Summary: Music Makes It Fun
Review: I borrowed this cassette from the library and found it so helpful I had to purchase one for myself. Even after listening to the cassette many times I haven't gotten bored with it. The music is catchy and the vocubulary consists of common, useful phrases. This is a fun learning tool! I've tried other language learning cassettes with a musical background and this one is definitely superior. I highly recommend it for beginning German students of any age!

Summary: A complete waste
Review: I expected to hear rock songs sung in German to help improve my grammar and learn some new phrases. Big disappointment. The tape consists of individual words *spoken* over a very annoying, cheaply synthesized back beat. Furthermore, the vocabulary words seem to be random -- there is no building to the phrases on the last track. The musical background is so cheesy I couldn't even make it all the way through the tape. It comes with a small booklet that gives an overview of German grammar; if you've never studied it won't make sense and if you have studied it's redundant. There is a children's series called "The Lyric Language" which does this much better; I was hoping for a more mature version of that, but this is completely worthless.

Summary: a small price to pay for fun listening practice
Review: This cassette consists of 2 young people having conversations in German and English. It is set at a fake rock concert. The music is a bit corny, but the overall effect is fun... and fun makes learning more memorable, right? I found this to be an excellent aid to learning German while I was commuting. For the best effect, listen to it many times (at least a dozen or two). It is well worth it at the price.
