Rating: Summary: This book is interesting from a medical standpoint only. Review: "The Eleventh Plague" is interesting only in its details of the dangers of bioterrorism. It has a poor writing style and the dialogue is extremely stilted. None of the characters is well-developed or even remotely human. The villain is a lunatic out of central casting. Naturally, his crazy mother made him the madman that he became. What an original plot line! The author knows his medicine, but if he wants to attempt fiction once again, he should learn how to write believable dialogue and how to create well-developed characters.
Rating: Summary: Great idea, baaaadly written Review: I've read this book twice now and keep thinking, "what a great idea, too bad the med guy didn't farm the idea out to someone who could write!" But he thought he did; wish he'd sent it to me. Ignoring all the trivial errors (misspellings of diseases, "North Ridge earthquake," calling the valley fever org. "cocci" when that term refers to all cocci forms of bacteria, "congenital arthritic hip" of Drew (think they meant congenital dysplasia causing the arthritis, not too many babies born with arthritis!), the faults in writing are amazing: rotten character development (for ex. Byrne is described in such detail at first encounter w/his pony tail, and when he has to cut it off, but do we ever hear about his pony tail again? So much for his Samson anguish), bringing up interesting points only to drop them (Kameron's taping of Byrne's comments at Mia's lecture, mention about doctoring them -- never shows up again), and leaden writing style.Guess there's going to be another book soon, maybe the Fifth Horseman? Hope these two get a better editor.
Rating: Summary: Starts with a BANG Ends with a FIZZLE Review: The first half of the book keeps you wanting to know what happens next. The last half keeps you wanting to know when you will be out of your misery. One of the most boring chase scenes and endings I have ever come across. What a disappointing ending to a fine start. Kind of like a Stephen King book where he goes on too long and ultimately loses the reader with a nonsense ending.
Rating: Summary: Not for the faint of heart... Review: This book was incredible. I read medical thrillers all the time and they don't usually get to me the way this one did. By the time I read the part about the itching disease, I was so scared that I started itching too and made myself break out in hives. Small price to pay though, because the book was so fantastic.
Rating: Summary: Gripping, scary, and a must-read Review: I was given this book by my brother-in-law, and not really sure I'd read it, but now I am really glad that I did. After reading books by James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Kathleen Reichs, and Robin Cook and thinking that I had read most of the best, I welcome Marr into that elite group. This book grabbed me from page one, and kept me reading until the very end. I truly hope there is a sequel, or that Marr and Baldwin intend to write more of this type with Byrne as the primary character. I passed this one on to other members of the family with highest recommendations. I truly recommend this to anyone who wants an enthralling, heart-stopping book to keep them up at night.
Rating: Summary: A HAD to put down book it was so frightening! Review: I am the type of person who once a book is started cannot put it down until it is read cover to cover. This book however, was so good I HAD to put it down after each chapter. The reality of how easy it would be for this book to be on the non-fiction list rather than the fiction list was startling and a bit nervewracking. The plot comes to a somewhat predictable conclusion but the journey there is a better thrill ride than any rollercoaster.
Rating: Summary: Truly the best education I've had since college. Review: Wow! This was a fantastic read. To be educated and entertained all at one time. I could not put it down. I truly hope there is a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Blood spurting, Terrorism, and a great thrill.... Review: although somewhat lacking in style. I enjoyed this book a lot because of the creativity and research that it took to make the 10 plagues of the old testament into current times. It is a great book to take on a vacation. I know one of the authors, and I can imagen him writing it and insisting on a lot of blood and guts. The plot is creative and suspenceful.
Rating: Summary: Not a "whodunnit", but "whereizit" Review: This is just the kind of book you need to read from the first page (or even from the blurb) to the last page - at least I did so within 31 hours (except for some 8 hours of sleep). It is so fascinating because of its realistic story and the up-to-date equivalence of the biblical plagues; a topic which has never been written about with more criminalistic thrill. Thanks to its hopeful main character you may well ignore the shivers up and down your spine and know deep in your heart that this time it will have a happy-end, after all the blurb promisses a sequel. And this knowledge prevents you from driving mad, turning into a hypochonder and fearing the threat of various plagues at your front door. So please, give me this sequel, and I will be happy to neglect my home and family again for some hours spent with excellent suspense.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful, interesting and very educational book Review: I totally enjoyed this book from cover to cover. It was a hard book to put down. I learned quite a bit about diffrent types of plagues and how they are spread. It was like taking a course in Plague101. I will look forword to finding this authors OOP book "The Black Plague"
