Rating: Summary: Excellent page-turning thriller Review: This is a fast-paced gripping novel. The action quickly begins on the first page and then picks up speed until the end. DO NOT READ the last page ahead. The ending is truly a cliffhanger of an ending. If you like stories with a WWII/Nazi/Modern-era setting, this is a must read. Just be prepared to lose sleep and work time, because you will not want to put this book down!
Rating: Summary: Among the best thrillers ever written Review: I am a fan of the thriller genre, and picked this up on a whim. I have never been more satisfied with one of my purchases in my life. I was unable to put this book down from the time I started it. This book has it all good writing, great characters, murder, romance, and some very immoral villians. The plot line of the story is about the nazi party's attempt to rebuild itself. One of their most important tasks is to build themselves the perfect leader. These people will stop at nothing to accomplish this task no matter how many people die in the process. To say more about the plot would destroy it. All I can say is buy this book. Even if you do not consider yourself a thriller fan this book will captivate you.
Rating: Summary: The Day After Tomorrow Review: This was just the best book I have ever read! Never has a book had me so on edge!! The final page 'blew me away'.....
Rating: Summary: Don't read the last chapter! Review: There are few books I've read, where the last chapter is a cliff hanger. This is definetely one of them. It is a thick book but an easy read. The beginning events and the end of the book are so isolated from each other that when the author links them together, the book becomes an exciting page turner.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: While discussing the topic of favorite authors with a passenger on a recent flight (mine being Micheal Connelly), I was told that if I enjoyed a good......no a great mystery, then I must do myself the favor of reading this wonderfully crafted masterpiece. I must say that after having read it, I just could not believe how much I enjoyed every page of the book. For those who don't have a clue as to what the story is about, know this: A ten year old boy witnesses the cold blooded murder of his father. Now fast forward to the present. The same "boy" is now in his early 30's sitting at a cafe in Paris. Who does he catch with the corner of his eye? .... I have no doubt in my mind that whoever enjoys a great mystery will not be able to resist the captivating story telling skills of Allan Folsom. Do yourselves the favor (just as I have) of picking this one up and be ready for one heck of a ride!
Rating: Summary: Trite, stilted style, over-done and absurd. Review: If you are looking for good writing, or believable characters, or subtle insight into human motives, or even just a good, interesting yarn...then run as far from this book as you can! Apparently, Folsom thinks he knows something about psychology, science & technology, weapons, and police work. And perhaps he does know more about those things than he knows about writing...but he's very weak in all of them! This book deserves to be edited down to about 15 pages, and then burned.
Rating: Summary: Conspiracy thriller--good light read Review: Pretty decent, quick read. Don't read many reviews, or as one reader put it, or you may just spoil the climax. Hardly believable, but that's what escapism fiction is all about. If you enjoy Ludlum thrillers, you'll probably get a kick out of this. Don't think too much, or you may blow the "clincher" by the time you're half way there.
Rating: Summary: Best ever! Review: From the moment I started reading this book, I could not put it down! This is seriously one of the best books I've ever read, and I've recommended to many friends who have loved it, also. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Unputdownable Review: I am reading the day after tomorrow and i am a high school senior who hates to read. i cannot put this down and i love it.
Rating: Summary: starts well, then disappoints Review: I should start off by saying that I truely enjoyed Folsom's second novel "Day of Confession" (see my review) and that was the reason to pick up his first work. This book starts off just as engaging and wraps the reader into a very complex plot that begins to span multiple European locations and intersting characters. The plot overall starts off very well designed and the main charcter of Paul Osborn in his personal quest to find answers to his father's murder 30 years ago comes across as quite engaging. Also the character of McVey, the American policeman, is well drawn. The characters are definitely not the problem here, neither is it Folsom's ability to move through foreign and complex locations with ease. Their are well researched in their physical detail. The story really begins to disappoint when he starts to unfold the Nazi conspiracy and the whole plot moves to Germany. I am German and found his unrealistic, twisted and sad description of post-reunification Germany quite appaling. The inserted bits of German language are lame, inappropiate and in later parts mostly wrong. Germans don't speak like that! Most of all: we don't act like that!
