Rating: Summary: An Enthralling Adventure Review: It has been a while since a book was written with such imagination and insight. The wonderful descriptions of a recluse genius and his super intelligent, super society is just what the new age of science fiction needed. This story is a mix of H.G.Wells, Verne, Bradbury, Lucas and Walt Disney all rolled together. The before mentioned names will now forever include Mr. Xavier Joseph Carbajal. Excellent and impressive work. I look forward to the sequel.
Rating: Summary: An exceptional Captain Nemo Review: The graceful nature of this authors writing is at times simple and direct. Then at other times frightfully dark. The minds of the main characters, Captain Nemo and Uriah, are classic examples of pure genius. Both of these characters are warriors who wish to control the seas and oceans, in a time of chaos, when the United Nations has collapsed and anarchy begins to rule the world. The technology of Nemo's submarines, like the Trinity, the Nautilus and the Avenger, are a remarkable and innovative part of this novel. It is a treat to see a novel with a great adventure, mixing state of the art scientific inventions and discoveries on a realistic level. This Captain Nemo could actually be out there right now. My son and daughter are in the navy and we all agree, this was a great book.
Rating: Summary: This Captain Nemo is a Classic! Review: Considering the amount of true scientific research afforded this novel, I am amazed how entertaining the plot of this adventure was. The prose about the oceans and the swimming with the whales was dreamlike in dimension. One need only close their eyes to see the images in their minds. What a wonderful surprise this Captain Nemo. But this can't be the Jules Verne Captain Nemo or is it? Either way, Mr. Carbajal has created an extraordinary novel.
Rating: Summary: On it's way to a Classic Review: Considering the amount of true scientific research afforded this novel, I am impressed how entertaining the plot is. A very amazing twist on good verses evil, verses an even greater evil. The prose regarding the ocean topographics and the communication with the sea creatures was good form. But this can't be Jules Vernes Captain Nemo? The characteristics are all different. A true warrior with insight and style. This Captain Nemo will become a treat for generations to come.
Rating: Summary: Visions of Seamus Heaney and James Joyce Review: At times this magical journey is raw and hard. Hard like the life Captian Nemo and his loyal crew have chosen. You can feel the cold of the deep dark ocean and the brutality of survival in the black abyss. The submarine battles are fast and intense, and then there is this calling from the ocean. The author becomes poetic, as in the following descriptions of the seascape off the coast of Cuba: Planulae schools flowed in thick currents for miles and miles under the waters. Yes, fish and a surprising amount of cephalopods. The measurements of activity recorded was immense. Cnidarians of polyps blossomed and stretched out tentacles, even in this afternoon sunlight. Platys fluttered in a divine choreographic dance around and about hammerhead sharks. Grunts tried hard not to bump into each other. Blueheads, parrotfish and mullets frolicked around massive sea fans and hundreds of unidentified coral specimens. And in the middle of this paradise; two Romeo submarines. The author constantly shows the struggle for peace in this Captain Nemo's soul. Here is a mortal man who has found out how to live for hundreds of years. The scenes of Marco Island are breath taking with the warm gulf waters slowly rolling over the cockles and dosinias under the orange and violet sunset. And here is this Ernest Hemingway-of-a-bilionare-genius commanding submarines like the Nautlius, the Trinity and the Avenger. Bravo. Where did this genius of a writer come from? The way Mr.Carbajal blends modern oceanographic technology with slapstick humor and graceful prose is a marvel. The chapters titled "The Isles of Gold" and "Atoll" are a very important to the reader. These chapters let you get into the mind of this Captain Nemo. Here again is this genius scientist studying a new species of fish in the middle of a war. He is so in need of peace but he has to go to battle. And who is this charcter named Joseph from Marco Island? Is he a shape shifter? There are so many undertones in this novel of American Indian and Pagan culture. Of a love of the earth, stars and oceans. Of the circle of life. The panther in the everglades. Boondi the shark and Beelzebub the dolphin. Such great detail went into this novel. It is a classic and a treasure. But one last question. Is this the same Captain Nemo from Jules Verne or is this some genius of the sea who thinks he is Captain Nemo? Put a two dozen copies of the sequel aside for me and my book club. Great work Mr. Carbajal. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Science fiction at it's best Review: The words of this novel start off musical, with descriptions of the ocean and the stars, and then grabs the reader, plunging them into a not-stop adventure under the sea. Anyone who reads this novel will actually believe these characters exist. Out there right now. For those of us who live near the sea or the ocean, this powerful, genius is out there. Mr.Carbajal has created a prize with this fairy tale of the great Captain Nemo. Here is a man with the power to rule the world and chooses not to. The love this captain has for the oceans is intense; you can feel the emotions down to your bones. The scenes where they are driving golf balls off the top of one of the submarines was a brilliant way to show how this Captain Nemo and his crew dared every navy in the world to come after them. The technology with the spikes changing the salinity of the ocean to create hurricanes was very well researched. The chapter called "Atoll" had me gasping for water. Uriah, Ari, Kronos and especially the sea creatures with their telepathic powers was just the kind of fresh idea books need nowadays. I eagerly await the next chapters of this fantastic Star Wars under the sea adventure, and all the many more novels to come.
Rating: Summary: spectacular vision and story telling Review: When the pace of this novel is not moving full speed ahead, the descriptions of the darkest depths of the ocean takes more then your breath away. Between the classic plot of good verses evil there exists the magical underwater kingdoms of this recluse genius and madman of the oceans. The sea creatures were magnificent. The state of the art submarine technology is prophetic. Such detail to their characteristics, their sizes and behavior. This novel is a treasure and is a joy for young and old. My whole family enjoyed this novel so much. All of us eagerly await the sequel.
Rating: Summary: If Jules Verne were alive today, he would have penned this. Review: A flawless book with characters you come to really know. So much so, you want more of their adventures. An extraordinary tale. If they do make a movie, they'll have to get the big guns out to do this book justice.
Rating: Summary: What an excellent story--I can't wait for the sequel Review: I really enjoyed this book. The story is very fast paced. And the concept continues from where Jules Verne left off. The concept of the world being commanded by one deranged sociopath who has the greatest powered submarine in the world is scary and thrilling. Who knows, if someone could make hurricanes like Nemo can, what would happen to the world as we know it! I hope this comes out into a motion picture. It would be great fun!!
Rating: Summary: A man in search of the perfect world! Review: Every little detail about this novel is fantastic. The chapter called "Captain Nemo" has created a dark lonely character out of what seems to be the Jules Verne 'Captain Nemo'. As this fairy tale of an adventure continues, the reader is literally submerged into landscapes of submarine worlds. Nightmares and daydreams flow throughout this beautiful tale of a man's journey to find room in his life to love his oceans, science and his wife, Sherry Lynn. Sailors from navy battles long forgotten are now part of Captain Nemo's crew. Sea creatures who think and communicate with the crew of the Nautilus, the Trinity and the Avenger give a dimension that I can not find in any other works of science fiction, fantasy or fiction. What a beautiful story, 'this' Captain Nemo is. A.T. Nelson
