Summary: Raptor Red will hook you with her claws and never let go!
Review: Raptor Red starts off when the main character, (female Velociraptor) Raptor Red is hunting with her mate. When they finally spot their unaware prey they charge and trap the large beast in an oil pit. After a victorious war against the beast they overlooked one thing. They are still in the oil pit, the raptors finally notice somethings wrong. Just as they are aware the mighty but dead beast's knees lock and the lifeless body plummits into the dark oil. While the male raptor struggles to jump to safety, Raptor Red gets to land and watches her mate get swallowed by the black oil.

The book follows Raptor Red through her trials and tribulations in her confusing and devestaing world. Through the book you will also meet some new and some old friends of Raptor Red.

Summary: The rapture of the raptor!
Review: I never thought I could identify with a dinosour. You actually feel as if you are prey and predetor. It was not to long ago that this author was laughed at by main stream palentologist. His critics may not be extinct-but they are more rare. This is a great read from a unique perspective.

Summary: Raptor Red is just a girl-gets-guy kind of story.
Review: Raptor Red is hatched in prehistoric Europe and later migrates to America via the Bering Strait. But as soon as our lady arrives in the Utah area, things go terribly awry. Her all-important mate gets squashed by dinner one day and Miss Red is suddenly alone in a world full of gargantuan beasts who'd just as soon kill her as look at her. Now what's a beautiful but deadly single girl to do? Luck has its place in Cretaceous times, though, and eight-year-old Raptor Red finds one of her sisters, who apparently has also been widowed since she has three chicks and no mention is made of a mister. They take up housekeeping together and Red finds a new beau--but sis can't stand him. Paleontologist Robert Bakker breaks new ground with his first novel and does an excellent job, writing it from the velociraptor's point of view and making the reader feel for the dino which has become moviedom's main villain since 1993's Jurassic Park was released. What is probably most amazing is that this book is the culmination of a study done on the Utahraptor bones discovered after Spielberg invented the creature in his blockbuster movie. Bakker's only flaw is his inability to believe that lay persons know anything about dinosaurs, or animals in general. In his zeal to make sure the reader understands, he overdoes the explanations for certain actions on the part of the dino stars. All in all, though, a definite must for those who like to read about animals especially from their point of view.

Summary: Raptor Red will grab you by it's claws!
Review: Robert Bakker has done what few have done before, created a believable and fantastic book based on the life of a Dinosaur, in fact, I can't think of anybody else who has written one! Raptor Red is simply a terrific book, totally believable, and chock-full of accurate scientific information. The main character is Raptor Red, a female Utahraptor, who will make you believe she is real, the book will grab you by it's claws and won't let go until you've finished. Fact and fiction have combined to create a wondeful story which any Dinoasaur fan shouldn't miss! Bakker has a unique way of "sneaking" some 'ancient history lessons' into his book here and there, so you're taught as you read, and entertained, I highly reccomend this book to everybody!!

Summary: Ho Hum
Review: Sorry, but Bob's book, "Dinosaur Heresies," is his best work to date and shows his great artwork and wonderful theories. Raptor Red is a bunch of fiction without dialog about an animal with a pea brain (Smarter than a brontosaur but dumber than a house cat). It drags and is best suited for curing insomnia. Buy his other book and be entertained.

Summary: Raptor Red is a great book, and here's why.
Review: The book is about a female Utah Raptor who calls herself Raptor Red. Raptor Red is an adventure novel, with many parts that you just have to stop to cry, laugh.... or both. Such as "Wackitty, wack... Not good to eat, but fun to play with." You can learn alot from it, but in a fun way. This book is a must-see! ~Jennifer K.

Summary: It's like he was inside the mind of the dinosour
Review: I can not belive how REAL this seams. It sounds more like sience Fact then if it was made up. If i didnt know any better i could swear that he accually lived as that utah raptor and had all of those awsome advetures

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: The book is awsome. The tape is abridged crap.
Review: Raptor Red is a great book. See my review from 6/97. The audio tape concentrates only on the passages that deal with Raptor Red herself. The vivid picture that Bakker painted is lost in the merchandising. Skip it and buy the book.

Summary: excellent adventure story
Review: a charming and imaginative story with a solid scientific foundation. Raptor red is a true heroine, and while anthropomorphised to a degree, is still totally believable. Some gorgeous touches, such as Red's cat-like curiosity and her love of beautiful colours. Not for the high and dry scientific mind, but a story I have read to my children and read several times with pleasure myself

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The book is very educational.
Review: Raptor Red is an excellent book to read. You get the feeling of what it is like to be a Utah Raptor. I recommend this book for people that love the Dromaeosaurids or in plain English Raptors.
