Summary: This book won't bore you at all!
Review: Perfume, this book is the story of a man whom since his birth was marked by life to become a curse to those who became his victims. His powerful nostrils could smell every single odor and more. The character in this book, and the plot itself is captivating and will take you to a place in time that you never thought could be so stinky. Almost a fairy tale; the story of a serial killer of the dark ages; the book is fantastic.

Summary: Over the edge of passion
Review: Curious about a second hand recommendation of our company's vice president of finance, I picked up an English version in a Frankfurt book store a few years ago and read it between meetings while on a business trip in Belgium. The all consuming passion of the central character captured me and I couldn't escape till I had read it through. I was spent & felt as though I was right in the heart of the story.

Summary: stunning, mesmerizing and "I wish I could be the one"
Review: Jean Baptiste, born in the gutters of a fish market, driven by the quest of being the best in his field. What a man!!!!!!!!!!! The way he works the various scents, the techniques and his physique makes this one incredibly exciting. I read the German and American version several times. The only thing we loose on this side of the ocean is the beauty of the German language. One line summary???? READ IT and make sure you have your favorite scent stabilized and don't go buy an Eau de Cologne the next day!!!!!!!!

Summary: The most pleasant smelling murder ever
Review: To be able to imagine, every scent on every page of this book, was incredible. Thank god, it wasn't a scatch and sniff book. (LOL) BRILLIANCE,SHEER BRILLIANCE...I have never experienced such a desire and passion for a book

Summary: absolutly fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Entering this enormous novel is like buying a ticket for the ghost train and plunging into a world of metaphysical illusion, where you must forget earlier notions about life and letter or even the Novel.

Summary: Opens up your eyes - and nose!
Review: Perfume will never be the same after this truly scent-sational read. Horrifying and erotic, it's quite unlike anything I've ever read before - and I've read quite a lot. Not for all tases, but still not to be ignored.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Well researched
Review: I was pleased by the uniqueness of the subject matter of Perfume and the depth to which it was researched. It is not difficult to see why it was a New York Times Bestseller, and I recommend it highly.

Summary: (Doo doo brown) Smells like teen spirit....
Review: Nothing happpens, and when it does it's completely banal. I should have smelled this one comin'. The nose knows and this one stinks. As a friend stated, "I can see how most of mainstream America i.e those who subscribe to People Magazine would love it." Sure, Suskind adeptly evokes a time and place , and yes, the idea of a "hero" who rises to fame via the sense most taken for granted is quite novel, but these things do not an interesting story make. I read the first 50 pages and didn't care enough to find out what happens. And even when I was told, I was long past caring.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not exciting
Review: I don't know why everyone was so excited about this book. I read the German book and I finished it in one day - because I tried to figure out why it was said to be so good.
I missed a character I could identify myself with - I did not care about any of the characters, so I found it really boring.
