Summary: WOW - not to be missed.
Review: One of the best books I've read in a great while. Lyrical and compelling. Cause for much pondering......a GREAT book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Masterful Intertwining Plots
Review: This was my first novel of Anita Shreve's and I am very impressed. Shreve deftly intertwines two very emotionally-charged and intriguing situations so that the reader is constantly hungering for the continuation of both tales. I couldn't put it down. At the completion of the novel, I loved the fact that the ending was unpredictable. I hope that all of Shreve's novels are this satisfying!

Summary: An intiguing story with the past and present intertwined
Review: The book at time seems a little slow, but as you delve into the pages, its well woven story, with the past and present intertwined, starts to grip you with its intrigue. It's a book well worth reading, and its story will 'stick to your ribs'. Anita Shreve writing style is unique and commendable.

Summary: GREAT one of best ever read!!
Review: I was thrilled to discover both a new author for myself and an intriguing story. BUT... it was a bit confusing with the two plots. I have recommended it to other avid readers. And..I shared my experience with my class of 3rd grade readers.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: captivating story, including historical details
Review: Picked this one up at the library just by chance, as a change from usual best sellers and Oprah books. Loved it! Spent the first few readings keeping up with characters and geography, then just fell in, couldn't stop until the mystery was solved. More interested in past murder case than Jean's modern day struggles, but wonderful dual storyline. Ready to read more by Anita!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A quick read, dark and emotionally satisfying
Review: Shreve's novel is emotionally satisfying in the way that going through old photos can be. There's a bit of the voyeuristic pleasure in it as the reader witnesses taut relationships played out in the confines of a boat. You get wrapped up in the story as it seamlessly weaves the present and the past, both fraught with explicitly female tensions. I bought it because I wanted something dark and full of emotion with a story that was easy to follow. I was not disappointed.

Summary: Excellent Book!!
Review: I loved this book...it instantly made me an Anita Shreve fan. I've since read the Pilots Wife, Resistance, Eden Close. I'm sure I'll read all her books at some point! highly recommended. Lent it to my Mom, and my sister..they both called me to tell me how much they enjoyed it!!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: beautifully written, interesting dual storyline
Review: I found "The Weight of Water" by Anita Shreve to be an enoyable read for many reasons. The prose was lovely and the parallel story lines interesting. The setting was reminiscent of another favorite, "Shipping News" (Annie Proulx) with the powerful forces of nature and the sea a playing an integral part of the characters development.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Every word conveyed sadness.
Review: An overwhelmingly disturbing, depressing, dark novel. You might want to take some Prozac before beginning this book....you'll surely need it by the book's lonely ending.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: spare but powerful tale
Review: This book interweaves a contemporary story of a wife's insecurity and jealousy with the account of two murders - also the result of frustration and jealousy. The writing and plot are compelling. The major flaw of the book for me was that the male characters were incompletely characterized, thus leaving faceless and in shadows one part of this passionate equation.
