Rating: Summary: DYNAMIC Review: I feel this is one of the best novels yet to be written by Mr. Dickey. It keeps the reader's interest by actually putting you in the actual setting. Each and every page kept me constantly guessing what the outcome would be. Once you start reading it's hard to put down until you've finished.
Rating: Summary: AN EMOTIONALLY ACCURATE READING Review: Broadway actor Richard Allen gives an emotionally accurate reading to this sometimes comic, often erotic contemporary love triangle by Eric Jerome Dickey, author of the best selling "Liar's Game." Believing himself to be at the top of his game both professionally and personally, a Los Angeles based African-American author is stunned when he's left cooling it at the altar by Nicole, his steady and stalwart lover of seven years. The copout bride makes a beeline for her second lover, Ayanna, a beautiful, hot tempered attorney. Before long Nicole is alternating evenings between the writer and Ayanna. Three's more than a crowd when this trio gets together - sparks fly and crash land as the dialogue reaches fever pitch. It's author Dickey at his best; he's cutting edge, on target, and thought provoking. A tragic twist compels all to reevaluate their lives. Reader Richard Allen carries the day with this fast paced read, and Eric Jerome Dickey again proves his authorial prowess.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Love Review: This book started a little slow for me but by 3/4 th done, I asked myself three questions. Was the story good? Yes; Did the characters evoke feelings? YES; And did the characters show growth? Yes. This story was told by a nameless, sensitive man, who loved his woman, almost to a fault. Nicole stood at her wedding ceremony, trying to respond to the Minister's question. Finally, she asked her groom if she could speak with him in private; she explained that she was having second thoughts and needed some time. Reluctantly, he agreed and the wedding was called off. After the smoke clears, Nicole tells him she also loves someone else, but will he stay with her? He answers yes. She tells him the "someone else" is a woman but, will he stay with her? He answers yes. Several months later as he and Nicole lay in bed she tells him she wants him to meet Ayanna, will he? He answers maybe? After he meets Ayanna; yeah he said yes; Nicole asks him if he will share a bed with her and Ayanna? Ok, see the pattern and you know what his answer was, ummm hmmm. The problem is Nicole had rules, she was the only one who would share the both of them, no crossing the line between him and Ayanna. At one point I wondered if she could ask a question that he COULD refuse? However, when HE and Ayanna ask Nicole if they could all share the bed and make it a three way coupling, Nicole's answer was a resounding NO! Was she selfish or was she afraid? And will he stay? The families offered little support for the decisions they made and the lifestyles they chose to live. And that added to the drama as they all struggled to make decisions that would change the rest of their lives. Dickey has penned one of the most thought provoking, controversial stories I have read in a good while. It really stretched the imagination, but it was a story with a too real feel to it. You will hear this one reverberating off the wall for quite a while. Reviewed by aNN
Rating: Summary: Whaaaaaat???? Review: Quick read from EJD as usual. It was frustrating to read about the main character running in circles for seven years only to realize at the end that he had been running in circles. At least he stopped. Between the three lovers there was so much drama. I guess that was one of the points of the story though.....with three lovers how can there not be....
Rating: Summary: He did it again Review: Between Lovers, is not like the books before, it has a different style but the same rhythm. You get to know the characters, pick your favorite, get mad with the characters, wonder what the heck is wrong with them cause there is no way you would go out like that, and then cry in the end cause things turned out for the good. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. Once again EJD has me saying "You go boy" at the end of his latest imagination teaser, and mind stimulator.
Rating: Summary: LOVIN' E J D Review: ....I PERSONALLY LOVE ALL YOUR BOOKS. THOUGH THIS WAS NOT YOUR BEST IT WAS A GREAT BOOK. THE THING I LIKE ABOUT YOUR BOOKS IS THAT YOU'RE REAL. YOU DONT SUGAR COAT ANYTHING. SO WITH THIS BOOK I DIDNT TAKE IT AS A MAN AND TWO WOMAN. I RELATED IT TO MY LIFE. BECAUSE I KNOW THERE IS ALWAYS SOME UNSEEN LOVER IN MY MAN'S LIFE. SO I JUST WANTED TO SAY I LIKED THE BOOK. YOU JUST HAVE TO RELATE IT TO YOU AND YOUR LIFE. MOST PEOPLE CAN'T HANDLE SEENING THE OTHER ONE WHOS STEALING THEIR LOVED ONES AFFECTIONS....KEEP WRITING
Rating: Summary: Ugh! Review: I did not enjoy this book, it's bordering on soft porn. I am getting pretty tired of the same ole trite, bourgeouis (sp?) people who are so enlightened into jazz blah blah blah. And why is it that he takes these selfish characters that always end up not learning some type of lesson. They just kind of have some drama and then things fall into place. No challenge to their integrity or values. NO growth. And was it me or were the two pursurers bordering on obsessive about Nicole? Also, the character of Nicole wasn't developed past her sexual prowess for you to even understand what's so great about her that they were willing to compromise the way they did.
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Edgy, Racey, Mouth-Watering Page-turner.... Review: WOW!! With yet another bestseller EJD has definatley done it once again, in what has to be one of his most risky and brilliantly written book yet. I couldn't put this one down!! Eric stayed true to style but, added some red hot spice to the pot. The interesting mix of Nicole, Ayanna and Mr.X(SMILE), was very edgy and racey for Eric and a true delight. The storyline was exciting, dangerous, surreal and beauitful all in one. I also found it interesting to see how the choices one makes affects their life, with family and friends and ultimately their lifestyle. How damaging the end results can be and how important it is to be true to others and most importantly yourself. How forgiveness and redemption can set you free from the emotional baggage we sometimes carry, hide and harbor. It was wonderfully written and well worth the money and read. I will read this one again and could'nt wait to share it with others. I'm sure many will find it to be a page turner and will be talking about the latest EJD hit blazin'up the literary scene. BRAVO!! Eric. I had a blast laughing, talking and taking pictures with you. The Sistah Circle Book Club enjoyed hosting you at the Shrine Book Center. We're still talking about it. See ya again next year and continued success as always.
Rating: Summary: eric, you had such potential Review: two days of my life i will never get back. eric's rewriting the same book over and over again. he tries to throw in a new wrinkle here and there, but even stevie wonder can see it's the same ol' same ol. do you always have to make the brotha a scrub, eric ? but what really turned me off was the menage a' tois/lesbian angle of the story. i'm sorry. if you love more than one person at the same time, you will always love one more than the other.and as far as i'm concerned, no man can love as good as a woman or vice-versa. i can't understand what could make a person be gay or lesbian. maybe it's a chemical imbalance; maybe they're extremely hard up. eric's not interested in being the new terry mcmillian; he's going for e lynn harris territory and he's failing miserably. it's all about keeping the publishers happy. he's not writing for himself anymore. tell me brother, how much did you get for your soul?
Rating: Summary: Between Lovers Review: I have read several of EJD's work and I have to say I was dissapointed with this book. The love triangle between the narrator, Nicole and Ayana was unrealistic. Nicole, an extremely selfish woman wants to have it all. She has no consideration of Ayana and the narrator. Ayana and the narrator are also weak characters, giving into so call Nicole's spell. Eventhough the book explored other themes(spiritual, mother-daughter relationships etc), it concentrated mostly on explicit sex (x-rated) scenes.
