Summary: read this:
Review: If you don't like this book, you have really poor taste! I think that this book is good and realistic because it doesn't have a main theme like some kids books, but it shows the life of a dinosaur. and has some interesting characters. It seems to me that everyone either absolutely loves it, or absolutely hates it, with very little in-betweens. First of all, you have to be a pretty good reader if you're a kid. It comes to my attention that a lot of people who hate this book seem to be kids. Anyway... if you're not sure if you're the right person for this book, look at all the reviews, and figure out if you're closer in personality to the people who hate this book, or the people who like it.

Summary: a thouroughly fascinating narrative
Review: This book was a real page turner. I was completely wrapped up in the romantic story of these magnificent animals struggle to survive in a difficult and savage world. Bakker gives his characters real depth and creates a world so vivid that I could imagine being there. "Raptor Red" is a landmark accomplishment in popular science literature.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I'd give it more stars than 5!!
Review: I thought this book was really awesome! I first heard the audio tape on a trip to FL. I thought it was really good and not too long after that, my dad bought it for me. I've read it over and over. I think it's pretty cool what Bakker did, what with it not having dialoge and all. The animal talking stuff can get old if you read enough books with that in it. Bakker just tells it as it is, he tells us what's happening and what Raptoer Red thinks. I think it's a refreshing way to read. I really feel like I'm back in prehistoric times, hunting right there with the raptors.

Summary: Exciting Point of View of Life as a Raptor......Very Real!
Review: This book captures your imagination of being a raptor, living, surviving day to day. Very exciting, you become the raptor itself and your imagination takes you there! Well written! Read it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book had a great flip-side view of dinosaurs.
Review: Bakker had written a book that anyone could read, as long as they knew who darwin was and did. He revolutionised they way most people thought about dinosaurs, and reinforced my beliefs. Now I feel that I am no longer alone. Since a 13-year-old is usually only be so smart, I find it very hard for me to discuss my mind in real life with anyone else. Dinosaurs were once intelligent creatures. We only consider them slow and dumb, because they died off. If we were hit by a meteor right now we would go extinct as well.

Summary: Wonderful. . .simply wonderful
Review: I loved the book and thought it was very entertaining. It was very unique and although I was at first afraid that it would be extrememly boring with no dialoge. . .I quickly got caught up in the novel and couldn't put it down. . .I recommend this book for anyone interested in dinosaurs and even those not so much interested in them. . .it's a really good book. . .read it

Summary: This is the best animal story out there.
Review: This book is not one of those little children's stories were the animals talk and sing and such. Robert T. Bakker tells his story of a female raptor and her fate, without using the crazy talking animal type approach. He tells it as if he was actually standing right next to The animals, recording all that they do. And he makes you feel like you are there too. This book is a MUST have for your library.

Summary: Great premise, disappointing book
Review: Baker tried to bite off more than he can chew. He began with a great premise; present a dinosaur's story without romanticizing and "Disneyfing" it.

But it takes a great writer to be able to write an engaging book which uses an animal's limited pallette of emotions. Unfortunately, I do not believe Bakker is that author. The characters are uneffecting and the events are unexciting. This book has no driving narrative and becomes a pointless prehistoric travelogue.

After reading this book, I don't feel like I have any better understanding of what a dinosaur's life might have been like.

On the other hand, it is still ten times better than Jurasic Park.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Informative and exciting, a perfect book
Review: When Jurrasic Park hit the theaters, it stunned and excited the moviegoing public. The tyrannasaurous rex, the most popular dinosaur, was depicted as a dangerous and ferocious animal, unstoppable and invincible. But the real star of the movie wasn't the T-Rex. For his movie, Steven Spielberg introduced an even more terrifying and ferocious dinosaur, the velociraptor. The velociraptor gave Jurrasic park the real momentum it needed to soar to the top, becoming a huge hit. What some people don't know is that Spielberg made the velociraptor much bigger than it was in reality. This departure from realism worried some working on the movie, until an amazing discovery was made. The first fossil of a giant raptor was found while the movie was being filmed. Paleontoligists named it Utahraptor. This is the remarkable species of predators that this equally remarkable book is about. Robert Bakker's book, Raptor Red, has been compared to Jurrasic Park. However, I disagree with that comparison. While Jurrasic Park focuses more on the science and the desperate struggle to survive against superior predators, Raptor Red gives us a look into the mind of a female Utahraptor. It shows the reader what Utahraptor society was probably like, by analyzing the behavior of wolves and eagles. It shows us how the Utahraptors hunted in groups. And it also shows us how intelligent, cunning, and efficient these amazing superpredators were. The book begins with a thrilling account of a Utahraptor hunting expedition, which draws the reader in and refuses to let go. When Red rejoins her sister, the complexity of Utahraptor society is shown beautifully. I'm sure every reader will enjoy Raptor Red's intelligence, ingenuity, and inquisitivness as she explores her world, fighting off larger and more powerful allocanthosaurus and smaller but more numerous dynonychs. With the unique blend of action and information, this book will capture any reader from the first page, and hold on to them, not just to the last page, but beyond. Even after having reading it twice, one cannot expierience any boredom. I highly recommend this book to everyone. You don't have to be dinosaur fan to enjoy such a good book.

Summary: Simply incredible!!
Review: This is one of the most emotionally provocative titles I have ever read. It's intelligent, witty, interesting, and deeply moving. I read it over and over, and have grown to love the heroine. I'm not joking when I say that this may very well be my all-time favorite book (and I read a lot!). forget dinosaur nuts, I reccomend this to EVERYONE!
