Rating: Summary: A long ride to nothing Review: "The Day After Tomorrow" speaks the language of the thrillers and can be put in the same line of Frederick Forsyth's blockbusters "The Day of the Jackal" and "The Odessa File", however "The Day after Tomorrow" is unable to attain the outstanding quality of the mentioned Forsyth's masterpieces. It is a very long book with and intricate plot, breakneck pace and too many twist and turns (just too many, one gets tired of them) as well as a lot of action packed suspense in short time spans. Characters pop up and disappear more than often murdered, obviously with an explanation not credible enough, showing a poor writing style. Though Mr Forsyth wrote few thrillers, they were terrific and released after a long and thorough research for the delight of his readers. Conversely, this Folsom's book is just the conception of a plain far fetched childish fantasy about a German neo nazy conspiracy for a new Reich resurgence and employs the old worn formula "the good guys" taking on the "bad guys "playing a sort of chess game and a long tiresome chase throughout the whole book which seems never ending.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Reading! Review: I bought this because it sounded interesting. WOW! I am an avid reader and love "suspense" stories, and this book is at the top of my list. I disagree with one reader who said that it started with a bang and then slowed down. In my opinion, it never slowed down, instead kept building the suspense. So what if it is an unbelievable storyline? I always felt that books are a means of being transported from the present to another time, or world, and this book did an excellent job of transporting me. I gave up 4 hours of sleep over two nights to finish it, because I just COULD NOT put it down! Excellent book!
Rating: Summary: Held my interest but flat ending Review: I am purposely writing this review before I read any other the others. The book was very powerful and did a good job of developing the characters as the story proceeded. In many books with lots of characters I have to go back to figure out who is who - not in this one. I recognized them by name from the beginning. The story held my interest up to the last page, but the ending was very disapointing because it was obvious from about half way through. I kept hoping for a new twist that would be a surprise, but no. Dispite being very predictable it makes a good action adventure movie type read.
Rating: Summary: The best book I ever read! Review: This book is excellent! I read it about 4 years ago. I still think about it often. The ending was excellent. I have read hundreds of books, but none compare to this one!
Rating: Summary: Started fast, but ended slowly... Review: I've read many of the reviews below, and I must admit that I agree with both the people who loved The Day After Tomorrow and the people who were bored. This book started with a bang. The first 25% was incredibly riveting. But then it began to slow down, and (like others have said) became hard to believe. It's like the book Cold Fire (by Dean Koontz). That book was just as exciting at the beginning. But then became too fantastic and went on too long.
Rating: Summary: SENSATIONAL!!! Review: I picked this book up on Friday evening and never put it down until Saturday morning! A cracker of a read. Folsom introduces us to a modern day Germany scorned with its past. A gripping read that is no doubt a best seller. For all you suspense addicts out there I say one thing - go and get this book!
Rating: Summary: In one word: HYPNOTIZING (!) Review: Amazing, hypnotizing, whatever you call it - you won't be sleeping the first night after you finish the book. Don't dare looking at the last line before you get to it - it's shocking as if someone was there with a gun at your temple. The first 3 hundreds are very well, but from there on, it's just getting more and more suspensing and impossible to stop reading. A flawless thriller that will surely keep you awake till dawn. At least it kept me :)
Rating: Summary: Good story, but the author should have done some research... Review: ...on the german comments he threw in from time to time. Most of the time they are just out of date (nobody talks like that in Germany) and sometimes they are completely wrong grammatically. But otherwise I thought it was a pretty exciting book to read. But hey, just that you all know: Germans are not all still waiting for Hitlers return! The book might give you the impression :-)
Rating: Summary: GOOD BOOK (but too long!) Review: This book has a wonderful plot and was extremely suspenseful! I enjoyed the story very much. The characters were interesting and complex, particularly Osborn, McVey, Monneray, Noble and Merriman/Kanarack. However, in my opinion, there were too many characters who were not essential to the story. About two-thirds of the way through the book, the plot began to drag, the action came to a standstill, boredom set in, and I felt that a lot of the story could have been omitted entirely. I learned too much about a lot of issues and not nearly enough about others (such as more background on Paul Osborn). It seemed as if I were reading an earlier draft of a proposed novel (before rewrite), rather than the final print. At least 200 pages could have been cut and the plot tightened up, without any loss of continuity. Good story--but much too long!
