Rating: Summary: It's a Blizzard Inside Review: Ezra Jack Keats does as outstanding job with his use of sight and sound words although the art work he used in this book is horrible!! I think first graders could have did a better job than that. Maybe next time the author should find a new artist. The story is something the children will enjoy, but without good pictures the children do not always stay interested. After reading many childrens' books this is definitely not one for entertainment. I would recommend this book for the use of learning details only. I know this would not have been my first choice when I was a child.
Rating: Summary: Very cute, and the illustrations are lovely Review: I agree with other reviewers that the story in this book isn't heart-stopping exciting and it does drag on a bit toward the end, but frankly, I'm not sure that's a bad thing. The slow, languid pace of this story makes it a very calming and relaxing bed time read. The chunky, colorful illustrations are adorable, and the fact that the little boy is not very detailed makes him sort of a child's "Everyman." The story is really about a little boy whose imagination is maybe a little too big for the fact that he's only 4 and not able to do everything he'd like, but it's cute and engaging and well worth reading.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I am 16 years old as a child this was my favorite book I really enjoy the pictures, they are very unique. I would recommend this book to any one, It's one of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring illustrations Review: I am a graphic designer inspired by this simple, beautiful book. The illustrations are truly special.
Rating: Summary: A Classic Book for little ones! Review: I enjoyed this book immensely as a child. It always made me look forward to the first snowfall every year. It's sweet message reminds us of a time when life was full of uncomplicated days and simple pleasures.
Rating: Summary: Great!!! Review: I purchased this book for my one year old daughter because I remembered it from my childhood. My daughter enjoys it so much that I now read the book 6 times a day and I still enjoy the book. It is particulaly difficult to find books featuring black children with a strong story line. The Snowy Day hits the mark. I now intend to purchase other Ezra Keats books.
Rating: Summary: memorable and well done Review: I still smile when I think about this book. The simplicity and beauty of the story and illustrations communicates an important idea...the importance of play and home.
Rating: Summary: Oh the imagination of a child in snow. Review: I was so glad when I was going through my parents attic and found my original copy of this book. My copy was even before the Caldecott symbol was on it. My 3 year son loves the story. I love the colors and the innocence of a child puting a snow ball is his pocket and expecting it to be there. Truely a great story for everyone.
Rating: Summary: The beginning of a literary adventure Review: I was starting fourth grade in a new school in 1974. My haven had always been the school library where I could escape and that was where I discovered "The Snowy Day". Hence, all of these years have passed and I still cherish the story so much . It was the first book I had read with an African-American child as the center of the story. The pictures were illuminating as I looked into another 'real' world, one that I could relate to but I believed it to be magical at the same time. I had read many books prior to "The Snowy Day" but THIS book was the embarkment of a continuing adventure with books. I recommend this book to everyone. Mr. Keats has left an indelible print in my soul and for that I shall be forever grateful.
Rating: Summary: I have loved this book for 25 years. Review: I will never forget the gentleness of this book. The quiet exploration of the child, the joy of playing without the disruptions of others. This is a beautiful book, simple and dignified in its illustratons. I loved this book when it was first read to me as a kindergarten student. I hope that every young child has the opportunity to venture into the wonders of a new fallen snow through the timeless work of Ezra Jack Keats.
