Rating: Summary: Soap opera about mob Review: I love "The Godfather" movies, so I decided to give this one a shot. I'm sure now - those movies are great only beacause Coppola directed them. Puzo is an average writer. He knows who to tell the story fluently and that just about wraps it up. Everything else in this book stinks - annoying larger-then-life characthers, bad dialogues and predictable plot. After reading 1/4 of a book I knew what will happen at the end, and I am no Einstein, I admit. Soap opera about mob, is my definition of this novel. Easy to read, beyond belive and sometimes irritating.
Rating: Summary: Not the best but still enjoyable. Review: This book may not be the best novel by Mario Puzo, however, it gives me pleasure for its story about Hollywood and Mafia. The plot may be weak if you've read Godfather but I think you will still enjoy Puzo's genius in telling us the story that's always full of crimes, romance, suspense from the beginning to the end.
Rating: Summary: Almost but not as good as theGodfather Review: Mario Puzo has given us yet another crime masterpiece here. This time here we are following the story of the Clericuzio family. The book starts off with the christening of two cousins whose life from that point on will always be at odd with each other. the Don wants his family to become legitimate and tries to work at this becoming true. We get flasbacks at how the family won the great war against the Santadio family, but we also get to find out the price they paid for that victory. Of course this secret is the center of the animosity of the two cousins Cross and Dante. Dante grows up in the Dons house and follows in the family business while Cross grows up in Vegas with his dad, Pippi, the great "Hammer" of the family who led them to victory in the Santadio war. Cross goes into the movie business and finds out it is as cutthroat as the Mob while Dante becomes the new Hammer for the family. It is when Pippi is murdered that Cross investigates and finds out the truth of the murder and the family secret that leads to the final confontation in the book. The book flows along and is always entertaing to the reader. Once you get into it, it will be very hard to put it down
Rating: Summary: Best book ever!! Review: Instead of writing a whole review for this amazing book, I'm just going to leave it up to you to read. This story is so believable and by far my favorite book. Read it!!
Rating: Summary: tired and worn story line Review: this is the same old theme that Puzo is stuck on: a mafia family trying to go straight. Characters are unrealistic and as always larger than life. Unimpressive book.
Rating: Summary: Mario Puzo Has Done It Again With The Last Don! Review: I really enjoy Mr. Puzo's Writing's I admit that Omerta was one of the greatest books I have ever read but The Last Don was amazing, it follows the family of Don Domenic Clericuzio who was The Last Don to die, I hope I got this right. It then portrays the mafia side of the Motion Picture Industry, which follows Athena Aquitaine and all the phases she goes through from a Very Big Star and descends slowly. The Last Don is amazing! I loved it so much. I cannot wait for The Family by Mario Puzo in the fall.
Rating: Summary: Once you start you can't stop Review: Mario Puzo wrote an excellent story. It spans the life of two couins of the Clericuzio famile, Dante and Cross and their conflict. The "Last Don" has decided to take the famliy out of the illegal business and announces as such at the baptismal of the two boys. We then jump ahead 25 years and are taken through several flashbacks. This style of writing takes a bit getting used to, because the constant flashbacks make it a bit hard to keep track of the sequence of events. Nevertheless, Puzo covers several topics in this book, such as the struggle between the two young men, struggle between generations and he also introduces us to the corrupt world of Hollywood as well as to the difficulty of raising an autistic child. Read it. You will enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: Second only to the Godfather Review: For fans of the Godfather and Puzo, this book was thoroughly enjoyable. It had the same feel and magnitude of that timeless classic. The story centers on a new crime family and their branching into the world of Vegas Gambling and Hollywood. It is more of a West Coast mafia tale, and is pure entertainment. The first 80 pages are a little slow, but by the time you hit 100, you can't put the book down and very well may stay up far later than you had hoped for. Puzo weaves an exciting tale of complexity sure to delight crime family genre lovers...
Rating: Summary: Great book by the pro who left us so soon! Review: He should have writrten more books!
