Summary: Not What I Expected...But A Good Story....
Review: Although this book started slowly, I thought it pulled things together nicely toward the end. This story was told by a nameless, super-sensitive man, who loved Nicole even after leaving him at the altar years earlier. He soon learns that Nicole is in love with another woman and in his blind love for Nicole he agrees to meet the "other woman", Ayanna. The lead character struggles when Nicole asks him if he will share a bed with her and Ayanna. The story continues and explores the dilemma the title character faces as he considers the offer, tries to win Nicole back, and deals with other relationship issues with his father. We also see the issues that Nicole faces with her super-religious mother and Ayanna. Each must struggle to make decisions that would change the rest of their lives.

Dickey has penned a book that contains a great deal of explicit heterosexual and lesbian sex which may be appealing to some and repulsive to others. It stretches the imagination and has a real feel to it...like Dickey has personal experience with the issues.

I enjoyed the book...it wasn't what I expected, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Summary: BETWEEN LOVERS
Review: I FOUND THIS BOOK TO BE MY SECOND FAVORITE BY THE AUTHOR. I WAS A LITLLE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE ENDING ONLY BECAUSE IT DID NOT GO THE WAY I WANTED TI TO. ERIC,KEPT MY ATTENTION ON MATTERS THAT I DON'T AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH. SOME OF THE SCENE I FOUND VERY EMBARASSING TO READ ONLY BECAUSE OF MY OWN NAIVETE. I DO APPLAUD HIM FOR GOING THAT EXTRA MILE AND ENLIGHTENING READERS ON THE MATTERS. A CONSTANT FAN I DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT THE BOOK WAS ABOUT. I JUST PICKED UP HIS LATESET BOOK AND PUT IN THE PILE WITH ALL MY OTHER NEW NOVELS AND WAITED UNTIL IT WAS HIS TURN TO BE READ. I AM SORRY THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO CONVINCE FRIENDS OF STARTING A BOOK CLUB. HIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AN AWESOME CHOICE FOR US. THE SCENES WITH THE MOTHER WERE SO VIVID AND REAL I COULD FEEL THE PAIN THE CHARACTERS WERE GOING THROUGH. I HATED NICOLE FOR A WHILE THINKING THAT SHE WAS BEING VERY SPOILED, SEFISH AND NOT LOVING THE BEAUTIFUL TALENTED AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN SHE HAD IN FRONT OF HER. I COULD TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE MOTHER IN SOME WAYS AND TRIED HARD TO FIND AN ARGUMENT FOR NICOE AS WELL. LOVE ME FOR WHO I AM AND NOT FOR WHAT YOU WNT ME TO BE. I LOVED THIS BOOK 2ND TO MILK IN MY COFFEE.....THE CHARACTERS WERE
PROFESSIONAL AND HONEST AND NOT THE STEROTYPICAL PLAYERS THAT AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN AND WOMEN ARE CONSTANTLY DISPLAYED AS. IF YOU HAVE A GOOD IMAGINATOIN AND THINK THERE IS NOTHIN WRONG WITH READING ABOUT TOUCHING AND FEELING SOMEONE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX AND OF THE SAME SEX AND ALL THAT YOU WILL TRULY ENJOY THIS BOOK. I MYSELF BLUSHED AT SOME THE READINGS BUT THAT'S ME AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES THE WORLD GO 'ROUND. YOU GO ERIC, CONTINUE TO DO WHAT IT IS YOU DO SO WELL. A JOB WELL DONE. JRJ.

Summary: Mmph Mmph MMPH!!!
Review: I considered Cheaters to be EJD's best work so far. I stand corrected!

Between Lovers went there and established it's own zip code! A freaky-deaky twist on the classic lover's triangle, this book explored not only heterosexual vs. homosexual relationships, but also the lengths to which we as people go in order to maintain relationships (or our illusions thereof).

The character development was sublime. Nicole was the character I liked the least, as she was so confused and trying to please everyone so that everyone would like her. The writer was not that much better, but anyone who has been kicked to the curb by someone thought as being The One can relate to his state of denial (it's not just a river in Egypt). Ayanna was the book's strongest and most likeable character; she stood up for what and who she believed in and made no excuses for her life or lifestyle. The presence of the father and his words of wisdom throughout the book served more as a distraction than anything else (especially his input as the writer watched a woman get arrested). The writer's literal obsession with making his relationship with Nicole work was sad to read, but all too human. Nicole's mother was a colorful guest star in this drama; the fried chicken and fur coat was a delicious juxtaposition.

