Rating: Summary: What a read! Review: Between Lovers was an exceptional read. The storyline alone intrigued me but I was most impressed by the honesty that I felt was expressed in this story. I could feel the pain and struggle of all of the characters in this book. When an author is able to make you feel for the characters, especially the ones that you don't want to like, then you know they've got talent. I loved that this story was so unpredictable. The story stayed with me for many days after I read the last page.
Rating: Summary: BIG EJD FAN, BUT VERY DISAPPOINTED Review: I can honestly say this is by far, the worst EJD book he has written. That's not to say that this book isn't good; it just doesn't live up to my expectations of a true EJD fan and his reputation. I can honestly say that the main character gave more detail of other's lives then he did his own. No one knows his name, anything really about his family (except his nameless father was a civil rights activist), and that he is in love with a CONFUSED woman. This book mad me so mad! What in a person's right state of mind thinks it is okay for them to toy around with two people's emotions like Nichole did. In a way, I think it's the two confused and betrayed lovers of Nichole who are to blame. Neither one was born a victim, but they chose to be victim's of Nichole's mindless, thoughtless, and selfish behavior. What took both character's so long to wake up and see that they were Nichole's puppets in a role staring Nichole, directed by Nichole, and produced by Nichole? What made her so special that everyone in the book seem to want her? It took a man nearly losing the mental state of his manhood and a woman opting for ultimate humillation to see that Nichole didn't really care for their feelings. But do you think that made each character finally wake up? Yeah right! That just made them fall more madly in love with her. Men AND women beware of being victims of people like Nichole. If you are in love with someone make sure that they love you and that they aren't jumping the fence for both love and lust. BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME EJD.
Rating: Summary: Good But Not As Good Review: This book was good but not as good as all of the other books. It took me 2 weeks to get throught the first 100 pages but after that I finished it in 2 days. Between Lovers is better then Liar's Game but it can't touch Milk in My Coffee or Cheaters by a long shot. I am a Dickey fan and just because this book is not on my A list does not mean I am going to down the brother. Eric keep your head up because I know your next book is going to be the bomb. Lil Mama
Rating: Summary: I Enjoyed it Review: This book is a page turner. Eric J. Dickey is one of my favorite writers. This book is good. Cheaters was the best but this was is number 2. I loved it. I loved the ending and how he tied it all together. You won't be able to put it down until you find if the Man or the woman wins in the end. Go Eric -- You did it again. Your talent is blessed by God.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: This is one of Dickey's best work yet. It's very intimate and personable. I could not put it down once I cracked the cover. A VERY good read!
Rating: Summary: Is this porn? Review: I am a huge Dickey fan, and I love the sensuality he expresses in his writings, but I thought this one was over the top. I thought it focused so much on the sex that it didn't get enough into the plot. Of course, I couldn't put the book down, so maybe that tells more of the truth than I'm willing to admit, even to myself!
Rating: Summary: A different novel Review: EJD does it again. Although I could not relate to any of the characters, it was refreshing to see EJD explore that particular type of relationship in this book. I know some reviewers have said that he has lost his touch but he has not. Sometimes an author has to do a different type of novel to shake things up a bit. To all of EJD's fans, please read this book with an opened mind. Do not compare them to his other novels. Judge this novel on its own merit. Change is good.Good job Eric! Can't wait for your next novel.
Rating: Summary: What in the world is this all about EJD??????!!!!!!!!!! Review: Eric, I have all your books except this one. I never write a bad review; however, I must say that I am very disappointed in this book and yes the last two also. I am one of your biggest supporters' from the start of your career and I just have to say, "I am hurt". I couldn't believe it was you who written this book. I didn't read the book, I listen to the audio tape from the library and I was just crushed. Eric, you are aware that many AA writers are emerging and very soon readers will have to limit those they support. I hope I make the right choice.
Rating: Summary: Stick with Eric Dickey regardless of storyline Review: When I first heard about Between Lovers, I was taken aback by the subject matter, but decided to read the book anyway for its story-telling worthiness. Personally, I thought he did a fine job in telling a complex story, especially since he isn't taking it from his own life, but is actually making it up, becoming the characters, and trying to imagine what it would feel like to be in their shoes. It is bothersome to see how people are dissing this book. If you were to take EJD's name off the cover, would it still be considered so horrible (as a few other readers have indicated)? Why is it that people think just because Eric alters his style a little bit, and writes about something controversial with unlikable characters that his writing is getting worse? I thought his writing was fine. As a matter of fact, Eric's "worst" could be considered another writer's "best", but that's another matter. Think about it! This is his sixth book. If he keeps redoing Cheaters & Friends and Lovers, people will complain that he's formulaic. Yet if he takes a risk, which all serious writers have to do at some point, some of the readers don't like it and wish he'd go back to the style that he's already mastered. If you want the true formulaic type writer, go read a Danielle Steele novel, but if you are willing to hang with someone who seems to enjoy stretching artistically and challenging himself, than stick with Eric Jerome Dickey and allow him the space to create unusual stories and at the same time cultivate his craft.
Rating: Summary: DIFFERENT BUT STILL GREAT Review: To me EJD is still doing what he does best. Telling stories about everyday life. Not all of us are the same and just b/c we can't seem to relate to the characters in the book doesn't mean that his writing style is getting worst. Me personally I couldn't relate to any of the characters in Milk in My Coffee but it was still a decent read. Between Lovers explores a kind of relationship that is foreign to alot of us but there is someone out there that is living this story. Its a great story about the joys and heartache that love can cause. I like the fact that EJD explores all kind of relationships. Milk in My Coffee explored interacial dating, Sister Sister explored female bonds, Friends & Lovers explored betrayal, love, and friendship Cheaters explored what happens when you mess around in a relationship, Liars Game explored betrayal and redemption....all different in some aspect but still great.
