Rating: Summary: A page-turner! Review: This book offers fascinating insights into their relationship. It should not be discredited because of a typo that is obviously a printer's error and not the author's. And for all those criticizing the author's sources, they should see the extensive source and chapter notes in the back of the book. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Two Thumbs Up Review: It takes guts to write a book like this. It's an insight into the actual personal lives of the Clintons. All transgresions, all bumps. If you ever wanted to look behind the scenes, this one is it! Wow!
Rating: Summary: Clip-Job Chris Review: I could not believe the poor way in which Andersen cites his sources. Unlike real, professonal authors who list each source one by one in each chapter, he lumps sources and chapters together. Sadly, increased competition has pushed many journalists to sacrifice accuracy for speed. The book has several key spelling errors, it lacks original reporting, and the primitive chapter notes, lead me to believe that this book was rushed to print. Readers beware: don't rush out to buy it.
Rating: Summary: Christopher Andersen's Bill and Hillary: THE FLOP Review: What an utter disappointment. That sums it up. Anderson makes wild outrageous claims and then has the nerve not to name the source of his claims. He writes that Governor Clinton, while attending an engagement party seduced the bride in front of her fiance, broke up the engagement and then made her believe he was going to marry her and divorce Hillary. According to whom? Andersen claims that two weeks after the impeachment trial, Clinton had a secret service agent approach a young woman and ask her back to his room for a drink, again who is the source. ANDERSEN CANNOT EVEN GET THE NAME OF THE FAMOUS INTERN CORRECT - IT'S NOT LEWINKSY BUT LEWINSKY! I once had a journalism professor tell me that if you are not correct on the little things people will not believe you on the big things. I think this is a perfect example. If we accept this book, we lower the bar on what we expect from journalists.
Rating: Summary: Nothing new, but a nice survey of a complex relationship Review: Bill and Hillary is an admixture of news stories and biographical bits assembled from other, long-published sources. The title tempts us because it suggests some insights into what must be a very interesting marriage indeed! If you have not read anything on the Clintons' personal lives, this would be a fair place to start. But if you have already surveyed the territory, you will find nothing new. Amazon sells another title, Hillary Clinton, The Inside Story, which is better at shining light on the motives of the parties in this strange marriage. All of the juicy, gossipy, behind the scenes stories are told without much of an offering of analysis. Even though analysis of someone's marriage from afar would be guess work at best, it would be interesting nevertheless. Another word of caution, if you are a certified Clinton hater, this will proably not feed your appetite. The writing is pretty level. There is more of a flavor of sadness and even sympathy than persecution.
Rating: Summary: A look into the dynamics of a relationship. Review: I bought the book to get an idea of how the Clintons work and how they got where they are. What keeps them going, what keeps them together? I was not dissapointed but I was sadened by the insight. While the tale seems to hit the highlights of their journy together with more honesty than much of what is written about them, it is not spellbinding. I don't know if it the writing or the subject. As the Clinton presidency nears the end we may not have seen the last of their political ambition. It is worth reading in order to understand what drives this ambitious couple.
Rating: Summary: How to Date in the 90's Review: I purchased this tome with an eye toward obtaining dating advice. What a wonderful book in that regard. I had no idea that most of the lines I was using were out-of-date, or entirely too clever for the average female. Why not just ask the women if they want to "mess around in the back of my El-Camino." Oh brother, this book is a gold mine, a virtual bevy, a veritable cornucopia of useful phrases and ideas to get overweight, un-attractive girls in the sack. Hats off (or better yet dresses off) to you MR. President.
Rating: Summary: Bill and Hillary Should Never Have Married Review: Many people have put this book down as trash. I do not. I couldn't put the book down as it fascinated me. It reveals Bill's and Hillary's lives from childhood to their marriage to the presidency. It tells of how they met and all of Hillary's hygiene habits - which were few - during her college days. (I was in college when they were and I shaved my legs, used deodorant, and washed and combed my hair. Why Hillary didn't is a mystery to me.) There were facts in this book that I had not read or heard about before. Bill is a Rhodes scholar. Hillary cussed and hollered at Bill 85% of their marriage. She knew that he was a womanizer before she married him and married him anyway. Before the White House, she had him investigated by private detectives and knew of his huge amount of indiscretions so her boo-hoo sobbing over the Monica thing is redundant. Both had hidden agendas when they married each other. She could ride on Bill's coattails to the White House and Bill could pick her brain when he needed to. Maybe Hillary really loved Bill, but Bill married her for political reasons only. He calls her "The Warden" to many of his conquests, ladies of the evening and long-standing girlfriends. What kind of love is that? The author did not take sides - he just wrote his interviews and findings in a very interesting and easy-to-read forum. I knew Hillary was a cold woman and Bill was likeable and easy, but with a temper out of the public eye. This book reveals behind-the-scenes instances of these character flaws. Did you know Bill was found groping a woman in the bathroom at his and Hillary's wedding reception? Did you know the extent of Vince and Hillary's affair...just how serious it really was? Did you know that Hillary is partly responsible for Vince's deep depression and ultimate suicide? Did you know that Bill met with Sharon Stone? You have got to read this book and find out these shocking details that were only vaguely touched on in the media.
Rating: Summary: Major dissapointment Review: What purports to be a serious journalistic exercise is really an artwork of mud-wracking. If you're looking for juicy gossip, its here. But most of the charges are silly and unsubstantiated. Somebody says Bill Clinton has a sexual disease because he claims to have seen his medical records. Who is this person? How would he get his medical records? Is there anybody who can back this up? Spare me.
