Summary: LOVED IT
Review: In EJD"S newest novel Between Lover's we meet the narrator, (who remains nameless)his former lover Nicole, and her new lover Ayanna. The story takes place in Oakland, CA and opens with Nicole setting out to get her former lover (no name) up to Oakland from his home in Los Angeles. After being left at the altar by Nicole, you would think he would have learned his lesson. Oh no.....he goes to see her and eventually meets her new lover Ayanna.

Nicole is the type of person who is very selfish, self centered and just has to have her cake and eat it too. Once no name and Ayanna meet.....it is on. They both want Nicole and of course Nicole cannot or will not make a decision on who she wants. EJD has written a story that is on a different level than any of his previous works....amazing. You will love to hate Nicole, Ayanna and no name. This is a great story and I highly recommend it. Continued success and blessings to EJD.

Summary: this book is for open minds only
Review: First off I would like to say that the book was interesting. No not one of his best, but never the less a good book. He changed his style a bit and it was good to see Toyomi again. Nicole is his character you love to hate. I beg to differ with alot of the reviewers saying that the triangle was unrealistic. Because I happen to know 2 people in a man/woman/man situation. And it is very real. And as far as another comment as to the book borderlining porn, come on get real I have read much worse. But I think the book is for readers with a very open mind. And as far as those who were disgusted by the love scenes, what did you expect... did you not read the back cover before you bought it. So open minders read it and enjoy it!!

Summary: Severely Disappointed
Review: Look - I love EJD's books. I love his writing style, his characters, and his humor. All of that was missing from this book. I can appreciate what he was trying to do - show us he is more than just a cookie cutter author. But if I wanna read books about homosexuality, I'll pick up an E. Lynn Harris book. If I want to read explicit sex scenes, I'll pick up Sheri Campbell. That's not why I invest my time and energy into EJD's books.

When I finished this book, I literally tossed it across the room. I didn't like the characters, I didn't appreciate the preachy, moralistic tone of the book, and I was hoping for a vehicular manslaughter charge toward the end of the book. Something to put these people out of their misery.

It was too artsy in some places - all the watercolor descriptions of hair, clothing, feelings, blah blah blah. "Heart colored hair" "golden locks" "sunset hues of heartbreak".... There wasn't enough substance - and the characters were overblown, forced and had no motivation. Nicole's mother for example - if he had wanted to provide some insight into her character, he should have mentioned her prescription for Prozac. There was too much sadness, too much melancholy, too much of too much. And the guy was a [weakling]. I wouldn't recommend this book to anybody.

Having said that, I will say that I respect his attempt to go in a new direction. Now that you've tried it, EJD, get back on the road your faithful readers know and love!

Summary: Great Read.
Review: I just finished reading this book last night. Halfway through the book, I still wasn't sure if I liked it, I just didn't think I enjoyed the plot, or where I thought the story was headed. I can say w/o a doubt now that I enjoyed it.

The story revolves around a writer, his ex-fiancee, and her lover. The relationships of these three individuals was well developed. This is a story of love, trust, understanding and growth. The relationship of the writer and his dad helps you to understand why he reacts such as he does.

The story goes much deeper than three individuals who decide to have a manage-a-trois. As a matter of fact, the story wasn't about that at all. It shows how two totally different people can love the same individual. It's about mental, spiritual, and physical love. After reading the journey of these three individuals, you are happy that they have chosen to live like they have. Seeing them grow into stronger mental individuals is refreshing.

Eric Jerome Dickey has once again displayed his talents as a writer. I always enjoy how characters from previous books will return in future books, even if it's just a cameo. I'm curious to know why the writer remains nameless, other than Nicole's reference to him as "sweetie".

Summary: Not-Able-To-Put-Downer
Review: This book is a Not-able-to-put-downer. It hits on a different kind of relationship besides man and woman. This books involves man and woman and woman with some aspects of the struggle of being bisexual in a heteorsexual world told from the heteorsexual man's point of veiw. One of the many things I like about this book is the fact that the characters are not naive and they are not afraid to say what they feel when they feel the time is right to say it. The characters have depth and the book really takes you into different areas of the bisexual world. Between Lovers in definitely a must buy, not borrow, buy, to put on you bookshelf.

