Rating: Summary: A little something from Korea Review: I read this book back when I was in high school long before i ever thought about joining the military.. Now I'm in the Army in Korea and this book continues to shed facts even to this day on what could happen at any moment. "Must read for anyone in the military coming to korea!" Too many people take the day for granted over here. Every once and awhile new occurance rises and I cant help but think.. are they here already? -PFC Signal Corps-
Rating: Summary: Dissapointing... Review: I was very dissapointed with this book. The characters are unintresting throughout, with minimal development. While at times suspenseful, the plot ends up letting itself down with a very unsatisfying ending, which makes you wonder why you spent your time and money to read this book.
Rating: Summary: As good as Clancy's early books Review: Larry Bond collaborated with Clancy on Red Storm and he has obviously picked up Clancy's style for the military techno genre. In short, the book was very exciting, detailed, militarily accurate and balanced a number of subplots with equal excitement. I wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone who enjoyed the early Clancy and Coontz type books. This was my first Bond book and I guarantee it wont be the last.
Rating: Summary: A 700 plus page techno-thriller. Review: Larry Bond has written a number of techno-thrillers. Most are very similar, as many of Louis L'amour's western novels carried the same settings and themes. The techno-thriller, first pioneered by the James Bond (no relation, ha-ha)novels has been growing in popularity as well as in the length of the novel itself. Most techno-thrillers have created intricate storylines surrounding the techno-babble used to impress or gloss over gray areas in the story.
Red Phoenix has the advantage of being an earlier techno-thriller and therefore has more original and less obscure references and gizmos.
If you like Tom Clancy or even Ian Fleming, you will probably like this book as well.
Rating: Summary: Starts slow, but be patient, its worth the time to read. Review: Larry Bond is good at the Modern Day Geopolitical Thriller.
Because Mr. Bond gives the reader so much background information in this story line, Red Phoenix seems to start off a little slow. However, hang in there, the book picks up speed about 100 pages in
and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the next 600 pages.
North Korea takes advantage of civil unrest in South Korea with a rapid, well planned massive invasion.
The Americans and the South Koreans are caught off guard and suffer heavy casulties early but manage to pull off some brillant tactics later on.
Mr Bond, gives an unbelievable account of modern naval warfare that is every bit as exciting at air to air dog fighting.
This is a must read book

Rating: Summary: SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Larry Bond ROCKS!!!!!!!! His novel Red Phoenix is one of the best war stories I've ever read, with more action than probably 90% of all the other books I've read: It's got submarine warfare, air combat (using MiG-29's, F-16's, F/A-18's, F-14's and Phoenix missiles, to name a few!), infantry warfare in blood-soaked snow, a little armor warfare, and O SO MUCH MORE!!! Red Phoenix absolutely riveted me! Sure it started out a little slow, but after some realistic (and still pretty darn entertaining) planning and preparation by the North Korean forces, the novel EXPLODES full-force 200 or so pages into the book. While I was reading Red Phoenix, I decided right then and there that it was the standanrd by which I would judge any and all books dealing with a 2nd Korean War
Rating: Summary: Bond does it again! Review: Larry Bond that is! Another superbly crafted tale with a roller coaster ride of mayhem and high tech violence. A must for techno-thriller fans.
Rating: Summary: Kickass action galore! Review: Like Tom Clancy`s`Red Storm Rising`, I would love to give this awesome technothriller 50 out of 10! The format is similar - after a massacre in Seoul where student protestors are shot by the military police(struck a chord as it was written after the Tian`amen Square massacre), political upheavals and the plan behind the Second Korean War - this story is a blast! The F-16 Falcon and F-4 Phantom scenes are highly realistic and so brilliant you just cannot help but be swept along at supersonic speed by the action! You will WANT to be with the pilots tearing across the skies! There are also excellent war action sequences on the surface of the sea and below it. I particularly liked the Russian intervention as well; Larry Bond has carried this forward so feasibly it was plausible. On the ground, a foxhole is surrounded on the demilitarized zone, adding more dimension to the story. There is a hint of romance between a fighter pilot and a female logistics worker who is stranded at Seoul`s airport and almost bombed by a DPRK raid, which is better done than most romantic subplots in novels of this genre. Altogether, this is my first Larry Bond novel I`ve read, and I will definitely look out for more. A smashing read with kilotons of explosive action! You won`t want to put this one down! BUY IT NOW!
