Rating: Summary: fun folktales fit for bedtime Review: I borrowed this CD from the library to help my preschool and 1st grade boys calm down and drift off to sleep at night. And it does help! (Plain music CDs weren't helping anymore) My 1st grader loves it, and has taken it to school for his teacher to play for the class. The stories are funny, often involving animals, and the musical accompaniment is simple but well-crafted. The tone and pace are sleepy and quiet, the artist's voice is rich and soothing.
It IS old folktales after all, so it doesn't have much mainstream musical appeal -- there isn't a lot of rhyming lyrics or flowing melodies. It's spoken word interspersed with sung passages that were originally written to be read. I was actually surprised that the kids liked it as well as they do! But for whatever reason, they love it! And I'm happy to introduce them to quality storytelling.