The key scenes in the book (the menage-a-trois; the visit by Nicole's mom in the hotel room; the near-fatal run) kept you on your toes enough to overlook any tritefulness or predictability. Common viewpoints were presented in an uncommon way, without judgement or taking sides; I appreciated this. The ending was so unexpected, I treated it as I did the ending in Cheaters: I reread it a few times, called some friends to discuss it, and reread it some more!

Summary: Is it really that bad? I think not!
Review: Okay I've read a few of the reviews and nobody is giving Eric the credit he deserves. When I read the book this summer I admit it started off slow and it took me a couple of hours to get into the book, but once I got into it I felt it was alright. I like Eric's books and I really thought he did a good job because he changed up the plot so it wouldn't be so predictable. It kept me wondering. When I first started reading the book I thought Eric has flipped to the other side and I couldn't understand why he would write a book about a confused bisexual woman. I do agree that all of his other books such as, "Friends& Lovers", "Sister, Sister","Milk in my Coffee","Liars Game",and "Cheaters" were way better and mind blowing then his newest book. Eric I can't wait until your next book hit the shelf. I will be the first person in the store ready to buy the same day. You keep up your good work and DON'T let nobody stop you from being the best writer that you are. I know that I'm not the only one that feel Eric should turn some of his books into Movies. Think about it!!!!!!

Summary: Good....but......
Review: I am a big Eric Jerome Dickey fan, and once again he wrote a very good book and this one had me a bit on edge because of the subject matter which was of a sexual nature and those areas I found myself rushing through to get past it. But in all, it is worth reading for all the different emotions, decisions and life altering changes that each character was going through, but if you are the type that feel that individual of the same sex should not be together, then you don't want to read this book!!!

Summary: Hot & spicy. Racy & controversial.
Review: The male lead of this novel will relate a story to the reader that many will find shocking. As he drips the juicy details of a passionate love affair filled with obsession and sexual experimentation, the reader will absorb each word with a mouth-hanging-open readiness. As Mr. Dickey as showed us in the past, there's more drama going on in romantic relationships than we can begin to imagine. If you've never read Mr. Dickey, start with one of his other novels before working yourself up into a panting frenzy over this one....

Summary: Entertaining, but unrealistic
Review: This book was entertaining if nothing else. At times, I felt as though I was reading poetry instead of a novel, but I assume that is his writing style (this is the first book I have read by him). The storyline is kind of sensitive, and I must applaud Mr. Dickey for putting it out there, but to me, it was so unrealistic or maybe I'm the one with my head in the sand because I don't know of anybody that would put up with that kind of love triangle from either end. Also, the characters never seemed like real people to me, with one exception: the Mother. Overall, the book was a quick and easy read for me because I was hoping that eventually the characters would start to turn into real people, plus I was anxious to see what would happen in the end. I hate to say that I was ultimately disappointed. If you are looking for a page turner with steamy heterosexual and lesbian ..., this is the perfect read for you; however, if you are looking for some REAL people and characters with substance, look elsewhere.

Summary: Undeniable Love
Review: I really enjoyed Mr. Dickey book - Between Lovers. Upon reading his novel it's strange how strongly someone's love of another can take you through storm and tribulations. I've have experience that kind of feeling and even though you try to go on, you can never stop loving someone no matter what the circumstances. Mr. Dickey, keep up the good work and I look so forward in reading many more novels to come.

Summary: Three people sharing one bed...
Review: This novel was about two people in love with the same woman who in my opinion loves neither. Nicole the main character is a straight up self-centered woman. She leaves her man of SEVEN years on their wedding day at the altar and then gives him one option.....in order to be with her he has to accept her girlfriend Ayanna. She uses them both at her advantage ONLY! She controls them with what is between her legs and like obedient dogs with their tongues out they submit! I felt for Vincent at time because he was one WEAK black man. Some would say he was in love, some would say he was whipped I would say he was a FOOL!

Even though I did not like Nicole I tip my hat off to her because she was one powerful...! This book had a sad ending. Even though Vincent FINALLY woke up and moved on I think he still wants, needs and loves Nicole. (Sadly to say)

This is Eric Jerome Dickey at his best. He writes with so much emotion the reader can feel it!! I love the style of writing he choose to use with this book. I would recommend this book to everyone!I would rate this book more than five stars (*******) EJD, you get two snaps and a hand clap ONCE AGAIN! Thank You!depth of love for Nicole..............absolutely ANYTHING was possible for him. Was it intense? Without a doubt............but intensity is what you make it.

Could EJD have done some things differently or told the story more to my liking? Maybe....maybe not............nonetheless it doesn't take away the level of creativity that EJD has to bring to his market of contemporary AA fiction. I believe that he touched on a subject that might be a little too close for comfort for some and non-affecting for others. Yet and still, it was intensly bold and very much an interesting read.
