Rating: Summary: Cure Yourself Herbally Review: Much like her journalism style, Carper has written a clear-cut text on the variety of ways we can create Miracles for ourselves. I purchased this book earlier last summer and have found it to be a wealth of information as well as advice I can depend on. She has shown the link between herbal/vitamin/natural remedies and science despite the constant "warnings" from the pharmaceutical corporations we all hear and read. I have long been a proponent of healing myself and taking supplements that enhance my body's ability to keep the effects of aging at bay. Several years ago I found a site, iHerbLtd. that has such a tremendous job at supplying me with the herbs and supplements I need. Between iHerb and Carper's book, I'm in good hands--my own!

Rating: Summary: this book is total review of herbs, supportive to nature!! Review: The herbs are the total desire in books and talks about how perfectly nature always supports us. The author is totally on the positive side of these herbal remedies. If one doesn't believe in miracles, this is the book to learn and review about herbs and natural support. The book talks about the overall weakness of america on the part of fame and overconfidence about their medical strength.

Rating: Summary: A bona-fide life-saver! Jean Carper, you've done it again! Review: This book is an excellent tool in combating some of the major and minor health problems which man is prone to. I am excited about the revelation of Kudzu to curb the craving for booze, which I am afflicted to. I also suffer from gout, which is a misery to a former distance runner, and now maybe I can get back on the road. Buyers can be sure that they will get their money's worth many times over if they buy, read, and heed this important health book.

Rating: Summary: The Science behind the "magic" Review: This is an excellent book. It introduces people to the idea that natural medicine can be effective and scientifically viable at the same time. What I found really useful in this work is her emphasis on all of the scientific studies which have been done in Europe. By so doing, the author explodes the myth that natural medicine is voodoo medicine, with no scientific merit to recommend it.The author also presents the material in an objective and nonsensationalistic manner. This helps keep the remedies in perspective. False hope is not given is not fostered, but the healing powers of the remedies she covers are presented in an even-handed manner. My only criticism of the book is the emphasis on tablets. This is not bad per se, but I would have liked to see a description of foods which contain some of the substances found in these remedies. For example, in speaking of vitamin E, or calcium, it would have been nice to have a list of foods which contain decent quantities of these substances. Despite this criticism, however, I highly recommend this work to anyone who is interested in natural remedies. No matter how much you know, or think you know, this book will open your eyes to a new world of possibility and science.

Rating: Summary: I needed more stars Review: This sounds like another new agey book but it's not. Jean Carper is a nutritionist with a solid background.
The vitamins and herbs listed in the book are great. Her research is good and she lists case studies from here in the US and Europe for all of the chapters.
My favorite chapter was on grapeseed oil (pychogenol). This is listed as a blood vessel strengthener primarily. It is one of the most powerful antioxidants known, according to some research 50 times stronger than vitamin E. In France it is used to treat varicose veins. For some it has proven helpful for treating macular degeneration. European studies have also shown that it surpresses the release of histamine. I am allergic to non-bearing mulberry trees and have asthma in the spring when they bloom. I tried the Tru-OCP that is available here and it works like a dream. It has also been used for ADD and ADHD although there have been no formal studies yet.
The natural remedies she covers here are; COQ-10, St. John's Wort, Ginkgo, Grapefruit fiber, Feverfew, Glucosamine, Echinacea, Valerian, Milk Thistle, Bee Pollen, Ginger, Kava, Kudzu, omega-3's, Saw Palmetto, Celery and Cherry juice, Licorice, Grape Seed, Peppermint oil, Vitamins C and E, Diet and Supplements for cancer therapy.
It is interesting, easy to read and contains lots of usable information
