Rating: Summary: SMELLS LIKE CHILDREN Review: THIS BOOK SMELLS ALOT LIKE CHILDREN RECOMEND IT TO EVERYONE EXCEPT CHILDREN EXCELLENT BOOK REMEMBER: KEEP THIS BOOK AND ALL DRUGS AWAY FROM SMALL CHILDREN !!!!!
Rating: Summary: Fabulous, particularly on audiotape Review: To hear Perfume narrated by Sean Barrett is a treat beyond the imaginable. While I can see that one who is reading this novel may become somewhat restless toward the end, the experience of listening to the unabridged cassette narrated by Mr. Barrett is unforgettable. The olfactory references are truly compelling as they roll off the tongue of the precise, meticulous narrator. This book, whether heard or read, is marvelous.
Rating: Summary: must read it ! Review: Read it ! you'll se
Rating: Summary: the best book I have ever read Review: Suskind's capacity to transmit sensations is unbelievable. The book is not such a fascinating story but the author deserves an award to have managed to describe sensations as the sense of smell...indescribable,inexplicable,extraordinary!
Rating: Summary: Hmmm Review: Perfume was recommended to me as the best book ever written. Quite frankly, although Perfume got off to an auspicious start and made me think about my olfactory senses (previously ignored), I couldn't wait for it to end. It's a horrible story and Suskind seemed fed up with it himself towards the end of the book.
Rating: Summary: Starts out as an interesting read, but fizzles...ZZZZ. Review: I was enthralled with the premise of the book when I first started reading it, but once the novelty wore off, the story left me feeling flat. By the last third of the book, I ceased to have any interest in the main character's thoughts or experiences, and finished the book only for the sake of completing it as opposed to caring how the story ended.
Rating: Summary: fantasizing a humanity Review: The Catcher and the Rye/Clockwork Orange tradition of a lone male antihero how travels the world free with some mystical special force (more literally here, in the protagonist's supernatural sense of smell) prevading his aura is what you have in Perfume, times 10. The sense of adventure and invinsibility, the rejection and freedom of the oppression of society, this book is for the anyone who has ever thought himself special from the commoners and dreams (sometimes) about living amongst the clouds, alone, without the critical eye of an authority figure scrutinizing his/her everymove, and then having the choice to go down to the city streets as a faceless stranger to mingle with the people when the desire arises. The control of one's own destiny, instead of being given a grandplan from birth to be a doctor or a lawyer, to not pick your nose or scratch your balls in public, whatever that society demands. This book is about the celebration of our right to be human, in a collective generalization, but free and special, unique, in being that which we all are by that single term.
Rating: Summary: must read it ! Good Book!! Review: Buen libro, presciso una joya literaria
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have read. Review: As a rule I do not enjoy reading fiction. I read "Perfume" and loved it beyond belief. It is a work of art. I have to get my head out of my histories and biographies and read more novels if this book represents what I have been missing.
Rating: Summary: Suskind's Perfume trancends great literature! Awe inspiring! Review: Reading Patrick Suskind's Perfume for the second time, I realized what a treasure I held in my hands. This book took writing to new hights. Never before did I ever connect to a story like I did to this one. The writing was so perfectly crafted and the story was so fascinating I just couldn't put it down. I was addicted to it, truly. Perfume is by far the best book I have ever read. It surpasses other novels in its sheer creative brilliance. I can't recommend it highly enough. NOT reading Perfume is a cardinal sin. Bravo to Suskind and I can't wait until I read his next book.
