Summary: About three hundred pages too
Review: I was instructed to read this book for a psychology classresearch paper on borderline person ality disorder, and was quite disappointed. I'd never read anything by Ann Rule before and hopefully never will again.The subject matter was interesting... who doesn't like a good true crime murder mystery? Unfortunately, Rule's elementary writing style and tendency to ramble and repeat her self made the book drag on endlessly. It almost seemed as if she was trying to unnecessarily pad the story at some points, as if she had a page number quota to meet. Perhaps Rule's goal was to be thorough, but I felt that all of the pointless details were distracting and disrupted the flow of the story. I don't recommend Bitter Harvest. If I didn't have to write a paper on it, I would have stopped reading about 50 pages in. My only consolation after having read this book it is that, since my professor liked this it so much, my research paper can be full of pointless filler and I'll probably get a good grade.

Review: I have been a fan of Ann Rule for many years. Part of theinterest I have in her books is the detailed account of the investigation. Some may find that less interesting than the events that inspired the story. I think that is what makes her books very distinctive. I found Bitter Harvest to be another fantastic book by Ann Rule. I couldn't stand to put it down. I found myself racing home from work in the evening just to find out what would happen next. I can't wait for her next book!

Review: I love Ann Rule. I've read several of her books. This,however, was not one of her best. It was interesting, but analytical as I'm sure it had to be to explain the effects of the Castor Oil bean and techniques used to detect arson. I prefer books that focus more on the characters. This story was a tragedy but I didn't find myself getting "into" the story like I did " The Stranger Beside Me." Better luck next time Ann!
