Summary: TERRIBLE
Review: The Egypt Game - A book you most certainly don't want to read. Don't waste your time on this book, it is terribly boring with an immense lack of detail. Also, the story plot is excruciatingly slow. I wouldn't recommend this book to anybody - if ever tempted to read this book, please pass it up quickly!

First of all, the book bored many other readers and me. The author portrayed no real emotions from the characters, or in fact any of the events. To me, the characters were all bland and lifeless. It was impossible to enjoy the book when characters such as April and Melanie were staring at you from the book. I felt that the characters were flat, like a piece of paper, and not a true human being. There was no possible way to connect with any of them, impossible to sympathize with them, laugh with them, or feel any sorrow for them. The lack of action was also incredibly boring. The little action at the end tortured me from the terrible style it was written in. The only action during the middle of the book was a murder that I could barely remember happening. No body should have to read a book as boring as this.

I was also amazed at the miniscule amount of details. This may be part of what made the book so boring. The descriptions were not very detailed at all. I could not put myself in Egypt or imagine any actions or anything. The same things go for the characters. I could not imagine meeting them in real life, because they were not described in great detail. It is totally impossible to enjoy a book with characters you can not imagine and places you can not see. The little action was also not imaginable - and terribly non-detailed. I was not able to feel any panic for the characters, because I hardly knew the characters. I didn't have time to get caught up in the action, if I could, because it was so short. Why, I recently read a book that spent a paragraph describing the way a lady smoked a cigarette. I could really picture her brightly painted fingers flick the lighter on. It's those details that really make a book, and that this book truly lacked. Along with my peers I need more details to imagine, understand and enjoy a book

Finally, the book had a very slow plot. There was no action until the end. For a book to keep readers interested there has to be a lot of action with the plot rapidly moving along. There was much too much "preparation" or useless facts leading up to the final scene. The preparation added to the boredom and was totally unnecessary. I might be appreciative of the extra details, but these were mainly scenes that were purely space fillers. UGH!

I definitely would not recommend this book. It was totally boring, with no details and a slow plot. Anyone reading this would be wasting their time entirely. If, in search for good literature, please don't even look at this books cover

Summary: As wonderful as I remember
Review: I read this book when I was in the fourth grade. (My best friend and I were reading through the shelf of award winners.) She read it next. As soon as she finished the book, we set up our own game, a cross between the Egypt Game and what we'd understood from her older sister's class production of Macbeth. We had hours of fun playing that way, and I loved having a book that showed characters who played imaginatively. (And there aren't that many role models who don't spend all their time on their computers or on the organized sports field these days. See the preceding review from the person who said that she didn't like the way the characters used too much "ammagination." <sigh> I ordered this book recently to read aloud to my third graders, and they loved it! Now there are several Games going on in our neighborhood. The book was as good as I remembered it.

Summary: Inspiring book!
Review: I think the Egypt Game is a very inspiring book because it makes you want to have a game of your own. It gives you ideas for your own game like wearing costumes, making gods, trying oracles, believing in spirits, playing in a very secret place, and keeping it all a secret is the most fun of all! This book is very mysterious and makes you want to keep reading for hours and hours and plus it inspires you to read other books. I think any child who is always bored, or loves reading mysterious books, or never likes doing anything should read this book. Like I said, "It's very inspiring!"
