Summary: Wonderful Reading
Review: This book was very entertaining. It takes place in a town in Florida called Verity. It is a place that is always hot and humid and always very crazy in May. This May someone was murdered and Kevin gets too involved. He runs away with a baby and appears to be the murderer. Together, Kevin's mom, Lucy, and Julian, a police officer, find out who the real murderer is and they fall madly in love. It is a very enchanting story of love and family ties. I really enjoyed reading this book. I think most readers who enjoy reading about love should read this book. It flows well and keeps you wanting to know more. I couldn't put the book down until I was done.

Summary: Captivating
Review: I began reading Alice Hoffman's work when Oprah's pick was 'Here on Earth'. I have to say, I was interested in her as an author, but didn't leave 'Here on Earth' with a very good feeling. I wanted, however, to read more of her work - hence my review here of Turtle Moon. I loved this book. The characters - especially the 'Meanest Boy in Verity' - were well developed and interesting. It was one of those books you want to continue to see what happens next in their lives. I've read a couple of Alice Hoffman's books since reading 'Here on Earth' and 'Turtle Moon', but 'Turtle Moon' is my favorite so far. I will continue to read the rest of her books because I love when an author takes you in directions that your mind would never take you by itself.

Summary: One Of Alice Hoffman's Better Novels
Review: Readers of other Alice Hoffman novels will detect some familiar themes here: a misfit young boy, a misfit animal who relates to the misfit young boy, a misfit man and woman who try to find a fit with each another. But there's also a plot that moves along briskly, a focus on several conflicted and well-developed characters (not too many or too few), and an upbeat ending that reflects the bittersweet aspects of real life. If you like Alice Hoffman, you won't be bored or depressed by this one.

Summary: Good If You Need a Nap
Review: When I started reading this book, I thought the way it was written was great, jumping from character to character and building up details. I soon found that was the only great thing about this book.

Hoffman throws little bits of philosophical thoughts at the beginnings and ends of her chapters, to sound more quotable. But overall who would want to quote phrases like "the meanest boy in Verity". The book was slow-moving, repetitive, predictable, and frankly ridiculous. Why would anyone want to have sex with a crazy cop with an ugly face and two vicious dogs who stalked you? I think that the characters are warped and I in no way could relate to any of them. The writing wasn't bad, but Hoffman needs to build a better plot.

I may just have to keep this book around for occations when I need a good nap or feel like reading about some people who are possibly more annoying that my co-workers.

Summary: Alice failed twice
Review: For some reason I gave Alice Hoffman a second chance. After reading Seventh Heaven and finding Alice boring and tiresome, I grabbed Turtle Moon off the bookshelf on the way to the airport.

Bottom Line: If I had to read the phrase: "The meanest boy in Verity" one more time, I think I would have thrown the book across the room.

The characters actions were not logical. Lucy's son is missing so she screws the nasty policeman? What is that all about? I cared nothing for any of the characters and could not even bear to finish the book.

I am seriously thinking of starting my next barbeque with this book. I'll have to throw "Deep End of the Ocean" on the fire too.

Alice Hoffman is not for me. YAWWWNNNN!

Summary: And the point was?
Review: Led by the Oprah book club, I read "Here on Earth". Although it wasn't my usual type of read, I finished it and thought I would give another Hoffman novel a chance. Why did I waste my time? "Turtle Soup" started out sad and depressing and kept up that pace.

I never cared about any of the characters--Lucy and Julian probably deserved one another. It was just a bad bad book.

This book would not make it to my recommendation list. (And I do like most of the Oprah books!)

Summary: GREAT BOOK
Review: This is my first Alice Hoffman book, but I know it won't be the last. I loved this book. It moves right along, so you don't have to skim over three paragraphs of room decor descriptions. She makes magic seem real with her matter-of-fact style.

Summary: its was very nices book
Review: It is a mix of murder and magic inte the Florida sunshine as only Hoffman. As well as for having more divoreed women from New York than any other town in the star'te of Florida. Lucy Rosen is one of those women. she has recently moved to Verity, and what she doesn't know yet is that in May, when the turtles come out and crawl across the roads, anything can happen. That was alittle of my reviews

Summary: POSITIVELY UNIQUE
Review: Fabulous story. POSITIVELY UNIQUE I could feel the tropical heat. And I "loved" all the characters. I came away feeling good, glad to have had the pleasure.

Flows right along. And there is NOT A WASTED WORD (no page or paragraph skipping here!)

I just wished there was more said at the end on Julian & Lucys life afterwards. Of course I would of liked another 100pgs too :o)

Summary: Hypnotic
Review: This is a wonderful Alice Hoffman, maybe slightly better than *Practical Magic*! The cast of characters are memorable, each with a past and are three dimensional people, unique and their names fit them. You can identify with each and every one. The Angel added a lovely touch to the story, who lives in the gumbo lingo trees, and his affection for Shannon. Shannon's mother's ex-boyfriend, Julian, helps Lucy search for her son Keith, and a murdered woman's baby, causing them to go all around Verity, and even up to Long Island. Wonderful, memorable, hypnotic. Alice Hoffman has done it again. And her descriptions of Great Neck and accuracy of high schools are fantastic!!! :) *Turtle Moon* is a definite winner.
