Rating: Summary: Clear, Practical and Relevant Review: Terry Savage presents a good primer for those unitiated or intimidated by the world of finance and money management as well as those who could use some alternate insights. It gives good advice that can carry though different economic realities. As a financial advisor I am amazed at the number of individuals who ASK for specific allocations that parallel the rationale Terry presents. Good stuff.
Rating: Summary: Bright and Lucid Capitalist Review: Terry Savage's tapes were a fine companion to me on a number of walks lately. Her explanations and opinions were eye openers for me on many aspects of our capitalist methods of wealth accumulation. If more people were able to speak as well and cover the territory as well as she does, I might be seduced into practicing what Terry preaches so well. Thank you for the lessons.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding book! Ignore the JBQ shill. Review: The Savage Truth on Money is a well written and highly informative money management book. Unlike say Making the most of your money by Quinn which is just a big book with mostly useless and outdated information.Ths book covers all aspects of financial planning and is written by someone actually qualified and certified to teach.I like the fact that Savage discusses options to protect your gains. This strategy alone same me a small fortune during the last bear market. And please ignore the 1 star reviews. Obviously they all emenate from the same person, a JBQ shill who doesn't realize that Savage does not work for Microsoft. Just a cheap smear campeign so typical of this individual. The Savage Truth is an OUTSTANDING book well worth your time and moneyand much better than JBQ's Making the Most of Your Money which is undoubtably the most overhyped book of all time.
Rating: Summary: A Financial Planning Book Everyone Should Own Review: There are perhaps 1,000 worthless books on investing and financial planning that have some gimmick or that appeal to the reader's sense of greed to get them to buy the book. This one isn't like that. It is simply TERRIFIC. Terry's advice is well grounded in discpline and common sense that is applicable to the sophisticated investor as well as those just getting started in providing for the future. If you only own one such book, this should be the one. If you already own a bunch of the worthless ones, throw them away and get this one. It's as good as it gets!
Rating: Summary: Unoriginal Review: There's nothing new in this book. In fact, several reviews commented that she is just restating what she wrote years ago in her prior books. The savage truth is that Ms. Savage is acting as a mouthpiece for Microsoft by touting Microsoft products in almost every chapter. It's probably no coincidence that she works for, you guessed it, Microsoft.
Rating: Summary: Old News Review: This book is nothing buy repackaged material from many other (and better) books. Two vastly superior books are: "The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need" by Andrew Tobias. "Making the Most of Your Money," by Jane Bryant Quinn. The Savage Truth is: If you're going to buy a book from a repeat author stick with Quinn or Tobias.
Rating: Summary: This is the best I have read so far! Review: This book is outstanding for beginners (like me). A very easy read yet so complex at the same time. "Aunt Terry" shows genuine concern for her readers and practily holds your hand through the concepts. This book is very thorough and up to date unlike other books out there that are 7 years old and way out of date. 2 thumbs up. A great book. Very pragmatic and powerful.
Rating: Summary: Options as tools Review: This book touches on subject matter that other authors avoid. Instead of just telling you to avoid put and call options, Terry at least tells you how these investment vehicles work. In fact, she writes that when used properly, put options can be "like buying insurance" on your gains. If you want to go a little deeper, and learn about investing from someone who has a fresh, new perspective, and from someone who gives you credit for being smart enough to understand all the nuances of investing, you need to get this book. By the way, why do women explain this stuff so much better than men do? Jeff
Rating: Summary: A personal finance book that you'll want to use! Review: We all know that it's OUR money and we should watch out for it but there's so much information out there that it's hard to even figure out what we should look for. That's why Ms. Savage's book is so useful. She walks you through the decisions and questions you have about money and points you in the right direction. She's direct and sometimes funny and is never condescending. It's as if she's in your living room looking over your shoulder as you read your brokerage statements or balance your checkbook. A great book for anyone who wants to take charge of their money!
