Rating: Summary: Unless you're a Mafia junkie, don't bother. Review: Most of this book is filler. I mean, sure it's nice to read about Holywood scum and big breasted Vegas showgirls, but when a novel is touted as Mario Puzo's triumphant return to the realm of the Mafia, one expects.. well... one expects the Mafia. The sheer volume of wasted characters that fill this novel is astounding. I mean, we read about dentists and writers and whiney actors, all taking up valuable hit-time. Sure, there is a reason, though sloppy and forgotten about 75% of the way through the book, for Don Dom's 'foils,' a Vegas hotel owner and a major studio exec, but beyond them, the cast is simply too big. Perhaps I read this book too soon after reading the Godfather. There, minor charactors served a purpose. And the plot of The Last Don. Eew. Nothing happens until 100 pages from the end. Nothing. We miss out on a mobwar in 1965, and the 1996 'war' consists of only two, hackneyed killings (a cop and a mafioso... Hrm. Where has Puzo killed a pair of them before?). Final word is skip it. Sure, Puzo is good at what he does, but his genius seems horribly redirected in a vain attempt to live up to his past.
Rating: Summary: a typical mario puzo novel.excellent characters and plot. Review: being a puzo fan i found this book extremely good. a must read for all puzo fans.it has a bit of the godfather mafia saga as well as a romantic side. the character cross is very appealing.igive this book 5-stars.
Rating: Summary: This is probably the worst book I have ever read Review: I am surprised that I actually completed this nearly 500 page, albeit mostly filler, mess of a novel. The characters and plot are unbelievable even within a romanticized version of organized crime. A total waste of time.
Rating: Summary: This is probably the worst book I have ever read Review: I am surprized that I actually completed this book of nearly 500 pages, albeit most of these pages are filler. Characters and plot not based on even a romanticized version of organized crime. Completely unbelievable, and poorly written.
Rating: Summary: there's no last for life Review: i like it, the story focused on the feeling of the people there. and it very touch and explain about the whole story mean.
Rating: Summary: mario puzo the best writer in this milenium Review: thhis storyy is fantastic, we can see when the clericuzio kills their enemy. it's wow...
Rating: Summary: It was great! Review: I thought that this book was wonderful. Although it is very similar to the Godfather, it still had it's own plot and different twists. I am a huge Mario Puzo fan and found that this book was great and very hard to put down, I also can't wait for Mario's last book Omerta to come out. You must read this book!
Rating: Summary: Good, but not his best! Review: I think that the book, was good. It was not Puzo at his best, but the book still gives you a nice story, and unlike some of the other readers I don't think that he wrote it to be a Godfother, clone.
Rating: Summary: Huh? Review: This book is a bad GODFATHER clone, period. Mario Puzo knows it, too, but he also knows that people will eat it up. And eat it they did. Can he write about anything else? Geez, this was not half the novel THE GODFATHER was! Please, Mr. Puzo, stop embarassing yourself.
Rating: Summary: The Last Don is a fantasic book that anyone would enjoy. Review: After reading The Last Don, you figure out what a genieis that Mario Puzo is. He melds the storyline together so well while also keeping the characters real.
