Summary: wider horizons of the soul in the new millenium
Review: It's easy to fall asleep while reading mind numbing books on psychology or philosophy, by contrast, reading Zukav's Soul Stories is like being punched in the heart in a healing, enlightening way. At times you will be embarrased, shamed, recognizing how you have been mistreating others. At more times, you will be thrilled out of your skin as wider, more beautiful horizons open to your sight. Using the device of brief stories Zukav delivers inescapable insights showing who we are is far more than the suit or dress we wear. No matter how little we have acknowledged it, he leads us to accept our innermost being as eternal soul. Old roles, the male as protector and provider, female as child-bearer and homemaker, are being left behind as growth of soul becomes our primary motivation. Nevertheless, this reviewer has to say that accepting soul growth as the major direction for our lives is not the way to get there. Those whom we regard as the noblest, be they a Mother Teresa or Abraham Lincoln, did not sit around thinking how they could polish their souls, but forgot themselves in heart-felt service to the needy.

Summary: Great insightful book
Review: I found this latest book by Zucav to be a gem! The "stories" are written so that one could even do one reading a week, as I believe there are 52 stories here.

Zucav delves into his own personal story here and relates many of these stories to events in his own personal life, which I found very down to earth. One can easily relate to his fears and struggles and applauds him on his growth as he moves through his struggles.

I found these stories to be heart-warming and a great help to me. I especially liked the new man and new woman stories. Relating to a significant other can be so much better and so much more nurturing following the examples in this book.

I highly recommend this book and find personally, that this book contains a WEALTH of information. So much so, that I really needed to read this book a second time to totally comprehend and digest it all.

I found this book much more informative than Seat of the Soul.

Summary: ...
Review: When I bought this book, the reviews here were pretty good. I have not read anything else by Mr. Zukav. I bought this because of the sales pitch he gave. I really wish I hadn't. If you are not enlightened by 'You can't have your cake and eat it too' then you will not benefit by this book. I would like my money, time and hope back from this book.

Summary: Oh no - not again and again and again and again
Review: What a strange book. I didn't like it. It seemed so vague and so "out there". A major disappointment after Seat of the Soul. I know it is dubbed, Seat of the "Soul for Dummies" but it seemed to me to be more like, "Seat of the Soul Jumps onto the Commercial Bandwagon". The over-personification of objects and repetitiveness of his text irritated me (but not to the point that I wished to peel off another layer and over-analyse my emotions!)

Maybe I am just a regular emotional highly unevolved human being. No matter. I like being a soul - it's just that I LOVE the complex drama that life is and all it's accompanying emotions. I wouldn't want to evolve to the stage where I say (or hear from my partner) the words Linda Francis said to Gary Zukav while discussing his call to his ex-fiancee. Puh-leeeze. Let me remain unevolved.

The charachters in his stories who got the elusive big picture struck me as overly sentimental or just plain sterile (sort of like the charachters you see in a dreadful made-for-TV film) so much so that they came off as humorless, uninteresting and dare I say it- almost without soul.

Summary: Soul Stories
Review: This book is a major waste of time. In "Seat of the Soul" Zukav is fascinating, making one wonder how a mere mortal could have such insights into the metaphysical world. "Soul Stories" is pointless, boring, like those papers we all wrote at the last minute in college....merely words on paper with no meaning. I saw this guy on Oprah, wearing this look of enlightened bliss talking about what soul stories are. Makes for good daytime TV hype, but that's about it. Do not buy this book, I kept reading while expecting it to get good....it simply doesn't. Sorry, Mr. Zukav, no warm fuzzies on this one.

Summary: Soul Stories is Lacking Soul
Review: It is difficult to believe this is the same author of Seat of the Soul. That was a truly great book. The author seems to have lost his way and the book flounders about with lots of small talk. Truly a great disappointment.

Summary: Overrated
Review: I feel that this book is overrated and that it is receiving the rave reviews simply because Oprah recommends it and raves about it.

I will say that I did not read "Seat of the Soul" and I realize that this book is the follow-up to it. Perhaps the first book has the detail I was looking for, but this book in and of itself is much too general and theoretical to put into practice. It touched on some of Gary's ideas but it did not explain how to apply them or how to go about changing yourself. It's as if you have to figure that out by yourself; yet most people are buing the book for just that kind of information.

I actually laughed at the story of Casper, a man who refused to give up digging for what he was looking for. This chapter was supposed to define INNER richness -- how we should never give up, keep on digging, and how we should look inside ourselves to learn. How does that compare to a man who was digging for gold - an EXTERNAL richness! The whole point of the book is that external things do not provide authentic power or riches and then Gary used a man digging for gold as an example!

The book certainly did not help me "discover my own soul stories and the truths they reveal about the deepest sources of my being" as the review on the cover claims. I was very disappointed after reading it.

Summary: I'm glad this book was written
Review: I have tried to read "Seat of the Soul" twice over the past five years. Each time, I felt I was unsuccessful in getting the full point of Zukav's message. So, I'm glad that he wrote this "Seat of the Soul for Dummies" like me! Actually the book isn't for dummies...what it does successfully is take the principles of "Seat" and use real-life examples to illustrate them. Now I understand them. And now, I'm looking forward to going back to "Seat of the Soul" and reading it with greater understanding. Thanks Gary!

Summary: Warm and Engaging - A True Eye-Opener
Review: This book really grabbed me and I could not put it down. Gary Zukav has a wonderfully warm and engaging way of introducing such topics as awareness, intuition, forgiveness and true partnership and spiritual growth. His real life stories allowed me to see a piece of myself in each of his characters as he presents, one by one, the tools for self-discovery and continued personal growth.

One little example he gave made a particular impression on me, maybe because it was so simple and seemingly insignificant: He was recounting how he was driving on the street, upset about a slow driver ahead of him. Then, pulling up closer, he realized that it was a good friend of his and his attitude changed immediately, because he knew and cared about this person and he was so much more to him than just a slow driver. How often do I judge or get angry without knowing, without compassion for the other person, and make his or her life and mine miserable by doing so? I had never quite looked at it from this particular perspective and new ways of being have opened up for me.

Another eye-opener that I have very much enjoyed reading is the book by Ariel and Shya Kane "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work". What a great book! The authors have the ability to put mind-blowing ideas into simple language and to communicate clearly, with tenderness and compassion. Personal experiences are interspersed with suggestions how to take a new, fresh look at life. Their idea of full self expression by living in the moment is truly fascinating and has allowed me to rid myself of all kinds of ballast that I used to carry around and considered an integral part of me.

After having read the book, I wanted more and bought two of their tapes, "Magical Relationships" and "More Magical Relationships". They were both wonderful and record real interactions with participants of courses they have leaded. I felt very touched by their gentleness, their humor and their ability to listen, and I felt very inspired by those tapes - inspired to look at my life and to make the most out of it by using the magical tool of awareness. I guess my next tape purchase will be "Completing Your Karma" and I am looking forward to meeting Ariel and Shya Kane on yet another adventure into the moment.

Summary: Easier to comprehend than Seat of the Soul-SUPERB!
Review: Having read SEAT of the SOUL before it became the trendy thing to do, I enjoyed it but thought it was a bit difficult to get through. SOUL STORIES is wonderful and much easier to comprehend.

The stories all flow with reality and an understanding that is ever present yet not always visible. There is a gentlier format in this title for "getting it", and an array of universal feelings and topics.

The sharing of the life stories allows the reader an insightful posture into the basic human relationships between us all.

This book was easy to understand, accept and digest. You will walk about with your own sense of a deeper soul. EXCELLENT BOOK!
