Summary: Empty fluff
Review: I always read the books I buy right through. This one was really tough to finish. I bought the book because of the Stephen Covey endorsement but I was very disappointed. Perhaps it was the picture of the young (and green) looking authors that tainted my thinking ("how much could they know?") but there was little or no substance. No depth. Nothing powerful or memorable. Examples seemed to be restricted to their own business failings. The most annoying thing was the "BusinessThink" references right through as if they had invented this type of thinking. What a waste of time.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good chapter on curiosity.
Review: I read this book hoping to find some new information. The two concepts I enjoyed were "The soul of businessthink is curiosity" (Rule 2) and the example of the company, IDEO. The other concept was "Get evidence." Otherwise, I believe a book also endorsed by Dr. Stephen Covey, called Optimal Thinking -- How to Be Your Best Self by Dr. Rosalene Glickman is a superior title. Optimal Thinking is essential in individuals and organizations if they want to be their best, make the most of resources and opportunities and stop settling for second best.

Summary: Decision making at its best
Review: It was obvious that in reading this book that the authors have built their premise for the book based on their failure and success that they have experienced. There is a formula for making decisions that is applicable to business and personal decisions.

Summary: A rehash of a better book
Review: I guess that the fact that the third author in this book is Mahan Khalsa is because it is a rehash of his materials. These two authors don't seem very creative and most everything covered in the book is Mahan's. Mahan's name is in smaller print in the book than Marcum and Smith when it should have been the other way around.
I am surprised that the Franklin Covey corporation has authorized this book.
With that said, the book has some good ideas that could be of value although they must not be easy to implement since the authors have not helped their company, Franklin Covey become profitable as reported in a USA Today article.

Summary: BUY MAHAN KHALSA FIRST BOOK
Review: If you like something serious and practical I recommend you buy the book that MAHAN KHALSA one of the contributing author of previously wrote LET'S GET REAL or Let's not play. Its a much better book and more precise. Even better, get the audio tape or CD read by Mahan. I gave this book a real 5. businessThink is a real waste of money if you have read Mahan's first book which I rated a rare 5. I am real fan of FranklinCovey books besides other best selling books.

Summary: Strategy development in real time
Review: I am reading BusinessThink and believe it is one of the best business books I have ever read. The authors have created a framework that takes the best of what I learned in business school and integrated it into a step by step process to create a cohesive strategy. Many people that I work with belive that business strategy is a process of jumping off a cliff and then making the best of it. Instead the authors offer a structured, sound, and real-time decision framework that is rigourous by being data driven and flexible enough to recognize that there is more to success than data. Using thier approach will make a business executive more successful.

Summary: The secret is out
Review: The businessThink philosophy is about geting back to basics in an easy, methodical way. This book provides a foundation of principals that can be applied to many different scenarios (sales, finance, operations). These principals revolve around spending time on the right solution to meet a need..."no guessing"! In addition, checking your ego at the door is so important when trying to sell something...how many times have you said to yourself, "that guy was an idiot"? Would you buy from them? Probably not. businessThink provides the secrets to a successful sales team and high performing organization...I'm sorry that secret is out! Dave, Steve and Mahan, you just increased my competition! Bravo!

Summary: More hype and fluff than actual sound advice.
Review: I was so looking forward to this book as I have been devouring business books and magazines for the last 5 years as I have grown my business. I really enjoyed the Steven Covey book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and the book was marketed as the next Steven Covey book. How could I resist. I am almost done with the last chapter and I keep hoping that it will somehow redeem itself. So far, I am only glad that I don't work for any of the corporations described in the book. This is not a book that I would recommend to other entrepreneurs, but maybe corporate america with it's unique problems somehow can benefit from the ideas in the book.

Summary: Practical and powerful....just follow the rules
Review: businessThink is a very practical and powerful book. The 'rules' are simple enough. The challenge is in the execution....perfect practice makes perfect. These guys got it right. I would encourage anybody that deals with other people in whatever capacity (employee, supervisor, executive, customer, sales, marketing, laborer, professional)to read the book. Spend some time, don't rush through the concepts and lessons. Apply them to your own situation and I believe you too will be pleased with the outcome.

Nice job you guys!!

Summary: nothing there
Review: I listened to this whole thing on a long drive,
and I've NEVER experienced a business book with less in it. This is a bunch of sanctimonious ranting and raving and quasi-religious Utah-based moralizing dressed up as business tools. The irony is that there is no real thinking occurring in this book that seeks to make thinking sacred.
