Rating: Summary: Digging a grave Review: Every time I think about this book, I am reminded of the saying,"Whenever you dig a grave for someone, dig two". You just cannot sit up and mess over someone and expect to come out of it unscathed;
For starters, Driver was an ex-con, and because of his love for his brother, he went to prison for two years on something, he had nothing to do with; Starting off a whole chain of events that just seem to pile up; Once he is released, he can't get no legitimate job; Enter Lisa; a beautiful yet twisted sister who is married yet is unhappy and convinces Driver to bump off her husband so they can get married and have babies;She also gives him $15000 to sweeten the deal, and he really needs. But when he does the job, he ends up with a job from his target and THEY become good friends; Lisa, not happy with the change of plans proceeds to make Driver's life a living hell; So, he goes to a sister grifter who helps him get the cash, but not before going through some serious stuff along the way; Personally, I didn't care for Lisa; here you got money and a husband, and you STILL ain't satisfied; No sympathies for her at all. The book was fast paced, hard hitting at times.
Rating: Summary: Suspenseful, Could not wait to turn the PAGE.... Review: I just finished reading Drive Me Crazy. It is my ninth novel I have read by EJD, I enjoyed this book. Although it wasn't what I would consider his best work, I truly enjoyed it. I have been a fan since day one. Can't wait to see what comes next!!!
Rating: Summary: Kept Me Wondering........ Review: I LOVED Drive Me Crazy! I've read all of EJD's books, this book reminded me of Thieves Paradise (which was my least favorite) but this made up for it!! It was edgy and kept me wondering what would happen to the main character! I love the way this man writes!!!
Rating: Summary: EJD fan 4 life Review: i thought this book was ok . it wasn't the best of dickey's work but he still pulled it off in the end. i love him!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Good Solid Escapism Review: JAN. 2005
Syracuse, New York
I consider EJD to be a good trash writer for black fiction and not much more, but I do have to say that he is getting better at what he does.
This one is slick, sexy and a good pageturner for when you don't want to stretch your mind too hard. I recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Good things come to those who wait! Review: This book starts out slow, but not slow enough for me to put it down because being the true EJD fan that I am, I knew it would pick up and I wouldn't be disappointed. EJD paints a picture so well, that I can visualize the characters and their surroundings. I must admit this wasn't one of his best books, however, there's something about it that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. In true EJD fashion, he brought back characters from previous novels and shed a different light on them.
If you're looking for a story full of crazy drama, suspense, redemption, and finally peace...this is the book for you!
Rating: Summary: Not What I Expected Review: This is my first Dickey experience. I hear a lot about his books, but I was disappointed. It was an okay read. Too many charaters all scattered caused confusion to the reader. In a few words to sum up the book, "In the outside world, Driver was an honest man. When he was on lock down, is when he became a criminal."
I'd like to recommend two excellent reads, "LUST OF THE FLESH" by Beverly Royalt and "THE PREACHER'S SON" by Carl Webber. Read Lust of the Flesh first then The Preacher's Son second. These are two excellent, excellent, excellent novels! "LUST" is the bomb and totally unpredictable, while "PREACHER" is pretty explosive but yet predictable. All in all, they are both hot page turners and have good messages. Guaranteed you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: An EJD Thriller Review: This is not a typical EJD novel, but that's okay, because his writing style grabs you from page one. In his latest, Drive Me Crazy there's an ex-con known as Driver, a couple of accomplices, and a scam. Oh, and there's a love triangle: Driver is having an affair with Lisa, the beautiful wife of his new boss, Wolfe. Lisa however, doesn't want to settle for merely cheating on her huband; she wants him dead and she wants Driver to do it. Driver owes the ruthless woman a large sum of money and finds himself between a rock and hard place. If he doesn't kill Wolfe, Lisa going to have him killed. What's a guy to do? This is a page-turner.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely loved it Review: This is one of those books that the more you read the more pieces fall into place. I love how Dickey throws a lot of different people, and issues at you all at once and then finds a way for them to intertwine with each other. Driver was a very well developed character. He starts off being painted as a criminal that tries to go straight. Then as his background comes into play, he's painted more as a straight man forced to go criminal. I loved that the level of depth in the backgrounds given to characters is directly related to how well Driver knew them.
I loved Thieves Paradise and this is a step above that.
Rating: Summary: Not bad Review: This was a pretty good book. It held my attention. I was expecting a little more at the end, and that was the only disappointment.
