Review: I am an avid reader and have read many books. This is one of the worst books I have read. It is boring and has no meaning, in my opinion. My friend who also reads about 8 hours a week also thought it very dull. I do like the other authors books though. This just must not have been her best.

Summary: The Best Book Ever
Review: "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town" is a very good book. It made me laugh a lot. It kept my attention throughout the entire thing. I am not a very good reader and I don't read hardly ever, but this is the best book that I have ever read. If you ever just want to read a good book this is the one that you should read. This book is funny but also serious. It is telling about a couple of boys that are helping a kid that is overweight and in an exhibit. They bring him food and talk to him and just comfort him. It shows that no matter how old you are you can still help somone in need. It will make you think. I can't wait till I can get the sequel of this book.

Summary: The Ups and Downs of Growing Up
Review: This book wasn't one of the best books I've ever read, but I haven't read many previously, so other people might think otherwise. But I only gave this book one star. I did so because it's not very exciting, nor thrilling. Anyways, it's about a small town that got a big surprise. In Antler, Texas, nothing exciting happens. Until that is, the day Zachary Beaver came to town. A small tin trailer showed up one day containing the fattest boy in the world. Everyone in Antler knew about it. "$2.00 to see the fattest boy in the world! Step right up and feast your eyes on this feat!" Out of the whole town, there was only one boy, Toby, who didn't want to see him. His best friend Cal Knight, and a five-year-old brat, made him. At the time, Toby's mother was in Memphis at a contest, so she didn't get to see Zachary. Paulie Rankin, the sideshow operator, strands Zachary after a few days. Meanwhile, Toby and Cal make a new friend, and discover that life isn't all about having fun but that it can be serious too. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to sleep. This book to me is a pass out waiting to happen. Hope tired people enjoy this book.

Summary: Truly powerful, but winds down in cloying sitcom fashion
Review: Man, this book captured me...for the first 2/3rds. I didn't know just *how* deeply involved I was with the characters until a pivotal event (which the author handles *so* expertly) made me burst into tears. My reaction surprised me...until I realized the book had been sneaking up on me and subtly, skillfully pulling me into its world.But then Holt damages the emotional truth she's established by forcing the characters to perform selfless acts that don't ring true, ultimately compromising the book with sentimentality and a "good for you" ending. I wish she'd stuck to her guts.

Summary: Theres more to Zackary Beaver
Review: This took place at Antler, Texas. There was a boy named Toby Wilson, with his friend Cal. Toby's mother was in Nashville trying out for a contest for country music. Nothing much ever happened in Antler, Texas until today. There was a trailer that came from nowhere. People started to wonder why they were there for. So people started to crowded the trailer. In the trailer was an 15-year old boy named Zackary Beaver, which is also the fattest kid in the world. So they wanted to see want he looks like. They paid 2 dollars to see him. When they met him he was rude. Days past the trailer was still there. Later Toby and Cal were talking to Zackary. Then later they turned out being friends. They took him to the movies as friends. When Zackary had to leave Toby wanted to give him a gift. The gift was to get him baptize, since he never went to church, nor did get baptize. At the end Zackary left, with the best friends he ever had.

Summary: Definately worth reading
Review: I picked up this book because the cover looked interesting (really!) and I had read about it in a magazine. Toby Wilson is the narrator who lives in the boring town of Antler Texas in 1971. His mom is in Nashville pursuing her country music career. One day a trailer arrives in the Dairy Maid (local restaurant) parking lot advertising Zachary Beaver, the fattest boy in the world. Toby and his friend Cal go to check it out. It turns out not to be such a boring summer after all. I really enjoyed this book. You get to know and love the characters, which are very interesting and all have their own quirks. It starts off pretty boring but I was compelled to keep reading just by the first page. The book is sometimes laugh out loud funny. The author is very very good at showing the characters' emotions - sometimes they surprise you. I can't wait to see what else this author will write.

For example, when Zachary gets out of his trailer so he can go watch a drive in movie. The guy that Zachary was with had people pay 2 dollars for people to see him. I thought that was wrong because people shouldn't take other peoples money just to see an overweight kid. People that like suspense would want to read this book and also teenagers. Review: Life with Zachary Beaver
By: Kimberly Willis Holt When Zachary Beaver Came to Town is about a fat 15- year old, Zachary Beaver coming to town. People visit him from all over the world. Zachary Beaver lives in a trailer with an assistant to help him.
Toby lived in Antler, which is a town that never has exciting until Zachary Beaver came. Toby?s mom went to Nashville to be in a contest for country music. Toby?s best friend?s brother went of to Vietnam to fight in the war. Until Zachary Beaver came to town Toby has lots of things planed for summer. Zachary was a mad, mean, angry person. He never went anywhere because he was to embarrass to be seen with anyone. Toby helped him by taking him food and going to a movie. Zachary tells Toby and Cal, who is Toby?s best friend, that he visited Florida and other places exciting but really happened is he was just looking at books to think that he did.
I liked this book because again it talked about friendship, love, caring, and responsibility. Toby did that he helped Zachary out and Zachary appreciated that.
I think there are lots and lots of books that talk about friendship and caring. Hope was Here is a book that was an adventure of two sisters developing friendship.
I really enjoyed this book a lot. I recommend it to anyone.

Review: It's a quiet day in a small town, when a car pulling a trailer pulls into a parking lot. Written on the trailer is "The Worlds Fattest Boy." As fast as the car pulled in a crowd came.
This story is about a boy named Toby, his friend Cal, and the fattest boy in the world, Zachary. Toby's life is changed throughout the book because of sad, happy, and tragic things that happen. His best friend, Cal, has a brother, Wayne, in the Vietnam War. Cal gets letters from Wayne and reads them as soon as he can to Toby.
Zachary is said to be the fattest boy in the world, but he is not. He becomes a friend with Toby and Cal, so they take him places. Cal snoops Zachary's trailer, to find Zachary's Bible, but it doesn't have his Baptism information. Cal and Toby have a plan to get him baptized, but will need Kate, Cal's sister, to get him to go.

Review: ...P>This book is a somewhat funny book and Kimberly Willis Holt is very descriptive.You feel like you are there when it is happening. I recommend When Zachary Beaver Came to Town to anyone who needs a good book . This book has won the National Book Award. Kimberly Willis Holt is also the author of My Louisiana Sky. I did like this book because there are some great characters and they explained a great deal. This book has different emotions such as delight and fury.
