Rating: Summary: Bad book alert! Review: This book is too far fetched to be taken seriously. I could almost buy some of the crap that takes place, but the author mangles his technical details so badly that it scares me that he was allegedly a former cop. He doesn't know the difference between a MYLAR (!) vest and a Kevlar vest. The hero asks for a mylar vest to protect him. Hello! Details of most of the weapons are also wrong. Huggins confuses the Franchi-Spas (a lousy weapon) with the Striker 12 and clones in capacity. (Hint, pros use the Benelli.) Bullet weights on .45 slugs are also wrong, as are the perfomance characteristics of the Grizzly. The characters are not horribly well done either. Might make a tolerable movie if it is produced right. Otherwise...
Rating: Summary: WOW!!!! Review: You'd think that a combination of Die Hard, Dracula, the Omen, and Armageddon would be horrible as a novel. I would think this way too... until after I read Cain. This may be the best sci-fi/horror novel that I have ever read, with the exception of Brian Lumely's vampire novels. If you loved Cain, I urge you to read Lumely's books, because there's the same aura of pure evil and apocalyptic terror in his Necroscope series as in this book. Once again, GOOD JOB HIGGINS!!!!
Rating: Summary: Cain by James Byron Huggins is captivating. Review: This book is so captivating to put it down was just about impossible. It was well researched as I noticed certian issues that are extremly accurate. If I were to recommend any book it would be this one. I give it a definit thumbs up with a 5 star rating.
Rating: Summary: I've read a lot of books, and this one is my favorite. Review: This book may not be the BEST book I have ever read, but it is definately my favorite. Right from page one I was captivated. And isn't that the important thing? It doesn't have to be Shakespeare. If you have an interest in religious horror tales, or even if you don't, then you'll love the background for this story. It even inspired me to do some research. I was almost mad when I finished it because I was so enthralled. If you want to read a good action/fantasy with a good story to boot, here's one for you.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling on edge never ending excitement Review: My first reading of Huggins work. Where have I been? If all his books are of this caliber then we have a best selling novelist in the making. Pure excitement and action. I would love to see this one on the big screen. I can't wait to read the other books Huggins has written.
Rating: Summary: Non-stop action!! Review: I loved this book! It seems that Mr. Huggins wrote it with a motion picture deal in mind, but it is awesome, nevertheless. I can't wait to see the movie, (if there is going to be one made). The only thing I found a little bit lacking was the ending, but I'd sincerely recommend this book to anybody who likes to read action novels. It is so well written that you can almost picture every scene in your mind, and I just love to read books like that. I'll be sure to read Mr. Huggins' other works as well.
Rating: Summary: Huggins' greatest book to date! Review: I have never given a book a "10" rating before, but that was because I had never read one that couldn't use a little work - until now. "Cain" grabs you from the beginning and blows you away! The action is fast and furious, with just the right amount of "down time" to let you calm down before the bullets and bodies fly again! The fight sequence between Cain and Solomon on the freeway is one of the best ever written. Huggins has always been my favorite author because of the professional quality of his work. "Cain" just adds to that quality while surpassing his previous novels. If this is the first Huggins book you've read, you might as well order his others too because by the time you've finished this one, you'll be hungry for more.
Rating: Summary: A Gripping Novel that leaves you wanting more Review: If you are a Huggins fan then this book will not disappoint you. If is a combination of Leviathan and The Reckoning rolled into one. The book was an attention grabber from the start. I recommend you read it with the lights on.
Rating: Summary: A Wannabe of Daniel Easterman? Review: I could only put this novel into the alternative sci-fi-horror fiction. Huggins might have derieved certain large portion of scenario and style from the uptodated Daniel Easterman and/or the old David Morrell but with more pretentious writing technique. Try to check out all of Easterman's(all of it) and Morrell's earlier works, then you might agree with what I hinted.
Rating: Summary: Huggins Hits Hard Review: "Cain" is another great thriller. Huggins doesn't disappoint with this book, however, it does display a certain sameness to his other storylines (e.g., "The Reckoning," "Leviathan"). Huggins also continues to overuse the words "roared" and "enraged" in the action sequences. There is a departure from his last books (which were aimed at the Christian market) in that this time he throws in some profanity and vulgar expressions...so if you are buying this book as a gift or are offended by such language, be forewarned.
