Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK GIVES NEW MEANING TO RAISING CAIN! Review: This is my 1st book I have read from this author and it was truly one of the best reads out there today. If you like lots of action/adventure mixed in with a type of religious horror, this ones for you! Cain was a very interesting character and seeing how he would be brought down was exciting to say the least. I already purchased two of his other books - HUNTER and RECKONING, and will definately buy all his others. His characters were all interesting and the storyline never is boring or slow - its either fast or HIGH OCTANE! This author deserves to be a bestseller. If his books are made into hollywood movies, look out for it, because if they are made right, there is no doubt they will be blockbuster movies that make millions. This CAIN story has movie written all over it but I don't see who could play the Cain character, this guy would make Shwarzenegger look like a baby! Shwarzenegger would be perfect for the role of Solomon though because the guy was pretty super-human himself, to me Bruce Willis could not pull that off. Cain could be done in pure CGI form, now that would be a 1st and awesome in movie history. But read this book because it has lots of hours of enjoyment in it. I can't wait to read his other books, and I will review them as I finish them. A must read folks!
Rating: Summary: First time Huggin's reader, definitely not dissapointed Review: A freind recomended this book to me, I was hesitant to read it when I read the synopsis but I found it to be a great book. I like the idea of pitting old time legends against modern day technology. The religous references were a little off from the Bible, but that didn't make this any less enjoyable. This novel is a great read.
Rating: Summary: The ultimate fight between good and evil! Review: I picked up this book on a whim and realized that the author was one of the best in the business. CAIN is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. Its fast pace and religious references are enjoyable. I would suggest this book to anyone!
Rating: Summary: An action movie made into a novel Review: How to put this? 'Cain' is what an action movie should be, but is a novel instead. At least four separate set pieces with a car chase, mass damage, heroic stunts, mass slaughter, and the final battle involving very large explosions, this is what you look for for excitement and thrill, but not exactly deep observations about humankind. A good use of various allusions through names like Cain - the first killer, Solomon - the son of King David who beat a previous incarnation of the Devil, and Milton - Paradise Lost. Problems with it are that it's so typical and pat. Solomon is a more or less flawless superman, he lost his wife and daughter but hooks up with a scientist and her daughter, the world is going to end in one of several different ways if Solomon doesn't save it, etc. Not sterling literary work either. Every other adjective describing Cain has to do with his "volcanic" strength. Byron uses the same descriptions over and over again. The most interesting characters are actually the Jesuit priest and Cain himself - a villain with a brain and the occasional philosphic musing. Everything else is just old hat, but a very amusing old hat. Final judgement - read it for the fabulous action and interesting villain, with a bonus for use of mythology. Don't read it if you're looking for literary content. (Still, don't mean to be harsh. I liked it and read it pretty quickly.)
Rating: Summary: Simple but SO WHAT?!? Review: NO, it isn't Shakespeare, Hemingway, or even Ludlum, but big deal! If you want to just escape into a great read, this is the book to do it with. Definitely formulaic but entertaining to the hilt with non-stop action. I read to escape into another world, and CAIN transported me there as sure as the space shuttle could have. If anyone out there knows any other action writers as good as Huggins, please email me with their names and particular novels you recommend.
Rating: Summary: Cain is a great action novel. Keeps you on the edge. Review: what ever you do, don"t stop reading. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat. As soon as I picked it up I knew that I was hooked. Don't be fooled by those critics, Cain is the best book out!
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: The moment I read the first page of Cain I knew it was going to be a page-turner. Te depiction of cain and his power is incredible, and Huggins did an excellent job of describing the fierocity of the tyrant. If you are into action, READ THIS BOOK! It is a masterpiece, and should be looked at by everyone for its quality.
Rating: Summary: Good action/adventure but not Huggin's best Review: Solomon is a little bit too powerful for a human being. Anyone else that comes up against Cain is killed instantly, but Solomon is able to physically withstand without really any "super powers". Too many cuss words to recommend to my peers. Why does Huggins equate Catholic priests with spirituality/Christianity in Reckoning and Cain? Not to say they can't be but how about describing someone who has a personal relationship with JC. Great ending - I never expected the monster to be destroyed that way, and great message behind that, too. This book kept me intrigued and was a good story. I guess I must not be as critical or discerning as other readers.
Rating: Summary: Hollywood's Novel Review: To sum it up, Cain is a very good book, but it is a hollywood book-nothing bad about that mind you. It is filled with action, alittle gore, alittle pain, alittle love, and of course Sidekicks Galor! But all in all, the book delivers with a relatively understandable storyline and great characters-also tippy hollywood types, but hey, aside from that, it is a terrific Book.
Rating: Summary: what a letdown Review: As a die-hard Huggins fan in his Wolf Story, Reckoning, and Leviathan hey-days, I was bitterly disappointed. Huggins, while remaining a brilliant fiction master, dropped all pretense of his former spirituality, and proceeded to please the secular market with all disregard to the Christian fans who got him going. Good writer, good hypocrite. Huggins was good while he lasted. If you really want a good read, try The Reckoning. It gives the thrills without the profanity.
