Rating: Summary: The Savage Truth On Money Review: I just wanted to let people know that I thought the book was very informative and written well. I asked for the book for Christmas, received it, and once I started to read it, couldn't stop. I recently finished reading the Motley Fool Investment Workbook and The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing by Jason Kelly, which were also very good. I thought The Savage Truth, however, was the most well rounded of the three.
Rating: Summary: Quinn vs Savage? Review: I noticed several posts here recommending Jane Bryant Quinn's "Making the Most of Your Money" over this excellent work by Terry Savage.I am not sure why this paid shill for Quinn continues to run down successful knowledgeable authors like Savage aside from the fact that this shill is being paid. Aside from the fact that Terry Savages book is more up to date (Quinn's book was released over 7 years ago but is being hyped lik it is new), SAVAGE is also more knowledgeable about personal finance and investing in particular. "The Savage Truth" is not a compendium of theories ala Quinn but a composite of facts from actual clients (does Quinn have any??). Of course not! Quinn is an author not a CFP or anythingelse. By contrast, Savage knows and has mastered her craft. "The Savage Truth about Money" is an outstanding book and should be read by an serious financial student. Interesting is that I pervused a local book store earlier today and found several copies of "The SAVAGE Truth", and of course a lot of books by Suze Orman. However, I could not find a single copy of "Making the Most of Your Money" by Quinn. If she is so great, how come the book stores don't even carry her books? Or are we to assume that her books only sell via the internet where people will gladly pay a huge shipping fee due to the cost of that book? Anyway, I highly recommend "The Savage Truth on Money" for people who want straight, competent and current financial advice by a real financial authority. I recommend Quinn's book as well but keep in mind that much of it is outdated and that Quinn is a writer without any financial credentials. Also, I am sure that anyone who has read both books and used the advice will agree that at least Terry Savage's advice works.
Rating: Summary: To My readers Review: I thank the many thousands of people who have purchased and profited from my books, and those who have taken the time to write a review. But I'd like to make one correction: I do not "work for" Microsoft. I write columns for their www.MoneyCentral.com website and moderate a discussion board there, for which I am compensated. But I am also paid to write columns for the Chicago Sun-Times, Barrons Online and Mature Outlook Magazine, as well. I also do commentaries for PBS' Nightly Business Report, for which I am paid. Further, I made every effort to mention Quicken software every time I mentioned Microsoft's Money product -- except where describing different features. I pride myself on my reputation for independent journalism and hold myself to the highest standards. Sincerely, Terry Savage PS Couldn't post a review without stars!
Rating: Summary: You must have this book! Review: If you are trying to get ahead financally this book is written to help you. This book encourages the use of your personal computer and internet access to get and use information to your advantage. The discussions on Roth IRAs and investments are clear and easy to understand. This is a book you will want to keep on the shelf for reference.
Rating: Summary: Not a Book, Just a Microsoft Advertisement Review: If you want to pay for a Microsoft advertisement, then this book is for you. Otherwise, choose a money book written by someone who isn't shilling for a company.

Rating: Summary: Paid Flack For Microsoft Review: Ms. Savage purports to be a journalist and objective financial planner. Yet if you read her book or see her show, where she blatantly and unrelentingly plugs Microsoft products, you would never know that she is on Microsoft's payroll. Come on Terry, if you're going to line your pockets with corporate money, why don't you have the courage to disclose the names of your benefactors and why you're plugging their products?
Rating: Summary: Self-serving Author Review Review: Ms. Savage takes money from Microsoft while touting their products and then writes a self-serving explanation. And SHE GIVES HERSELF 5 STARS in the process! AUDACITY BUT NO ETHICS.
Rating: Summary: Exploiting women's fears for her profit Review: Ms. Savage thinks that by throwing in the word "emotion" women will think this book "talks to them." This is a calculated attempt to profit from women's fears about money. Even Oprah did NOT buy it! Better books were written by Jane Bryant Quinn and Peter Lynch.
Rating: Summary: Terrific, and smart! Review: Terry Savage is so smart when it comes to money, and this book is really terrific. She makes concepts very simple without talking down to us, and I love all the resources she uses in the book. Her examples and To Do lists make it really easy to follow her advice. This book is both inspiring and helpful, and I'd highly recommend it.
