Rating: Summary: AWSOME BOOK Review: I read this book in fifth grade and i thought it was a really good book. I had to start a new school this year and it reminded me of me!!!
Rating: Summary: Should be a classic!!! Review: I read this book long ago & it was one of the BEST I'd ever read. The characters are real & this book is a lesson in compassion. Kids can be cruel to the "different" kid, but can be taught compassion. One touching scene is when Jenny begins to see Elsie as a human being instead of a "fat girl" to be ridiculed. I loved how she stood up to Sharon(who acted like a creep sometimes) when she realized how wrong it is to make fun of others. Strong in values & empathy as well as touches of humor.
Rating: Summary: Nothing's Fair in Fifth Grade Review: I really liked this book a lot! It made me realize that justbecause some kids are overweight, it doesn't mean you should pick onthem. You should respect them for who they are on the inside; not the way the outside is. If you're bored, pick up this book...! It's a WONDERFUL book! END

Rating: Summary: Nothing's Fair in Fifth Grade Review: I really loved this book and I thought it was incredibly creative. It was about a girl named Jenny who had a fat girl named Elsie come to her class. Everyone hated her, and thought she was a big fat thief; everyone asumes that she stole money from classmates because everyone's money begins disapearing. Soon, Elsie tooters Jenny in math, and slowly, they become friends. She begins to get into some troubles, where she nearly kicked out of school, and many problems and embaressments occour and for the first time, Jenny really feels bad. Will everything be okay? Will Elsie get kicked out of school? If you like realistic fiction, this book's perfect for you!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book so much Review: I was in 5th grade 11 years ago and this was one of the books our class was required to read on our reading list and to write a book report on. I could completely relate to this book at the time, because although I never had weight problems like Elsie in the book, I was treated as an outcast in class and could relate to how Elsie must have felt. I think the kids were really mean to her, and her mother was an insensitive individual with no feelings, but once they began to see her for who she really is, Jenny and Diane became friends with her after Jenny started getting math help from her and grew to like her as she got to know her and her struggles better. I liked the parts where they had the sleepover party and how they got into the stranger's car. A good read.
Rating: Summary: what kind of trouble will this bad habit cause Review: I'm surprised to know that this book is still in print. I read it in the third grade and loved it. Some things never change as to how we view others making judgements of what we see on the outside. Elsie Edwards was the new student in class. Her weight made the students uncomfortable and disgusted, including Jenny. Jenny was picked to make Elsie feel welcome which she found unfair. An attack of the flu and seeing Elsie in tears made her realize that Elsie wasn't a bad person after all.
Elsie's weight problem was a result of her parents marital discord. Food was given to her for comfort. Her mother, seeing how it affected her put on a stric diet. But Elsie's mother having no patience with Elsie, decides she is better off in a boardng school. Elsie's mother was not attached emotionally to Elsie. She saw her as something standing in her way. Jenny's friendship with Elsie changed not only Jenny, but her two friends Diane and Sharon. Elsie's self-esteem also improved.
The book is a good read. As people, we make hasty judgements towards others not by listening to others and worrying what others are thinking. Rather than going by instinct, we tend to hold back and limit ourselves. Nothing's Fair shows us that friendships don't matter in size and form.

Rating: Summary: The BEST book I ever read!!!!! Review: Is nothing fair for you in fifth grade? If so,the book Nothing's Fair in Fifth Grade is the perfect book for you to read. Another reason to read the book is because it is full of friendship,so for all of you who like friendship books, this is for you. The story is focused on the life of Elsie Edwards, who goes to a new school and is not welcome there. Elsie is an overweight girl, who is on a diet, but still asks people for food. One day, she starts stealing money, and when the teacher and the principal find out, the classroom door has to be locked. Jennifer, and Diane, are two girls in her class who don't like her. A little later in the book, Jennifer and Diane...Find out when you read the book! I would recommend this book to forth and fifth graders, because it tells people about being friends, and relates to real life. The reason I really likes this book is because I liked the technique that the author used (of really explaining the characters feelings), and also, I could relate it to one of my friends' life. I read this book in the end of fourth grade, and I knew I was ready to help new people fit in in fifth grade. For all the people who don't like to read, THIS IS FOR YOU!
