Rating: Summary: The end of war Review: Wow!! I just finished the book, after reading the Gates of Fire. Both are GREAT books. In this book, the author leads us via three mortals and three gods in world war II. He likes all three mortals, and dislikes the US god and Russian god.His skill at writing is extrodinary. The comparison of motives and drives for all six is fun to watch: American: glory; German: survival; Russian: restoration. All three lead to conflicts where they each have to determine the value of life. Very interesting to watch. His writing skill is best shown at the end, where the US mortal is reunited with his wife, and the German mortal women are united with the Russians. QUITE a contrast, that left me kind of weird feeling. As in Gates of Fire, honor is an underlying theme in the book, a wrestling match, that, I enjoy watching.
Rating: Summary: Engaging historical fiction. Review: WW2 buffs or just those in search of an exciting war drama will enjoy this work that brings you close to the well-researched (and consequently, well-dramatized) private lives of the players behind the resolution of World War II. Fast paced, easy reading...perfect for that red-eye flight or rainy day read.
