Rating: Summary: Excellent Realism Review: Speaking as a former member of the military i can tell you that this book tells it like it is. Unlike some of the other books of this type where the author either A: is a reporter and never served in the military or B: The author thinks that he is the best that ever was and that he was never afraid. The B type are usually entertaining but not very real. This is a great daily account of Gary's 1st tour in Vietnam. He tells it like it is from the rides to town through sniper fire to get a beer to the death the he caused and witnessed in the jungle. I have read many books about the Navy Seals both A and B versions and in my opinion this book is in a class by itself.
Rating: Summary: Very descriptive, but also very repetitive Review: The book was very good and descriptive, almost too descriptive in some parts, but it was also very repetitive. I really got tired of reading about overnight ambushes! All the missions described in the book, except a mere 1, was part of an overnight ambush. Very well written though.

Rating: Summary: I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book showed how boring ambushes could be for hours and then full of adrenaline and excitement the next moment. I could not put this book down for three days. It is one of the best books I have read about Navy SEALs in Vietnam. I would definitely recommend buying this book.
Rating: Summary: Very Good and Enlightening Book Review: This book was one of the best books I've read about the Navy SEALs in combat. The author did a good job in letting his audience know what he was feeling at the time. Yeah, the missions got a little repetitive, but that's life, thing get repeated. This wasn't some fiction book where the author could make every mission different from the others. Overall I think the book did about as good a job as any book could do to show people what being a SEAL was like.

Rating: Summary: A teriffic first-hand account of SEAL life in Viet Nam Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read about the Vietnam War. It is given first-hand by a Navy SEAL. Gary holds nothing back in this book, he honestly shares his thoughts and feelings about situations that he finds himself in. This book made me laugh and cry and very angry with the VC. I have never read a book as well written as this, it's the kind of book that one can't put down once you start reading it!
Rating: Summary: This is as real as it gets without all the baloney! Review: When Gary and I sat down to write DEATH IN THE JUNGLE and the sequels, we pledged ourselves to writing about his experiences in Vietnam as a Navy SEAL the way it really was. The truth, and only the truth, would give the world an accurate account of a tough man in a tough war. We are pleased that almost 80,000 DEATH IN THE JUNGLE books have been sold (not to mention the other two books) and that so many have enjoyed the true stories of Gary's ops. I assure you, we didn't write just a shoot-em-up book, but a book full of compassion, tenderness and emotion, too. That's why this book has done so well and has been so enjoyed. We hope all of our readers have received a good look at the way things really were, and have been touched by the events of Gary's life as a SEAL along the way. If you haven't read DEATH IN THE JUNGLE, please pick up a copy and get a close look at a war hero's life in the swamps and ambush sites of the Rung Sat Special Zone. This book will grab you and give you a deep respect for ways our Navy SEALs must risk their lives for our country. Blessings, Alan Maki, co-author
