Summary: Start a new Christmas Eve family tradition
Review: Sweet, touching Christmas stories, perfect for reading aloud to both young and old family members every Christmas Eve. I recommend this book to all who find Christmas a special time, and to those who are perhaps searching for the "special" in a Christmas that has become all too stressful and impersonal in our too busy world.

Summary: Stories of Loving Kindness
Review: The characters in Steve Burt's stories are people we've all known at one point or another in our lives, and they never fail to bring up memories and emotions we thought were long forgotten. Steve has a way of getting inside his characters and allowing us to know them in the most basic way: laughing, crying, hoping and praying with them. The constant underlying theme in all his stories is the joy of loving kindness.

Summary: Truly touching Christmas stories!
Review: The stories in Steve Burt's "Christmas Dozen" are truly touching! While each of the 12 short stories have a unique focus and setting, together they convey the spirit of joy and hopefulness of Christmas. Amidst the hustle and bustle that the holiday season usually brings, the stories will remind readers of the true meaning of Christmas. Give this book to everyone on your Christmas list!

Summary: a heartwarming collection
Review: This book encapsulates the true meaning of Christmas! I've been a longtime fan of Burt's stories and always look forward to them in the Peconic Bay Shopper year after year. How wonderful to have them all together in a genuinely heartwarming collection. Perfect for those cozy holiday gatherings around the fire and a jewel that should be passed on for generations to come. So, hoist up your eggnogs and give a big toast to Steve Burt, a true inspiration.

Summary: O Henry, move over!
Review: This book is wonderful! What a discovery, what a gift to receive at Christmas! And not one of those with one or two good ones in a batch of twelve, but all good ones! You read a story, choke up a little, set the book aside. Later on, you go back and digest another. And that's the way it is, one at a time (loving it), one at a time (loving it), one at a time (loving it). And then you've gone through twelve incredibly touching, moving short stories, and you wish you had more. Why haven't we discovered this guy's work before? Hope he writes more short fiction, and maybe a few novels. More, more, please. O Henry, move over!

Summary: A wonderful gift ANY time of year!
Review: This collection of holiday stories is the best I've ever read. They're simple enough for children to understand but so moving and well-written that adults of any age will cherish them. Don't let the title of the book fool you; these stories are great to read (or give as a gift) any time of year. Steve Burt certainly lives up to his reputation as "Storyteller of the Heart." I can't wait for the next collection!

Summary: Author's own comments
Review: This is the audiobook version of the bestselling Nov-Dec 2000 paperback. Since I've been the one who's gone around reading my Christmas stories on radio and in churches and senior centers, it only made sense for me to be the one to read on the double CD and double Cassette versions (2 1/2 hours of great, touching stories). To see an extensive list of customer reviews, check the paperback version.

Summary: Author's own comments
Review: This is the audiobook version of the paperback which was such a "sleeper" bestseller in Nov-Dec 2000. Since my vocation has been to go around and do a read-aloud program of my Christmas stories in churches, senior centers, and on radio, it only made sense for me to be the one to do the double CD and double Cassette versions (2 1/2 hours of 12 great stories). Summary: Captures the meaning and spirit of Christmas!
Review: This man has captured the meaning and spirit of Christmas in twelve very different short stories, none of them preachy in the least. Several are up there with O Henry's "Gift of the Magi". These are stories that bring you to tears, but not just for the sake of crying--they MOVE your very spirit, awaken you to the presence of the divine "Other" in the world as seen through human actions and interactions. And I've been fortunate enough to also hear the author share some of these at his public readings (he reads 4-5 stories every night in Nov & Dec at churches, senior centers, and civic groups), and that in itself is one heck of a life-changing experience. It's such a wonderful Christmas gift that I saw people pick up 10 or 15 copies apiece at readings, wanting to share this word-of-mouth treasure with others. I have no doubt the secret is out, and this book will climb up there with Richard Paul Evans' THE CHRISTMAS BOX in 2001. This is an almost certain bestseller. I sure hope so, because if this minister can spend more time writing stories and perhaps novels, our society will really be enriched by his future contributions. Great, great stuff! But A CHRISTMAS DOZEN is like those chips about which they used to say, "Betcha can't eat just one." This is better than Chicken Soup.
