've had more success with the Bruce Arnold series of books and training CDs that focus on hearing notes against a key center. With the Burge course, I ultimately found the study of intervals in chromatic rounds to be detrimental. For my own needs the Arnold method has been better and actually explained some anomalous effects I noticed while doing chromatic rounds in the Burge course. (Specifically, studying the fifth from C to G I now realize was setting my ear in key of C. Going to C# in sequence produced an effect I later realized was the b2 scale degree effect in C. But when trying to study the fifths in isolation, it was distracting and I think probably held me back.) So, I think this course could be better if the intervals were immediately given a key context. Also, it would be nice if the exercises were seperated out so that you could listen to them on shuffle. Eventually, I memorized the order of the sounds, which rendered the test exercises useless to me. The Arnold course comes with a CD with each individual example as a seperate track, so you can randomly quiz, which is nice. Interestingly, the updated Perfect Pitch Supercourse starts you out (on the exercises for people working alone) studying intervals and note colors in the context of key of C, and I'm actually making more progress using the Arnold course in parallel with the Perfect Pitch course.
Rating: Summary: This is not a joke! Review: This is the most valuable course about music ever. Beside PerfectPitch (by same author), it really works. It takes time to be concluded, but the results grow every single day. The course is very good! BUT if you don't know ANYTHING about music, maybe you'll find some difficult exercises here. The course is special for amateurs musicians, like me.
