Rating: Summary: WHOAAAA!!!!!! Review: Eric you're killin me! This is exceptional!! Written with such preciseness (is that even a word?) *wink* A MUST READ!!!!! You are torn as a reader between every character. One minute you're hating one and cheering for the other, and another minute, you've switched teams all together. Not only could I not put the book down, I couldn't stop picking it back up! I think I read it four times in 2 weeks. This is not an easy read, as a matter of fact I hate that terminology! This is a complex enthralling read!!!! Do yourself a favor, buy two!
Rating: Summary: Definately Touched Review: I have read the reviews of other readers for "Between Lovers" I on the other hand found the book to be of perfection. It has only been a year since I have followed the trail of Eric Jerome Dickey. When I first began reading "Between Lovers" I was sort of uncomfortable with its content and how Mr. Dickey mixed the sexual lifestyles. However if you have ever been in love or been in a love triangle the book brings reality to certain situations. I am not a lesbian female or one who believes in the lifestyle but everyone has their own destiny to follow. Mr. Dickey has really touched on perfection with the feelings, emotions, and instinct of what most woman go through when they fight for their men but in a more colorful way he added the mix in lifestyles. Not to many Story Tellers can move in such a fashion that keeps your attention through out the book. However, Mr. Dickey has displayed this talent from the start. You want a book that would actually make you use your feminine and masculine personas then this book will do it for you. Finally, I cried, a good long cry because the ending with acceptance hit to close to home. Congradulations Eric on a job well done... Not a fanatic but an enthusiastic admirer.
Rating: Summary: STRUCK OUT!!! Review: I was very disappointed in this story. I found it "far-fetched" and "vulgar". Where was the "ROMANCE"? Francis Ray and Rochelle Alers are more my style. If you're looking for romance stay away from this book.
Rating: Summary: Doing His Job! Review: Let me tell you that for being a first time reader of Mr. Dickey's work, I was captivativated. I sat and read in awe of this masterpiece of prose. He captured some of the most taboo issues of alternative lifestyles in this book and did it with style. The characters were believable and made a serious impact on my heart. This book encompassed ideas of love that I have yet to ever explore. I really appreciate the sincerity in his writing. It is a story that will reach across the globe in its rich and veracious ideas. This man is definitely doing his job!
Rating: Summary: It was alright Review: I have all of Eric's books, and I loved them. But for some reason I didn't really care too much for this one. I truly didn't care about the whole sexual scenes between the three characters, but it was an ok book. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though, but it's just my opinion. I think Eric could have done a lot better. Especially with the dialogue. The sentences were too short when the characters were talking to each other. I think I gave it a three because I'm a fan of Eric Jerome Dickey's, if I wasn't, I would have given it a 2.
Rating: Summary: What will you do for love? Review: This is definitely one of Eric's best novels. I loved how well Eric developed the three central characters. The main character, a male narrator, wears his heart on his sleeve after Nicole, his girlfriend for seven years, stands him up at the alter to be with her lover Ayanna. The Narrator cannot get over his love for Nicole and embarks on an unhealthy relationship with his ex-fiancée and later with her girlfriend. Throughout the story, each person learns what he or she will and should do for love. The novel is complete with secrets, passion (enough to make you wave your hand & call up a friend), and pain. It also makes evident where love and obsession may lead, though undoubtedly in the extreme. More significantly, the story demonstrates how important it is not to lose your identity in another person, thereby giving up your power to learn, love, and grow. Ladies and Gentlemen, if the "love of your life" leaves you, then let them go--your future will only be better, brighter, and healthier. No one should go through the drama that the Narrator, Nicole, or Ayanna go through.
Rating: Summary: Such Irony!! Review: I must say that i have to give Virginia's grandson, a two thumbs up because he really has outdone himself. He made me feel what each character was feeling at the time. I noticed he didn't use his usual set up like in his previous books when the reader gets to read from each character's point of view. I loved how he kept it from the "unknown author's" point of view. I love how he keeps the reader wondering if he was the main character in this book. Personally, I did picture him as the main character. Although there wasn't anything wrong with his writing style in the other books, it's good to know that he's giving the readers a change. The irony in the book kept me on my toes from beginning to end. He always kept me guessing what will happen next. I couldn't put the book down. I was finished reading it in a day. I also admired how he touched on the subject of homosexuality and what a person goes through when coming out of the closet. Now I know how some of my friends must have felt when they came out. I also have a better understanding of why some people choose to be homosexuals and that "a threesome" isn't always a man's fantasy. the ...scenes were so ...and tasteful that it made me want to just devour my boyfriend. Sometimes I did have to put the book down and take a "deep breath" and get a better feel on the subject. Also the way he describes Oakland is as if I was there. To all the readers: if you are a regular EJD fan, then you must read this book and taste the different flavor he has created. I promise it will leave you begging for another EJD book real soon.
Rating: Summary: EJD is still The Man...but I was a little dissapointed. Review: And it wasn't b/c of the storyline either. I hear a lot of people saying it was too shocking. I thought the actual storyline was great. I just didn't think he delivered it as hard as he did in his previous books. I don't know it was just something missing. But I will still buy anything that he puts down on paper!!!
Rating: Summary: intense yet meaningful Review: this book has an interesting beginning, intense middle, yet a meaningful end. how a writer can disclose so much in one book and make the reader think about each statement a character made shows talent, spirit, and a personable karma from each page.
Rating: Summary: Very disturbing, yet a very good read Review: It took me a while to get used to Eric's writing style in this book. The lack of subjects in his sentences was very annoying. However, once I adapted to his style, I could not put the book down. This book is not just about lesbian relationships. There are very strong undercurrent issues of loyalty, selfishness, power, & insecurity to name a few. I related this story to a heterosexual relationship that I once was in. My mate had control of me and other women just as Nicole had control over her lovers. This story has taken residence in my psyche. It is so sad that people have to go through such heart aching moments in life. We should all learn to love others as we wish to be loved. BRAVO, Mr. Dickey, you have made us think about things that are taboo. You have also exposed a side of love that many are not willing to admit exist
