I found that towards the end of the book, I kept slowing down so I wouldn't finish it...I wanted it to go on and on. The book was a lesson on love, forgiveness, and looking deep within oneself....all of which we strive for in our lives. Kristen Hannah helps us to remember that life is precious, and we can't afford to waste one minute of the time we are given.

Except for a few necessary breaks I didn't put it down until I finished the final page. Lunch was a peanut butter sandwich, dinner for my husband didn't exist. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the style and story and sentiment of this book. Kristin captured so perfectly what it is like to make a choice and to have to live with that choice; both from the viewpoints of mother and child. The love between mother and child is a special bond and I am so fortunate to be able to share that with my children.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Summer Island Review: I really enjoyed SUMMER ISLAND. My mother died 30 years ago at the age of 58 and I still miss her. I have two daughters and I have always tried to be there for them. It's amazing what good came from all the bad things that happened to Nora. I'm glad that she was able to overcome them and explain to Ruby and Caroline what had happened and why. Eric and Dean were an added bonus.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Summer Island Review: I was a late discoverer of Kristin Hannah, "On Mystic Lake" being the first book of hers that I read. Upon finishing it, I insisted that all my friends read it, and proceeded to read some of her earlier works. I thoroughly enjoyed "Once Again" and "If You Believe", and she has definitely captured my admiration even beyond expectations with "Summer Island". Kristin has such a knack for grabbing you by the heart and not letting go until you reach the end of the journey. Her characters are SO real and unforgetable. It's the old story of hating to see the book come to an end and saying good-bye to the characters you have come to know so well. I thank you, Kristin Hannah, for again taking me to a place that I will never forget. I eagerly await your next book, and the next, and the next.....
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: It touched me Review: When a new Kristin Hannah book hits the bookstore I buy it and this book even surpassed her previous ones. It truly celebrates mother daughter relationships. I cried, I laughed and loved every page of it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Took My Breath Away Review: Summer Island touched my soul where the most precious memories of my Mother and Daughter are stored. "A daughter without her Mother is a woman broken." Those words are so profound it takes my breath away. Kristin Hannah reaches down and grabs my emotion and does not let go until the end. A wonderful gift in a writer!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: kristin hannah knows how to write Review: I read a lot. I will add Kristin Hannah to my list of good writers. I enjoyed 'Summer Island'very, very much. This writer makes her characters alive and her story line is so good. I will read her other books. Mothers and daughters often have a hard time understanding each other. I think this is because sometimes we, as women expect each other to be something we can't be. It then takes away from who we are. Kristins story expresses this so well and we can learn by reading 'Summer Island'. I find her book comparable to Mauve Binchy , Rosamund Pilcher and Anne Rivers Siddons. Jeanne Sigmon, El Paso, Tx

I own all of Kristin Hannah's books and love them all, each for different reasons. This book was very special. I love the mother/daughters relationship. I love how complex the characters were and how there were no real clear-cut good and bad people in the relationships... how sometimes, choices give way to unforeseen consequences. For those who have read Kristin Hannah's other books, you know she often has recurrent characters in her books. Val and Julien (from Home Again and Angel Falls) make a cameo. It is a tear-jerker but not because of the life-altering moments of the book, but there are such quiet, sneak-up-on-you scenes that really touched me. It's the quiet details that really make a book more complex and extraordinary.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: READ WITH UNDERSTANDING AND WARMTH Review: Mother/daughter relationships can be strained or loving. They are both in Kristin Hannah's "Summer Island," a story of relationships, of rancor and forgiveness. Joyce Bean gives a subtly nuanced reading of this family drama. Ruby has never forgiven Nora, the mother who deserted her. Years later Nora has achieved success - she's a nationally syndicated columnist and talk show host whose advice is steeped in old-fashioned family values. On the other hand, Ruby's career as a comedian is going nowhere but down. When news leaks about Nora's past, Ruby has an opportunity to make a tidy sum by writing a tell-all tale. However, accidents do happen, and Nora is injured in one. She needs someone to take her to the family's former island retreat. Thus, Ruby and Nora are thrown together after all the years of bitterness. Will their physical closeness bring about an emotional rapprochement?
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: grab a tissue!! Review: This is one of those books that you wish would never end. It truly strikes a chord and touches you. By the end I was in tears....happy and sad. Home Again by Kristin Hannah touched me the same way. This woman can really write in a beautiful way that you remember long after you close the book.
