Summary: A great book for a great price!!
Review: In preparing our list of Christmas books to share with others, we had to search far and wide on amazon to find this particular book, a paperback edition of the classic Night Before Christmas.

This is the book I've used for years when reading this story to my own children, passing on Tasha Tudor and other illustrators. Why?

Although we can find the same poem and pay a lot more, with award winning illustrators, the illustrations provided by Douglas Gorsline are surely the best. They are quite colorful, and offer details little children love looking into...cats lie sleepily on the window sill, we see an overview of the town, the presents spilling from the open sack are intriguing and plentiful, and Jolly St. Nick is -- well, quite Jolly (as you can see by looking at the cover!)

The story is an "abridged version" - I'm not sure about other parents, but we read this on Christmas Eve, and we only have so much time and energy. Everything we remember from the classic poem by Clement Clarke Moore is in this version.

(From "'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse" to "He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!" In between we have everything, from the names of the eight tiny reindeer, to a belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly, including dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky".

In other words, don't be scared off by 'abridged'!)

Perhaps a hardcover edition might be more appropriate if you're giving a gift (unless you're giving to more than one child), but this book is one of the best offers we've found!

A classic done simply and inexpensively!

Summary: A lovely book
Review: Jan Brett does a great job with an old favorite. I gave this book 4 stars and not 5 because I feel that there are just too many versions of this book as it is. I feel that Ms. Bretts talents could be used on other, more originals works. Still it is a beautiful book.

Summary: Fabulous illustrations for an all time favorite story!
Review: Julie Downing has to be the best children's illustrator. Such fabulous work to go with my all time favorite poem. It is also my children's favorite no matter the season!

Summary: Attention Wegman Fans!
Review: Just in time for the holidays, William Wegman's present to all his fans comes in his latest release "The Night Before Christmas." In true Wegman style, he tells this holiday classic with words, sketches and of course, his wonderful photography. Additional thumbs up to Wegman for choosing not to include "Rudolph" into this classic story. If you are dog lover and a Wegman fan, and even if you own 100 different versions of "The Night Before Christmas", this is one version not to miss.

Summary: A Brand New NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS!
Review: Raquel Jaramillo has brought new life to one of my favorite Christmas stories. I got it for my two young sons for Christmas 2001, but I thoroughly enjoyed my pre-Christmas preview. The "authentic" family photo album gives a new brilliance to Clement Moore's tale. Jaramillo's book is a must for everyone's Christmas collection!

Summary: A classic, classically illustrated
Review: Surely there isn't a creature who cannot come up with lines after "Twas the night before christmas/ and all through the house" I suspect "not even a mouse." Yes, this is THAT poem.

Moore's poem is a deserved classic of Christmas literature and when my teen aged niece read from this volume to my eight year old daughter curled up in her lap on Christmas morning I knew it was the best eight bucks I spent that season.

On a more practical level, this volume has well laid out text with the illustrations of Arthur Rackham, in his usual classic style superbly suiting the text. Every child deserves a copy of this poem and this would be the edition I'd recommend.

Summary: Beautiful Illustrations!
Review: Tasha Tudor doesn't disappoint. Of course, I purchased this book for its illustrations as, I'm sure, all Tudor fans do. Her illustrations for this familiar Christmas favorite are gorgeous. All the tiny creatures and details are wonderful to look at and enjoy over and over again. If you like Tasha Tudor, you won't be disappointed. If you've never seen her work, a true delight awaits you.

Summary: HOORAY FOR THE CHRISTMAS CORGI!
Review: Tasha Tudor's gentle illustrations breathe new life and fresh fun into this delightful, timeless rhymed classic. The children, adults and the pets alike participate in the joy of Christmas; the corgi the children dance with is especially delightful. The little corgi has an almost knowing expression in her eyes; she appears to be caught up into the wonder of the holiday season.

This timeless classic will be read with delight time and again. The holiday spirit is something to be shared year-round, and this delightful presentation of the classic will certainly be welcomed.

Review: The classic story is brought to life with superb illustration. My 2 year old daughter and I read it over and over to prepare for Santa's visit this Christmas. It is the best version of the book we have been able to find. This makes a great newborn gift!
