Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I thought that this book was fantastic but at some parts it was hard to understand the book. Other than that the book was 4 Stars!
Rating: Summary: A REAL CLASSIC!!! Review: It's amazing what a book can do to your thoughts about life! This phenomenal story of a boy growing up in rural America, takes your breath away! This book will make you laugh and cry. It will fill you with many thoughts about yourself and your future that you have never had before. From the start of this story until the end, I must admit, many scenes were incredibly disgusting. I am not the kind of person who likes to read about gross things, and when I was reading this book, I really didn't like it at all. But, in the end, when I finished it, I found myself really understanding and liking what I had read. There might have been a lot of horrible things discribed in this book, but the truth is, that was how life was in rural America. That was how,Rob, a 13 year old boy, lived. This book is definitely different, and I bet many readers will put it down after the first few pages. But, I beg of you not to, because in the end the book will touch your heart. You will learn many things from this book. It makes you think about a whole new way of living. It makes you look at your choices and opportunities in life, your future, and yourself. I recomend this book for everyone. A Day No Pigs Will Die, is a story you'll never forget!
Rating: Summary: I had no emotions for the characters in this book. Review: Although I admire Robert Pecks's effort, I was not satisfied with this book. I hardly felt any emotions for the characters, and I had to force myself to finish the book. There is no definite plotline-- the entire book is like a journal that the main character wrote. There were hardly any significant events, and I do not think the Shaker way of life was portrayed in its true sense. After the climax, the main character suddenly matures from a foolish boy to a well respected man. I find this unbelievable, and I do not think that the book developed itself evenly, if at all. My last comment is the fact that this book is so uneventful, it leaves unsatisfied.
Rating: Summary: Peck at his best. Review: I love this book. It is a book that you could read again and again, and every time you will find a different moral.
Rating: Summary: I read this book and it touched me cause of the ending Review: It is about this boy who lives by the Shaker Law. And one day his father dies, and this boy has to run the farm and take care of his mother and aunt Mattie who is like 60. And if you get a chance to read it go right ahead. I am 12yrs. old. And I didn't want to read it at first but when I did I liked it.
Rating: Summary: It Could Be Better Review: This is not one of my favorites. There's no magic in it, no love, no fantasy. It is so dull. A kid gets a pig and it's really sad at the end. It starts out dull and ends out sad. I don't reccomend this book to any reader!
Rating: Summary: This is a story of a boy and his father. Review: I thought this was a great book about a boy named Rob and his father. Rob gets a pig in thanks of helping his neighbors cow give birth to her calvs. He soon grows very found of Pinky (his pig) but acording to the Shaker ways Rob can not own this pig if she doesn't have a poupers. I thought this was a touching story between Rob, his father, and his pig. I couldn't put it down!! It is a little confusing if you don't know a little about the history of the Shakers so I would sugest to study a little before reading this book.
Rating: Summary: It is about a boy living on the farm with his pet pig Review: Michael Rosenstein Core B 10/12/98 Review of the book Book Review of A Day No Pigs Would Die Robert Newton Peck has written a moving story called A Day No Pigs Would Die. It is about a teenage boy named Robert who lives on a farm and has a pig as a pet. This is somewhat awkward because pigs are usually used as food on farms. The head of the farm, Mr. Tanner, asked Robert to take care of the pig because its mom was eating the litter. The story develops and describes the experiences of Robert and the pig, which he names Pinky. It is evident that the pig has a great impact of the boy's life. Robert Newton Peck is a capable and convincing writer. His easy-to-read style helps to bring the story alive. The author is very descriptive. He describes the setting and the events well. The reader could feel the same feeling as the boy. The author also developed his characters well. The reader felt very attached to the characters, including the pig, and emotional about what happens in this story. In the beginning of the book, the story is a bit slow. There is little action through the middle of the book. The story builds and becomes interesting late in the book. At this point, the story begins to capture the reader's attention. There is a tragic ending. Despite some of the flaws of the book, I would recommend this story to animal lovers who can handle tragic endings.
Rating: Summary: The Day No Pigs Would Die Is Sweet!! Review: This is a very good book. It is very sad in it's ways and it can cause faltness. I was very interested in this book that my teachers couldn't get me to stop reading this book in class. Don't get me wrong I hate to read but when I read this book I was very interested about what would happen next. When I found out I was very sad and it was then that I found out that no matter how much a human loves an animal it can still do harm. I gave it a 5 star because it was excilent!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful, funny, sad, thought-provoking MUST read. Review: This coming-of-age novel about a young Depression- era Shaker boy from Vermont is a book I have read over and over again with many classes and recommended for independent reading as well. Many students have found it to be one of the best books they have ever read. Although difficult to read sometimes because of the rural setting, Shaker lifestyle, and the dialect of an uneducated family, it's well worth the effort. It's also short--for some, the only first criteria!
