Rating: Summary: Very Enjoyable Review: Another very entertaining work from Jeffery Deaver. He truly is the master of the plot twist, and to echo an earlier review, he crafts an ending here that you won't soon forget.I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the plot. The setting was perfect for the story as well. This would make a great suspense/thriller movie. At the very least a TV movie. As much as I dislike the Lifetime channel this would make a great plot for one of thier movies. It has a strong woman character in Lis Atcheson, who has to face and overcome her past. Guys, don't let this comment keep you from reading it. It has some great action, and good male characters as well. I would probably even watch the movie if Lifetime made it. Don't hesitate to read this one, I'm certain you will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Pray for More from Deaver Review: Deaver once again has spun a wonderous tale of deception. He is the master of hidden truths and twists and this early tale does not disappoint! I could not wait to finish this one and was flipping thru the last 100 pages to see what was going to happen to these well-developed characters. Kudos to Deaver once again!
Rating: Summary: Bordom is a choice of life! Review: How can one go through 431 pages of dull storytelling
and plot, without falling asleep? I still can't figure out
how I was able to read it until the end. This book is
full of plot holes (or potholes, if you may) and the author's
reaserch about schezophrenia is not even right. There
are a lot of mistakes in this slow-moving novel that will leave you braindead and empty. It is advertised as being "a suspensful read any mystery fans will love"; this is
what you call false advertisement. There is no way
this bok will become a classic, even less a hit
Rating: Summary: I've learned my lesson Review: I am a tried and true Jeff Deaver fan.... at least I was untilI read "Praying for Sleep." It didn't actually put me sleep, but it definitely annoyed me. The author jumps around from one scenario to another, most of which are highly implausible. The book is confusing and slow. I bought it based upon my reading of Deaver's other works. I neglected to read the Amazon.com reviews. I've learned my lesson.
Rating: Summary: Nailbiting Review: I bought Praying for Sleep on the sole basis of the brilliant writing contained in The Bone Collector, and I wasn't disappointed. P.f.S. is excellent - I felt really satisfied at the ending, and was very sorry to put it down - doesn't happen very often for me! Characters were built up with incredible skill, and the ending blew my socks off. In fact, I had to go back and read it again. Very clever writing - Deaver you're top!
Rating: Summary: Extremely well thought out Review: I have read and re-read Praying for sleep by Jeffrey Deaver and I can honestly say that it is a page turner. I first read the book when I was 17 years young and now I am 24 years young. It had an even better effect on me the second time around because of maturity. Needless to say, Deaver did an excellent job with Praying for Sleep. I have read several books of his since then and so far...so good!
Rating: Summary: Page Turner Review: I have read other Deaver books and found this one the fastest read. Very intense, fast moving, 3 day read. As many plot twists and turns as promised. Not as intellectual as "The Bone Collector", but just as enjoyable. I can usually figure the ending out by the middle of the book, but this one took me by surprise.
Rating: Summary: A flat not gripping story Review: I have read other work of the same author and this is not the expression of the Jeffrey Deaver I read and fully admire. The prose is very colloquial and the action packed suspense is not very well deeply developed. Characters are somewhat flat with the exception of Lis and Hrubek. I read the whole story but could put it down anytime in search for a better entertainment. This book is not at the same level of "A maiden's grave " and "The bone collector". The worst sin of this book is that I could not find it gripping
Rating: Summary: Unstoppable Read Review: I read this book in the short span on 5 hours. Although there might be some mistakes on the author's part about schizophrenia, this book was a terrific read! Full of many plot twists, a surprise ending (that I had a little trouble believing) and never-ending suspense, I would recommend this book for anyone looking for an entertaining story!
Rating: Summary: praying for action Review: I was devouring Deaver's titles, one after another because of his book "Devil's Teardrop". But I was really disappointed by P.F.S. The plot is slow moving. I'm one-third through and I'm not sure what Hrubek wants. I keep hoping for action and it was a big let down one after another--like watching a B-grade horror flick. It's been a month since I bought the book and I'm still unable to finish it. It's simply too tiring. Skip this. It really isn't one of Deaver's best works.
