Rating: Summary: a nice book, by a great first lady Review: a kind spirited read, a pager turner, a literary testament to an amazing life.
Rating: Summary: A Warm and Interesting Look Review: After reading this book, her husband's second book, and finally her second memoir, I did have a profound respect for her dignity, love for her family, and stamina. This book was an easy read and was absolutely fascinating to go along on exotic trips and learning about the side kick's day to day existence as wife to President. The book made me admire the Bush's as a couple more, the love for their kids and each other, and their principles, even if I did not agree with all of the latter.

Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Mind Review: After reading this book, I was reminded of Richard Nixon's famous remark; "there's a woman who knows how to hate!" I've never seen a person (outside of her own son, G.W.,) with a more deceptive public persona. Maybe Kitty Kelly will one day take a crack at writing a more true to life portrayal of this hateful harridan.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but she's no Woodward & Bernstein. Review: Barbara Bush is a wonderful reader and she tells a good story. She is candid (to a point) about her own failings and doesn't mind ignoring things that are personal and not going to be covered. She make no apologies for this. She is the kind of person I would like to go out and have tea with ! Why oh why, do the nicest people have the worst politics ?
Rating: Summary: A laugh out loud , lively and poignant read Review: Barbara Bush: A Memoir is an insightful peek into the former First Lady's life, from childhood to the White House. There are stories that will make you laugh out loud (such as Bush Sr peeing out of the window so he wouldn't wake up his mother-in-law when using the bathroom at night) and stories that will make you cry (such as Robin's struggle with leukemia). Mrs. Bush also includes brief histories, as well as her thoughts, of people she's met: ambassadors, prime ministers, dictators, and a seemingly never-ending list of major figures in every industry.Mrs. Bush is an avid reader and a great lover of books so she'll sometimes mention some of the books she's read at certain points in her life and whether she liked them. Her warmth, honesty and humor shows through in her writing. Her fierce loyalty and dedication to her family is very obvious. I highly recommend this book. Not only is it a fun and interesting read, it also gives us a view of history from the eyes of someone who has had a front-row seat in the theater of recent world events.

Rating: Summary: Interesting, but too detailed and chatty Review: Descibes an interesting era in American politics but focuses on family life, personal matters. The energy and time used in campaining is impressive. The role of Mrs.Bush surely is more important than I imagined before reading her book. Would be glad to interview her if possible.
Rating: Summary: A woman of character!! Review: First of all, this is NOT a biography. Once I digested that, I loved this book and I fell in love with this woman. She is strong, down-to-earth, has her priorities straight, not full of herself, and doesn't have any alterior motives (political or otherwise, unlike some we know) to be a good person and a good first lady. This book provided a perspective on the White House that is interesting, engaging and a joy to read. She is an example to me of a great mother, a great leader and a great human! Thank you Barbara!
