Summary: good book from a christain writer
Review: i read this book because a friend told me about it and said it was pretty good (thanx jonathan). luckily jonathan was right. this book was a page turner. yes it doesn't make you think and it's not a masterpiece but, it's all action and it never gets boring.if you want an action/ thriller novel that doesn't have swearing and sex in it, then this is a novel for you

Summary: Pittsburgh Reader
Review: I purchased the hardcopy of this book with the expectation that I was in store for an intelligent, thought provoking joy ride - I was quite disappointed. The writing was choppy and the author had a habit of using one adjective over and over for several pages and then dropping it for another adjective to use repeatedly for the next few pages. The premise of the story was gripping and perhaps my expectations were too high, however, the yarn was not adequately spun on this tale.

Summary: The power of evil unleashed against the forces of good
Review: CAIN is a thrill ride of a book from page 1 till the end. I enjoyed the characters of Solomon and Father Marcelle. Satan as an invulnerable demonic super soldier is such a great idea that I could see why Bruce Willis bought the rights to this book. CAIN is a long read but a good read as well. I would recommend this to horror as well as sci-fi fans. The underlying theme was the power of faith and how it will overcome all. Of course there is great sacrifice involved but what a great story.

Summary: Stale Characters+Predictable Plot- What More Could I Ask For
Review: I don't think Cain will be winning any awards, but I gave it five stars anyway because I've read it three times and I enjoy it every time. Cain is one of those familiar books that I can just take out on an airplane and start reading from any point I like. If you don't put too high a price on your time, then read it.

Summary: YAWN
Review: Cain = an indestructable techno-vampire Solomon=a carbon-copy character that could fit into any formulaic 80's action film. Speaking of formulaic, that's the best way to describe the plot. Good idea for a book, and the character of Cain was cool, but the rest of this book is garbage.

Summary: ACTION GALORE
Review: THIS IS THE TYPE OF BOOK DEAN KOONTZ USED TO WRITE BEFORE HE DECIDED TO WRITE THE GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL. LOADED WITH ACTION AND GREAT CHARACTERS, MR. HUGGINS HAS BECOME ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS. ALL HIS BOOKS ARE FIVE STAR.

Summary: Cain
Review: This book is great, i have read it about 6 times, I have also used it as a report 2 or 3 times in school. I am in the 9th grade, this I think is my all time favorite book. The book uses action and suspense to keep you interested. It is one of those books you just can't put down. The plot is very intricate and catchy. I think that whoever rated this book for Amazon.com should be hurt becuase he/she doesn't know a good book when he/she reads one. I think if you like constant action, and a great story line then you should read it.

Summary: This is an all action "romp". I have read it 3 times.
Review: It is about Cain a super soldier possesed by Satan. If that wasn't bad enough he has been built to be impervious to all modern weapons and must drink human blood to stay alive. Soloman is an ex-soldier who is persuaded to come back to kill Cain. Marcelle, an Exorcist, helps Sol in his battle against Cain. It reads like an action film, right down to bonding between Sol and the scientist who created Cain's daughter. But don't let this put you off, it is an extremly good book which also contains some very interesting detail about exorcisim. READ THIS BOOK!! (I would have given it 10 stars but they would'nt let me.)

Summary: The action scenes are great, but the writing needs work.
Review: Huggins' habit of constantly throwing out unusual adjectives (galactic, volcanic, etc.) is jarring and awkward. It is quite noticeable and tends to take you 'out' of the story. Fortunately, Huggins has crafted a very enjoyable action thriller that overcomes any shortcomings in his writing style by delivering some of the best action scenes ever put to paper. Clever, suspenseful, exhilirating, brilliant - See, now he has me throwing out adjectives like there's no tomorrow! Overall, while Huggins' writing lacks the polish of a Michael Crichton, he still knows how to tell a rip-roaring yarn. Recommended.

Summary: to thank everyone for their comments
Review: Hello, this is James Byron Huggins, and I'd like to thank everyone for their comments on CAIN. I appreciated them all, and read every word of what each and every one of you took the time to write. I know there's a lot of talking going around about how I've "sold out" my faith, belief, Christianity, ect., with harsh language, violence, sex, in my novels. I'd like to answer that, in a few words. First, when I write a novel, some characters "live" to me. Some live quite strongly, and perhaps unconsciously I base them on people that I've known. I know what they would do, or say, in certain situations, and once the character has developed its own force on the page, and in my mind, I feel a responsibility to let the character speak. No, I may not "agree" with cursing, and such, but I can't just strip that from a character when I know, with certainty, that that is exactly what he would say. I'm not being true to the characters when I do that. To me, that's selling out. Yes, in The Reckoning, I used very little harsh language, and no cursing. But believe me, if Kertzman had had free rein to say what he would have REALLY said in life, he would have been more colorful. I think you get my point. I'm not defending anything at all. I'm just saying that sometimes a character lives very strongly inside you, and you can't just take words or attitudes or even actions from them because you might not personally agree with it. As far as Soloman being "supermanish" ... well, that's ... he's lucky to be alive at the end of the book. Cain is inhuman, and indestructible, for the most part, and yes, he was in theory actually inhabited by Satan. I thought that that much was pretty clear. He spoke every language, had an intimate knowledge of secret things, including personal histories of his enemies, and had several long sections where he spoke rather bitterly to God. People say my heros are "perfect." No, I don't see it that way. Not at all. Soloman isn't close to perfect, either spiritually or physically. He's in shape, and he is searching, and he is motivated. And ask yourself this; what would you be willing to do to save your child? Well, I can't answer for you. But I can answer for myself. And my answer is: No pain, no fear, no threat could dissuade me from trying Death, for one of my children. I think most mothers and fathers understand me on that. Perhaps because I've spent so much of my life either smuggling, fighting, or surviving some pretty outlandish situations, I associate my love with what I've done to protect that love. To all those who have a problem with some cursing, I apologize. I don't write such things because I practice them. Actually, I'm not much of a talker, period. But I want to be true to the characters. And it's pretty much as simple as that. Finally, yes, my novels center on what I believe is an ongoing, and real, battle between good and evil. I believe in good, and I believe in evil. I believe in God, and I am a Christian. I've seen the depths of evil, I believe that it is more than man, and that it can be challenged, and defeated. Not always, but there's everything to be won, and only our lives to be lost. And to that I say, some things are worth dying for. Last, I want to thank everyone, once again, for their words. And a special thanks to Harriet, who has indeed called me on the line more than once about errors, inconsistencies, ect, and you've never been wrong.