Summary: EJD did not write this book!
Review: EJD is still one of my favorite authors, I have every one of his books, but I could not get through this book. I got half way through (usually when I'm half way through one of his books, I cant put it down) and had to put it down. He's still the man, but this book was poorly written. It was so slow at the beginning, and it just didnt keep my interest. I'll catch the next one and hope it's better than Between Lovers.

Summary: A Trip.....
Review: This book was a total trip to me. In the past I have not like Eric's work, but every now and then I buy one, just to give the brotha another chance. I must say I enjoyed this one, not overwhelmingly but enjoyed nonetheless. I understand this book's style is different fron his previous style, maybe that is why I liked it.

It's such a shocker, you won't be able to put it down, anxious to see what could possibly happen next. READ THE BOOK!

Summary: Different but Good
Review: Between Lovers was certainly a different read. A triangle love story that you would not wish on any one. This is my least favorite book of Eric's. While I knew I was not going to love this story from the begining. The final ending of the story was redeemable.

The story started off slow and it was not going very far , I was wonder what has happened to my Eric. Then it picked up and took off and it left me with an emotionally charged story listening to the narrator. My heart went out to the narrator. Can a man want a woman that badly ? That can't be love. To put up with and go thru the things he did.

How can one woman have such an affect on a man and a woman. This is a love you pray you never have. Alove to strong. While I did not like Nicole at all. As a reader stated she was such a selfish person. He wanted him so Nicole by an means neccessary . Come on Mr. Narrator you had to much love to give to some other deserving woman and he deserved better.

When it was said "Pain is just weakness leaving your body " I thought ,with an addiction like Nicole who needs love.

Those of you that are undecided about this book give it a chance. It is redeemable, but I do want the old Eric back ! Yes that's my boy and I will be waiting on his next book . Not his best but a good read .

While this book is certainly not for everybody, but if you are willing to take the challenge go for it . It is a good read . He does keep it real . I still can not get over this one.

Summary: Eric Jerome WHO?
Review: I guess I should wait until I'm FINISHED reading the book before reviewing it, but I just couldn't hold it in any longer. WHAT THE #$%! IS THIS? It's like i'm reading something with EJD's name on it, but written by someone else. The writing style was TOTALLY different from his previous works, and it didn't work for me OR HIM. I think the characters thus far (I'm 3/4 of the way through the book) are under-developed and shallow, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that they won't be developed any further in the last quarter of the book if they aren't by now. The story focuses so much on sex between the three that it takes away from whatever else was supposed to be there. And what's up with Nicole and her DENIAL? She keeps blaming the narrator for her current lifestyle - WEAK! This book is just not working for me, but I'm going to finish it because I bought it and i'm 3/4 of the way through it. EJD please go back to the way you were writing before.

Summary: Oh Lawd he done did it again
Review: Ok peeople I must say lawd, lawd, lawd lawd EJD done did it again. This book takes you through more twists and turns than a rattle snake. As always, and without fail their is D.R.A.M.A. The story involves the complexities of two people in love with one woman, so much so that that their lives become interminglied in a web of lies, deceit, emotional rollercoasters and the such. Everyone of the characters in this book are gonna make you mad, amnd I mean everyone. The banter between the lovers is biting and hilarious all at the same time. EJD drops subtle hints throughout the story that the avid reader and fan will sometimes pick up and just shake their head at the the insanity I read this book in two days which is usually the span of time it takes me to read one of EJD's books. His mastery of vivid description and imagination pull this love triangel together in such a way that one is still left guessing until the very last word of the very last sentence on the very last pages. Kudos on another well written story. WARNING: EJD trecks through new territory in this book, so it may be somewhat disturbing for those who are not as open and accepting of differences.
