Rating: Summary: Hurrah for Captain Nemo! Review: I very much enjoyed this Captain Nemo novel. I plan to bring this book in to teach my classes when I return next week. This new story of Captain Nemo will certainly be a treat for my fourteen, fifteen and sixteen year old students because 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was one of the novels I recommended for their summer reading. This futuristic tale of a mans struggle against a modern world invading his oceans has a wonderful amount of metaphors. Chapters like the Atoll show how Captain Nemo's very spirit was challenged at his darkness moments and how even he even dares God. The human elements appeared again in Warriors that Fall as well as Captain Nemo's need to protect his wife, Sherry Lynn, from the dangers of sea. The author, Xavier Joseph Carbajal, has dug deep into the superego of this recluse, genius with a fresh, new style. Giving Captain Nemo and his crew the power to communicate with the sea creatures showed the true connection he had with the storms, the ocean and the balance of the world. I am going to order a copy of the audiobook for my students. We are going to have lots of fun with this because you can't tell if this is Jules Vernes Captain Nemo or a very powerful impostor.
Rating: Summary: Very dramatic storytelling Review: This Captain Nemo audiotape was fantastic. I've purchased several best selling novels on tape or CD that have turned out flat. But Captain Nemo was and still is excellent. My teenagers even liked this audiotape (and thats a miracle in itself). They said they could visualize all the faraway places Captain Nemo and his submarines traveled. Captain Nemo is also educational. It got us talking about math, science and the wonders of the ocean.
Rating: Summary: Jules Verne would be proud of this Captain Nemo! Review: The reader, the effects, the music, everything about this book-on-tape was great. My children sat and listened along and we drew pictures of the ocean, the submarines, the islands and the sea creatures. Not only was this a fun and exciting story, it was also educational.Thank you.
Rating: Summary: THRILLING!!! Review: The only thing I can compare Captain Nemo to is the Irish musical called "Riverdance". The story of Captain Nemo as he struggles to save his oceans, his soul and the love for his wife was a very important part of this story. Then, the Captain Nemo overture at the end gave this fine story a grand finale like the music in "Riverdance". I didn't want this story to end. Maggie.
Rating: Summary: Captain Nemo is a work of Art! Review: I buy and listen to dozens of audibooks a year and I have never heard one as magical as this Captain Nemo. The story teller and the author paint a multi-dimensional canvas of good verses evil in an underwater world of the future. The vivid descriptions and the prose concerning the coral seascapes, giant sea creatures and the id of Captain Nemo were breathtaking.
Rating: Summary: BRILLIANT!!!!! Review: It is amazing how a few minutes into this audiobook you feel like you are part of Captain Nemo's crew, traveling around under the ocean. The storyteller for this book-on-tape was clever, the way he used different accents for all the international characters like Ari, Jackie, Captain Riley and,of course, Captain Nemo. This Captain Nemo story is one of the best audiobooks I've heard in years. My company has me travel a lot and I listen to some of these audiobooks because I don't have a lot of time to read the new bestsellers. all I can say is "Captain Nemo is a winner!"
Rating: Summary: Educational and brilliant! Review: The wonderful thing about this Captain Nemo novel , is that it got a lot of my students interested in reading other classical novels and learn about other great authors. Since we read Captain Nemo we have read 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and Mysterious Island. Many of my students have started a debate as to whether or not this Captian Nemo is the Jules Verne character or some man who thinks he is Captain Nemo. Other unique ideas in Captain Nemo is how the character uses Latin to describe some of the species of whales and fish, as well as the science of the ocean techonlogy weaved within the dialogue of Captain Riley, Ari, Sonja, Jackie and other characters. The story also depicts the morals of the characters, with a twist on what is good and what is evil. Captain Nemo was also energized with vivid scenes of a mystic, underwater world. This novel is on its way to becoming a classic.
Rating: Summary: A great adventure under the seas. Review: It was a pleasure finding this novel. I read it over twice. My two sons who are in college also read Captain Nemo and were very impressed by Mr. Xavier Carbajal's style of writing. Scenes in Captain Nemo move along fast and then suddenly there are these magnificent descriptions of underwater worlds inhabited by whales, sharks and giant sea creatures that communicate with Nemo and his crew. I don't think this is supposed to be the Jules Verne Captain Nemo; but I know Mr. Verne would loved to have a copy of this novel.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful! Review: The hand of this writer is like the hand of a painter. The way Captain Nemo blends with the beauty of the ocean and then mixes with the deep cold darkness was wonderful. I started reading this novel in the morning and half way through I noticed it was almost evening. The vivid descriptions and the technology was woven into a delightful tale of another world. The way this author gave Captain Nemo such dimension and depth was very stylish. The other characters like Captain Riley, Ari, Jackie and Uriah were created with humor and wit that was not only believable but also made you want to read on.I will be looking for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: A man in search of the perfect world! Review: Every little detail about this novel is fantastic. The chapter called "Captain Nemo" has created a dark lonely character out of what seems to be the Jules Verne 'Captain Nemo'. As this fairy tale of an adventure continues, the reader is literally submerged into landscapes of submarine worlds. Nightmares and daydreams flow throughout this beautiful tale of a man's journey to find room in his life to love his oceans, science and his wife, Sherry Lynn. Sailors from navy battles long forgotten are now part of Captain Nemo's crew. Sea creatures who think and communicate with the crew of the Nautilus, the Trinity and the Avenger give a dimension that I can not find in any other works of science fiction, fantasy or fiction. What a beautiful story, 'this' Captain Nemo is. A.T. Nelson
