Summary: White man keepin' the brother down...again.
Review: I finished Deadline in three days, which is a fast pace for me, and I loved it. I then rushed out to the library and checked out Dominion, thinking that it would be just as good. It's not.
In this modern world of blame everthing on the white man - there is no need to take responsibility for your own actions, I find this tiring! My only solace is that "racism" has been called so often over recent years that it is only taken seriously when it actually exists - as opposed to a few years ago, when if a minority called someone a racist is was taken for granted as being a fact, and if you questioned the label in a particular instance, you were called racist too.
The worst part of this book is when the protagonist from Deadline, Jake, has the audacity to apologize for the prepetuation of racism. It reminded me of a few years ago when Martin Sheen apologized to Japan for the us dropping the bomb on them in WW2.
Alcorn's writing is fantasitic, and if you want to read something by him read Deadline. Dominion is just too full of white guilt.

Summary: Hard to get into, but worth staying with.
Review: I had read Alcorn's DEADLINE and could not put it down. This novel was difficult to get into and seemed a little "preachy" at first. Clarence had a major chip on his shoulder, which annoyed me at times, but I must admit that it made me think about the racism (subtle and otherwise) that still exists in America. If you look at reading this book as an educational experience, Alcorn's forays into history and politics, and his occasional sermonizing won't be so distracting. I'm grateful for the things it opened my eyes to, but I think the "Reader's Digest Condensed Version" would be a better read.

Summary: EYE OPENING!!!
Review: I have never had my life changed as much as it has after I read The Dominion!! I am white and was raised in a very sheltered "white world". But I always knew there was more to life than what I was living and more to the african-american people around me. This book has certainly taught me about a culture I had no idea about through its honesty and historical facts and biblical basis. Im recommending this book to all my friends of all races and colors in hopes that we can come to terms with our sameness and realize we are all children of God...and that folks is all that matters!! Hurry out now and buy this book if u have not done so!! You will laugh, cry, and re-evaluate ur life after reading it!! Thank you Mr. Alcorn! Ill be looking forward to another Clarence and Jake book. Perhaps its time for Ollie and Manny to come to Christ!!!

Summary: A most awsome novel.
Review: I just finished reading "The Dominion" by Randy Alcorn, and cannot truly think of another novel that has so profoundly touched me. I have recommended it to many people, even as I traversed the convoluted path taken by Clarence Abernathy as he traveled from grief and soul-searching to peace with his fellow man and God. Alcorn's insights into the African-American experience, and the human experience in general is fantastic. His characters are 3-dimensional and real, and his depictions of family refreshing. He propels the reader from the depths of crime and depravity into the cathedrals of Heaven itself. All I can say is, WOW. Now I must read Alcorn's other fiction work, "Deadline"!

Summary: THIS BOOK CHANGED MY LIFE
Review: I just picked this book up one night because I was bored. Little did I know that I would never be the same again. This book totally revolutionized the way I think about race relations. I lived around only black people, and I (who am white) was the one living in a minority. However, I knew that I would soon be returning to a place where it would be the opposite situation. This book helped deal with the complex relationships that would ensue. On top of that, this book has one of the best mystery plot lines I have ever read. After reading it three times, I still like it. It should be required reading for anyone, from high school age to adult.

Summary: Best Book I have ever read!
Review: I love John Grisham and Michael Crichton and I thought nobody could top anything they wrote! Well I was wrong. Dominion was one of the most powerful books I have ever read. The main character Clarence just grows on you. The issues in this book are superb and make you really think. Especially the issue on Racism. This book lets us see the issue in a whole new light. This is a must read for anyone! I hope to see some more excellent novels from Randy Alcorn.

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: I love to read christian fiction and having never heard of Randy Alcorn, I decided to pick it up and read the cover. It intrigued me and I went on to buy it. While reading this book I kept telling everyone about this "great new black christian author". I was so very surprised to find out that Randy Alcorn was not black. He captured the life and trials of the African-American experience so well. It was so real for me that I felt everything the characters were feeling. The portholes of heaven were great in imagining all those gone on before us that are now "so great a cloud of witnesses".

Summary: Dominion
Review: I loved 'Deadline' and found Alcorn's next work of fiction, 'Dominion' even better! His gift for making the reader feel what the characters feel is great. This book gave me suspense, spiritual insight and a greater understanding of racial differances. I can not thank my best friend Amy enough for turning me on to these books!

Summary: Not His Best
Review: I loved The Ishbane Conspiracy and Safely Home, but Dominion is a big disppointment so far. Admittedly, I'm only halfway through, but it has been torturous. If you want a book about God, this is not it. Read his others. This book is about racism and slavery.
