Rating: Summary: This book is a tremendous gift of insights into weight loss. Review: I have struggled with a "weight problem" for all of my adult life. This extraordinarily generous book is a gift of insight and heart. Laurel Mellin takes the reader, very consciously, step by step, into the essence of why she (or he) turned to food for emotional solace (ie the causes of weight gain). Then the author unfolds the cures which directly address the respective causes. The book is so beautifully laid out and down to earth. I have joined a group "online", having failed to find a group in my area. I recommend this format very highly as a wonderful way to get support for your journey into this book of self discovery and recovery.
Rating: Summary: Perhaps even better than the book. Review: I first read the book and found it to be the best discussion of the emotional aspects of obesity that I have read. It is the only weight contol book that I deem appropriate to sell in my medical office. Since I spend a fair amount of time in my car, I thought I might give the cassettes a try. Usually I expect a book on tape to lose much of the impact and content. In this case I was elated to find that the tapes may have even more impact than the text. If you are an emotional eater, I recommend that you first read the book, then listen to these audio tapes over and over until the concepts sink in... and then sign up for a Solution Program course.
Rating: Summary: This program helps us find balance in life. Review: Almost a year ago this book started me on a long process in which I slowly regained control of the various areas of my life. My weight slowly slipped down to the weight recommended by my doctor, and has stayed there. I feel so much more able to cope with the avoidable pain of life without resorting to the famous Chocolate Cure... I am actually looking forward to going through the holidays with these new skills to guide me.The book provides a an outline of the skills needed to work this program successfully. I was unable to go to one of the groups given by the author, but was happy to learn that I could order the same material used in the group (a series of workbooks and tapes). I have completed several months of what they call self study, and the rewards just seem to keep growing daily as my skills become more and more honed...and they are custom made to fit my needs. I highly recommend this program to anyone who feels at all confused, perplexed, or distraught about weight and life management issues.
Rating: Summary: This book truly contains the answers I'd been searching for. Review: I have searched for years to find out why I'm the way I am. Laurel Mellin hits the nail on the head every time, and in every aspect. People who've been overweight for a long period of time know that there is something wrong deep inside. You know it, you feel it, you eat like it. This book teaches you how to go inside and find the problem, and to deal with it the way it needs to be dealt with. I cannot recommend it enough. It is a "must read" for anyone with a serious and long term weight problem. You'll actually thank God you found this book.
Rating: Summary: The Book and The Program are a Gift! to Dieters! Review: I can't say enough about what this book and Laurel's program have done for me and others who are lucky enough to live in an area where "Solution Groups" are held. I have lost about 25 pounds, in the last 5 months WITHOUT DIETING. Also, I feel great and have moved forward in many other areas of my life. The book is easy to read and makes so much sense. It is a loving tribute to the need for all of us to learn how to nurture ourselves in ways that we have never known. I urge anyone with chronic weight issues to pick up a copy. If you follow the program, you will never regret it.....it's transformational!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book is more about a philosophy of living then about dieting- a great change of direction for those of us who have unsuccessfully gone the dieting route! It is helping me get in touch with the feelings that I stuff when I eat. The book felt like it was written for me, about me and with me in mind. So much of it adressed what I always knew in my heart to be true but could not figure out how to express. It is nice to see that someone has finally realized that it is now just about diet and exercise but that there is more to a healthy life style
Rating: Summary: That reader from New Jersey is crazy....... Review: I have been a emotional overeater all my life and when I first hear about this book I thought ..here we go again. I read the article in shape magazine and had to buy the book. What a wonderful book. The author must be a very loving and compassionate woman to be able to understand what we emotional overeaters go through and how little we feel when we eat... It is the first book that makes any sense and makes me feel like I have been listened to.

Rating: Summary: A great book.A must read for all frustrated with wt loss Review: An amazing book.......I do not understand what that person from New Jersey was talking about. Obviously they were an emotional over eater if it drove them to ice cream after the first chapter. They just have so much emotional baggage they don't want to talk about it. This book really makes you think about what drives you to over eat and ways to keep from doing so. It is wonderful and a must read. It will not only help with over eating but with the rest of your life. /the concepts are easy (even though, as humans I know it is hard to change). I have been on every diet program one can imagine and this one is the first that makes sense!!!!!!!
